In this instance, it's because we got into doing it, then, looking at the images side-by-side, realized it didn't add much. All of us were surprised at how little a difference it made.

If we make this happen, it's going to be to check a box, not because it adds much to the look of the game. We have at least one other change coming not too far out that will do a lot more to make EVE look better when running at highest settings.

materials have taken care of a lot, as well as the base mesh revisits.

Could you revert the excessive wear on the Golem, it makes me sad.

Sooo, CCP Darwin, is tessellation still on any Eve Online roadmap ?

.. because those effects WERE dramatic visually.

I feel like this video shows it a little better :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k7oaz8mWug

But yeah, though I don't expect it to be a priority, tessellation on at least the ships in EVE would make for some visually amazing experiences.

I say we need a dirt/wear slider. That would be great.

Monthly in-station car hull wash service. 100 mil per week. If you want it clean all the time, 400 mil/ month.

They said it'll happen this year...

I don't know if you shohld trust yourself.

Honestly, how can you trust yourself if you release minmatar space nebulae as is, (as example)
believing it's okay,
while it's actually crap?

I'm sorry, but I seriously doubt that it doesn't make a difference,
simply because I doubt you have a subjective eye for it.

Maybe you should get crappy screens for better judgement ...

I'd prefer constellation level skyboxes first please.
Then feel free to go high res on everything. It needs to look good on a huge 4k monitor.

Having spent many years making skins and texture packs for various games I have discovered hi-res textures do two key things:

  • hi res means you can be "lazier" in your skin design and it still looks good, low res skins are more work
  • the huge difference is where you are are adding art work to the skins. Nose art for example benefits hugely from higher res textures

  • However generally speaking good skin design will offset the need for higher res textures a lot.

Do want. I didn't spend the GDP of a small country on my gaming rig to not have the best textures.

With respect to the environments, we were aware of the limitations of what we were releasing, and trust me, we did see the issues that you've pointed out. The image compression artifacts that are particularly visible in a certain regions of space are a technical limitation that requires further work, but our judgment was that the additional feeling of depth that having nebulas occlude stars provided was of greater value.

As I mentioned in the other thread on that matter, we're still discussing how to address that particular technical limitation.

For those keeping score, this comment of mine referred to the new Temporal Anti-aliasing feature that is now enabled when you choose the highest anti-aliasing choice in the graphics settings. If you have a modern, high-end graphics card and haven't chosen that setting, I suggest giving it a try.

I would, but I'm on a Mac... And not getting to enjoy any of the new shield effects, either. Cry
