Log on camps Illegal or not?

Honestly, I think they should be...have a scout waiting with 9 people offline ready to log in and insta undock? there is no real counter for this, you can't see them on local so all you can do is suddenly get ganked hard.

A good player would be able to see local and notice a spike, but you window is so short because everybody almost instantly undocks after being in a totally invisible state

As far as i know its not counted as an exploit. I dident really look but this is the first official response i could find regarding log on traps;

Not an exploit at all, and never has been. We won’t punish people for logging out of and into the game (even if they happen to log in all at about the same time and location that happens to be inconvenient for you).

yeah, I can see how a single instance or coincidence like having a ferw corp members log on to help a buddy in need, But I mean in this case, a coordinated group that in mass logs on and immediately undocks.



And wow, I'm surprised by that. It's really one of the lamest tactics I can think of. I'm in the opinion that when you are in game setting a trap it's fair, but sitting logged off is just a cheap way to be invisible and not have to use a cloak.

not illegal or an exploit. how ever...

joining a corp to get a surprise gank of war targets is.. IE

targets are fighting out side the station. you join and 20 others the corp deccing or defending corp and undock to kill the war targets I am sure is a exploit.

I don't like loginski/logoutski crap much either. I don't think logging in or out should be part of the game or giving a game advantage - in this case, practically being in system when you're not. But putting a lot of restrictions on logging in and out is draconian. People need to be able to choose (mostly) when they log in and out.

I was happy the 'log out under gatecloak' crap was fixed with the new crimewatch, though.

yeah, but that's your corp being coordinated and people being available to undock. A small group all undocking at the same moment, away from their corps base parked in another corps home station with no war dec is another matter

yeah I agree Logging In and out should not be part of the game. people do it all the time in flight sim to avoid being shot down, and it is considered a banable offense from 90% of the servers I've played in. I think there should at least be some sort of timer or what not, or at least an enforcement of this issue...it's pretty easy to spot one when most of the people on a kill logged in at the same time just before the kill

Think of it this way.

If you are tackled and you can't kill an enemy or escape... Them logging in isn't any different from them jumping in from another system to kill you.

You end up dying in the end.


If you know somebody does log off traps frequently, just have your own friends jump into the system and ambush them when they all inevitably land 5km away from the bait ship (Once they log in, they can't cancel their warp and they arrive at the same spot they logged off.)

That is some very valuable information that you can use against them.

If you actually thought about outsmarting them, rather than asking CCP to win the game for you... This thread wouldn't exist.



Edit: One (Hi-sec) tactic you can use against this is to run locator agents on their known corpmates.. If there is a juicy bait ship in a system and half of their PvP pilots are logged off in the same system.. You can expect something.. And hopefully learn something from my advice and set up a counter attack.

as far i know it isn't a exploit , but on the other hand it is lame and cheap and not very EVE like
setting up traps , ganking etc etc i have no problems with but using the log in trap and using .abusing a mechanic that wasn't even intented for that for catching freighters , it is debatable , but i tend to the side that it is should be a exploit

Nope, as long as there is a session change it is not an exploit. Docking and undocking is a session change.

Well flip it around. Say a fleet has one scout and 9 people. Those nine aren't offline but rather a few light years away sitting on a Titan waiting to hotdrop someone. They're not in local and all you can do is "suddenly get ganked hard".

Is that any different than having one scout online and 9 people offline?

By your own words and logic, a good player would be able to see local and notice a spike after being in a totally invisible state (regardless if it's players logging on or players getting bridged in by a Titan)

The mechanics are different sure, but the situation and end results are pretty much the same thing.
