Update to the Launcher and the repair tool - Fix inside!

My launcher will not actually "launch," and will terminate itself immediately upon launch. I've managed to get EVE running by running the .exe in the bin folder, but I haven't been able to get the launcher to work. I am on a windows 8 machine, and have not had any problem with the client or launcher before now.

In case this problem isn't resolved, is there a way to download and install game updates manually so I won't miss out on Odyssey?

Thanks in advance.

I downloaded the repair.exe and it worked for me, thank you guys !

My launcher is crappy but still I can manage to launch the game so it's no big deal. : )

Win 8. I can now only patch using the long method - thought I'd share that the workaround here works every time, though I do need to do it this way every time.

On opening EVE, everything appears to download / install ok, but EVE will then not open [either ExeFile or launcher]. Repair tool reports a bunch of missing stuff [I will copy / paste at the next patch :P ] and either repairs or not. Download and install launcher patch manually from http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_Launcher_Issues_and_Workarounds. Sometimes I need to use the force refresh the url's. Launcher then launches and takes a while to validate client.

Logged in using launcher with settings apparently lost / reset, so used ExeFile and game on, just like it should be.

Bit arse, but at least it works. What am I missing / do I win £5?

CTRL+SPACE, just in case

How about this:

1. Download the latest repair tool http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe
2. Drop into the client folder
3. Run it

Make sure you don't have any other EVE related processes running in the background.

I tried this, repair tool gave me an error report which said server refused the connection

1. wiped all eve installations and appending user files (and yes, i rebooted! Big smile )
2. downloaded new client
3. installed new client
4. started new client - same as before: Launcher tried updating, hanged himself
5. downloaded and started your repair.exe - no change

- i don't use ESET, instead i have Avira Internet Security installed
- my current router doesn't support SPI
- starting the ExeFile directly works fine

6. started launcher_console.exe - uploaded logfile:
http://eve-files.com/dl/262639

EDIT:
using
http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_1_539169.exe
worked!
THX!

EDIT #2
your launcher update exe does enable your Launcher just fine.
but the original eve desktop shortcut still leads to the eve.exe, which causes the old problem again.
relinking the desktop link to the launcher.exe file solves the problem. maybe you should deliver a new shortcut and recode the eve.exe file so that it accesses the launcher the way you want it to.

This worked for me! (partially)
The launcher works! The part about bypassing the icon on my desktop is something to pay attention to.
My only problem now is the launcher says "OFFLINE MODE no connection could be made to the content server".

I've spent parts of four days now struggling with this, all I can do is laugh.
lol

OH and Eve's online and I'm online posting this, so it's not like my Internet is fouled up.
THIS IS CRAZY. I am not an IT Technician. I'm about ready to give up.

still not working for me, i can't log-in since monday last week.

i cant install the game: error unpacking require a stgring argument of lenght 4

i can't repair: error: unpacking require a string argument of lenght 4

i can't use the launcher stuck at 0.0% validating client

i can't download the payload 1 and 2 of the offline installer, connection time out.

I installed many game this weekend since i can't play eve, everyone of them work, the only game who doesnt work is eve online.

If i havent paid so much time in advance i would be already giving up and play somthing else, but i paid and id like to play.

How many people will leave the game because of this new launcher? i dont know a single person in my corp who like the launcher, everyone of them use the exefile to launch their game. And someone starting in eve and having the same problem as me, not able to play for 2 weeks, they have already given up.

It's not like it's a small problem, 2 weeks, never in my entire likfe i havent been able to play a game for so long because of a bug.

I even reinstalled windows on a new partition and copied the game and same problem, on a fresh windows, without firewall, and pc connected directly to the modem.

If i could download the offline installer at least i could try a fresh install but since i can't i'm stuck waiting and complaining here.

Yea, same here but the hint with the Anti-Vir problem brought the solution for me Smile.

De-activating all realtime scanners and the "browser protection" in my Avira Anti-virus program while downloading / patch fixed all issues with the installers AND updates the launcher, finally.

that has not been, nor should be a problem, if anything its a freaking bandaid on an amputation, CCP< get the F on this.

this should have been fixed with in hours, you are expected to work overtime when things are not working, that is what goes with running companies like this.

SOLVE problems.

any update on this, i did a FRESH install and still nothing works.

NOW i get updating launcher (which i DO NOT want to freaking use damnit) and then nothing, it does literally nothing.

I got my launcher working by running ...CCP\EVE\launcher\cahce\updater.exe

Before that, the launcher just popped up a window saying "Downloadning launcher update" with a progress bar. After the download completed, nothing happened (even if running as an Administrator).

Running the updater.exe installed the update and I was able to run the launcher once again.

Hope this helps someone.

Sad

After this last patch, or the patch before.. forget it.. the launcher gets that "Offline" crap.

Yes, I have ESET, but turned off that option it said to turn off when patching.

NO HELP THERE.

This launcher is screwed. Too many issues, too many times.

Time to rewrite it CCP.

Since Monday/Tuesdays patch i got locked out of the client. Launching the Eve launcher only shows a DOS frame for a few seconds and then nothing. launching the exefile.exe launches the program, then exits to the updater, down loads all but gets hung on downloading/ initializing recipes

The launcher is crap! It does not work and the repair tool fails. I've had to download the manual offline executable and payload files to get into the game at all. If I don't update to the launcher, I can actually log into Eve. But here's the rub. The content server is inaccessable so that means no portraits at all and no in-game browser. The old version of logging in has worked for seven years. Why wouyld anyone be so stupid to fix something that isn't broken. I have been losing hours of game time with every daily game patch because of needing to download everything manually. If I try to use the launcher then I am screwed! This forum shows I am not the only one!

CCP, pull your heads out and fix this now! you have been given plenty of info in this forum and plenty more in petition and support tickets. You are wasting the money we paid for our subscriptions every time we can't log in. What does it take already!?

Update
The following link leads to Facebook where I have written a public note. You may be required to have a Facebook account and must log in to read the entire post. It was too long to post here in this forum.

Inadequate Tech/Customer Support

Here is the solution:
The Eve-Online Content Server is not the same server the game runs on. It is the server that certain content like all the character portraits and the In-Game Browser uses. Guess what? If you are using a Windows OS, You must have Internet Explorer installed and enabled. The Eve-Online Content Server piggybacks on Internet Explorer code to have a functional In-Game Browser. It is not surprising that the infernal "new" game launcher also uses Internet Explorer to a certain degree. Look and be sure that the IE Browser Settings Options that you have your Network Settings set to "NO PROXY."

This is how I fixed the issue without any help from CCP. Some of the inspiration and motivation came from other players in Eve that triggered a path of logic that reminded me that some time ago I disabled and removed IE from my system after the MSN and Bing update hijacked my PC and even to this day has influenced it's presence in my Firefox Browser, as well.
Another curse from Microsoft!
