CCP has stated they have hi res textures for almost all assets that are 4 times the detail level compared to what is in the game now. They have said all we need to do so prove to them that we want them and we will get it.

For those of you worried about your graphics cards melting, this would be a completely optional extra download just for those who want to make their Eve look the best it can.

So if you want an optional extra hi res download pack, voice your support here!

Lets see if we can make us a high resolution threadnaught!!!!

I'm not entirely convinced and your post is rather vague.

Could you rephrase that somehow ??

so this was just another of ur ****** up jokes like walking in station huh ccp?

plllleeeeeaaaasseeeee!!!!!

it cant be this hard, or expensive to host (if I remember right, 4xtimes as much data as the actuall textures take?) well.... thats not really much.....

please get ur heads out ur ass and just recognize, there allready are people out there wich love their 4k screens....

just because some are fine with 32 bit grafics for the next tweleventy years, it doesnt mean that time has stopped...
even if ur updating and updating shaders and stuff, those actuall used textures even bored me on my old TV ( wich had "only" FullHD) well now imagine how those muddy cubes (its not even pixels its cubes at many points xD) feel if ur watching at 3x2560x1080....

I love our new sunrays n stuff..... but we NEED proper textures!
Id even pay a plex for it, but dont ******* hold it back if its allready "finished" as your own employes stated at fanfest....

IdeaIdeaIdeaIdea

(graphic-whores unite! shiny swag bling bling!..... to them haters.... of course Im talking bout optional, who wishes, can for sure keep sitting with XP and DX9 till the end of the world xD)

well I just found this here:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=5411090

srry to say, cuz I didnt yet mess with eve file structure atall, but the entire thing sounds to me like a really really cheap excuse, In the company I work for, if there would be this discussion, our boss would drive us till hell, until we finish the code our customers are asking for^^

as I came here, it wasnt my plan to show my high-level-assholery-skills, but I just dont believe this, there are milllion times more complicated codes wich managed to leave the textures in hexa-vars instead of killing ur servers with the payload while the only one having to stream those files, are the machines the clients are running on while those files actually are gonna be stored on OUR physical drives, so can u leave it to the users to decide if they are willing to take some perfomancedrops (still its only client side!!!! Its not like this would spawn TiDi lolol, that s all your buisnes xD) or not ? that´d be great!
....Im not really sure what the heck Darwin wants to say in the thread???? but maybe Im not the onlyone, that could be the reason why the thread is indefinitely closed^^

To be quite honest, I don't care about high resolution texture packs very much- I just like to bump age-old redundant threads once in a while.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I'll refer you to an earlier post in this very thread.

The problem with delivering higher resolution textures is that the value isn't there. We can double our texture resolution and it just won't improve the look of the game that much.

As I stated in the linked post, games like shooters or over-the-shoulder MMOs have a very well-defined range of scales for viewing objects that allow them to get a lot of improvement from high-res texture packs.

EVE's scale ranges from objects as small as a person to objects twice the size of Manhattan Island, and no bitmapped texture-map will ever be large enough to look good at all those scales.

What we are doing is working on improving the textures for ships and other assets as we touch them for graphic redesigns or other work, so that they look better at the size of the screen. Since this work has to be done asset-by-asset, it takes time.

To be clear, delivering higher-res textures to the client isn't off the table, but the work to do it competes with a lot of other graphics work that often winds up considered higher priority.

What about just delivering the higher-resolution nebula maps as mentioned back in March?

So youre saying it isnt off the table per-se, but more like moved onto another smaller table, in the corner, and it is possibly hanging off the edge precariously above a small trash can, much like that report i was supposed to do last month that I am pretty sure no one reads anyways.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

CCP EvilDev patchnotes:
- low res textures fixed by limiting how far players can zoom in

:)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

If you guys haven't seen the last image from EVE Online Now, it shows a procedural generation-type series of objects, etc. for the new citadels - this thread isn't something theyr'e actively working on, but things they're doing now could definitely lead to the quality improving and things becoming a pretty reality P

Dev's - is tessellation still a thing ?

The tessellation demo's that were shown of the prelim work (tech demo) done with nVidia combined with high(er) res textures would certainly be amazing.

FFS. Why do u guys consistantly announce stuff (during a keynote noless) and then 6 months later say ... 'Oh wait.. yeah this is not going to happen now..or its going to take a longer cause we have other priorities...(which is a polite way of saying its now never going to happen).

Have you looked at the online player graphs lately... continue to pull this crap year after year and you will have no one playing the game we all love.

Its simple...
1.work out your roadmap..
2. decide on features that are definetly going to be in the game and then announce only those.
3. Keep your word and deliver what you promised.

If your not dont know if your going to implement it. DONT ANNOUCE IT DURING A KEYNOTE !

and while Im having a rant...
how about not releasing graphics updates that basicly do nothing.

eg - new UI.. looks basicly the same as the old UI but with different icons.
If you have funding for a new UI then actually do a new UI.. Use the beta program you have to give people a couple of options. Eve has pretty good graphics, why not give us a UI option that doesnt hide it all behind stacks of spreadsheets and icons.. eg its perfectly possible to use the overview only.. should be possible to hide all the targeting and bracket/icon stuff that obscures all the nice graphics and makes eve look like a 2001 game.

eg - new Kill Cam.. You made the new kill cam.. why not give us a picture in picture so we can actually use it.. cause noone has time to use the lookat toggle during PVP or even PVE.

I dont like the new star map but alteast you tried something new and made it a beta. It has promise but again.. seems to have been abandoned in a WIP state.. But you should have people working on it that actually do scanning/ hunting /exploring in game.

@CCP Darwin this is not directed at you personally. Its directed at the people who are making these poor decisions on Eves graphics year after year. Its like they have never even played the game..
