The EVE Litmus Test

Listen to it from start to finish, no breaks. If you still like it at the end, you are ready for a career in EVE Null Sec.

Nothing.
You can't change how people work, and people in EVE are quite a collection of broken toys to behold.

This is why we have never had a good alien game.

EVE is not a game for everyone. Not should it try to be, because being a unique game is what makes it a great game. EVE has a reputation for being a harsh and unforgiving game because that's what it is designed to be. 'Casual' gamers don't understand this concept because they're used to games that hold their hands and give them a clear goal with no permanent consequence for failure. If you fail you try again until you make it. You keep trying the same thing over and over in EVE and you'll be broke before you know it.

What EVE needs is... well actually this recent article by TheMittani brings up some great first steps to improving quality of life for everyone, but newbies especially. Start by implementing these ideas and give the tutorial a well deserved overhaul and go from there.

I read that article, I think a gated newbie zone is a **** idea and the mittani should feel bad...

Care to explain why you think that?

Fanfest 2013. I was chatting to a couple of random nerds, telling them what I was doing in EVE at the time. It's something I still do to a degree. I visit rookie systems each month & gank the miners who mine out all of the ore & leave rookies with nothing, & I chat with new players & tell them things, give them advice & so forth. These nerds became really angry & deduced that I was a part of the reason there was less newbies to pick on in rookie systems.

Goons are terrible people.

People like you are the reason I quit after a week three times. People like you are also the reason why this is by far my favorite game (after sticking it out for a few months).

Once I learned to send a message to the guy who just ganked me and ask for advice, things got a lot better in-game for me.

All of the above is correct.

If EVE wants to avoid the slow decline, it needs to introduce areas for consensual PvP (arenas-battlegrounds-whatever) and clamp down on the griefing/suicide-ganking.

New plays should not be griefed or scammed or ganked in any way, and there should be an area in EVE where it should be COMPLETELY safe for people to play.

Simple as that.

Will it happen? No, because ~reasons~

Whatever. Theirs jobs to lose, not mine. Meh.

EDIT - and why the hell aren't there normal video-tutorials? What is this, the 1990s? Instead of wasting money on flashy intros, get a nice 2-hour long video tutorial on how to actually play the game.

this is the only one I wish to address. *flashes his 10 year vet status*

I think I told you this before, and I am sure others have as well. EvE doesn't need 'pvp arenas' as they already have them.

You want to 1v1? challenge someone to a duel.

you want to 2+v2+ go to ls or find a quite 0.0 system or lord knows take 5 min and find yourself a wormhole.

You could also form a corp that people can join and leave at will to pvp.

What it seems to me you are asking for is a 'if I die doing this I get to keep my stuff' which then makes me ask you... why do you even play eve in the first place exactly?

To the op: eves reputation is its strongest advantage, and one of the reasons I have played this game for so long. Every other game seems lacking. Its like after you met the perfect woman or man, everyone else seems lacking in all aspects, and just just want that person you found.

That's eve. In a sea od bleached blonde idiots, eve is the smart red head across the room.

Upvote for you, sir. And not just because I have always had a thing for redheads.

"Enduring", "restrained" and "ample" as designations for starship components are foreign to the genre of high-tech science fiction and don’t belong in Eve Online. (And as for “scoped” …)

Ban the in game browser, this will solve all the problems CCPgames has atm with it's game and reputation.
It will remove stuff like pron links in fleet, and troll spam links in local. Applause CCPgames, you fixed eve.

On a serious note, If Ambulation was handled properly, we would have had more female gamers, and the "boys" would have had to adapt to 10-15% of eve's subs being female gamers, missed oppurtunity CCP, but nothing new here in the long history of New Eden Cool

Eve online is :

A) mining simulator B) glorified chatroom C) spreadsheets online

D) CCP Games Pay to Win at skill leveling, with instant gratification

"Guilds"?

The people saying the things OP mentioned are too weak to even comprehend the world of EVE online. They are not worthy.

Return ICE back to its former glory so that new players have a infinite resource to draw from.

You Miners think you have it so damn tough.  When I first started playing we didnt even have mining lasers.  You had to fly close to an asteroid.....pop a hatch and gnaw at it with your teeth.   - Bitter Vet

Did you just claim that CCP not dumping more resources on WiS is the reason why more women don't play Eve?

Also, never not fleetpron. Eve wouldn't ever be feature complete without boobies.

What kind of fleets are you in where that doesn't happen? I've never been in a 40+ player fleet without getting pronspammed. You my friend, are missing out on the best part of Eve. Some of that stuff is just gold...granted, some of it requires eyebleach afterward, but that's fairly rare.

i'm in a tiny corp full of very sweet but kind of boring guys and they're p much the only people i've ever been in a fleet with so... also i'm p sure most pornspammers wouldn't cater to my, uh, particular tastes

additionally; freelancer apparently thinks that a lack of dressup mini games is the reason why girls don't want to play with us? that's pretty... :/

I don't think anything needs to be done, our could be done.

You will never stop people from completely misrepresenting or misunderstanding what they have read. Case in point, that ludicrous fictional rendition of the Mittani event.

"Called out the guy by his real name"
"said during the livestream that he wanted the player to actually commit suicide irl, and the big bad leader was marshalling his ingame forces to "make it so"."

LOL!

You can't cure that type of ignorance, not as a game developer, parent, psychiatrist, or anything else. People will hear exactly what they expect to hear.

Which is rather sad, as the true events in the treacherous EVE universe are actually far more imaginative and interesting than the silly horror stories people that have never played the game like to pass around.

Still, enough truth leaks out via actual players (or gaming review sites, or the BBC) that EVE is still thriving after 11 years.

Yes, it's had it's ups and downs... but usually those ups came on the heels of something particularly spectacular and dastardly that has happened, an event that could not possibly happen in any other game.

So no, nothing to do... and nothing need be done. Any attempt to "improve the image of EVE" would likely do far more harm than good.

Never underestimate the power of the internet my friend. There's something for everyone, and dammit, it shall be spammed.

As for the part about WiS...yeah, I'm still waiting on him to explain that one.

it's not so much a complaint about the internet, which has unlimited access to clips of GoT where jon snow is getting beat up, but the fact that eve is apparently made up of dads whose idea of eroticism is like, doing it in missionary position w the light on.

The difference between kinky and erotic is that one involves the whole chicken, the other only the feathers Lol

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
