For the love of god not another one of these threads.

Look.. SC and Eve are 2 different games, the only thing they share is that they are set in space and have space ships.

Also SC is not due out until the 1st quarter of 2015 at the absolute earliest, so its a tad early yet to start pitching the 2 against each other.

However saying all of this, yes SC will most like take some people away from Eve. Mainly those who only live in HS and enjoy PvE and Indy and hate PvP with a passion.

Now some people will say good, I hope it does make some carebears leave Eve.. well those people are idiots as every person who leaves means less money for CCP.

Anyway if you look here - http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Anticipated_release_schedule - you will see that there is a long wait until we can actually really see how the game is going to progress.

And we will be living on the moon long before that (it can happen!) but yea, I don't see SC and Eve competing. For those diehard gungho spaceship pilots... they will be playing both.

For those that can only afford to play 1 game a month... well... pay for SC and plex in Eve I guess.

Star Citizen? You must be mistaken, I think that's just an online shop for virtual space ships with a forum for EVE dropouts.

Hi. You do realize that Chris Roberts has a much better overall track record at delivering promises than CCP, right? I mean, CCP has got their **** together lately, but no WiS after 5 years (or more)?

SC is going to steal a lot of subs, mine included, unless CCP fixes A LOT of broken stuff and delivers content outside of the cockpit.

The people I play EVE with and I will be moving over to SC, and not looking back. SC all ready has a huge community. It has ships, space stations, and places where our avatars will be able to go - including boarding other players ships and taking their cargo. SC will have better physics engine. Customizable star ships - and not just paint. SC will have everything EVE has and more. Star Citizen is the game I have waited almost a decade for and we're finally going to get it.

Hi. I can't recall Chris Roberts doing much since Freelancer (that came out 2003), so his track record is sorely out of of date as is his relevance in the games industry.

Also, can I have your stuff.

You're of course going to come back and tell us how sad you are that the game doesn't work the way you thought it would, because you got your hopes up lol.

Good luck to you and your friends, you will not be missed. And by that I mean "no one in EVE will miss you" AND "I won't miss you when I shoot your ship in SC". You'll know it's me, I'll have a picture of a Machariel painted to the side of my Fighter.

I, for one, am very excited about Star Citizen. I posted my thoughts in another thread, basically EvE and SC are apples and oranges, and someone rebutted with , "but they will have markets and exploration and all these other things that EvE already has too so they are comparable"

No, they are not. You're not going to tell me a twitch cockpit fighter sim and an rpg-style target and activate ability / submarines in space are comparable entities, regardless of how elements of their physical universe are similar. Wing Commander / Freelancer aren't alot of people's cup of tea.

Now someone said Star Citizens is making alot of promises, and it remains seen if they will be delivered. This is very important to keep in mind, but I believe Chris Roberts can pull it off. I especially have confidence the Squadron 42/ Star Citizen elements can be tied together flawlessly, much like a single player Homeworld story campaign before going multiplayer online. I think the game can give something to everyone. But it's too early to start praising or condemning the game.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

Doesn't matter. If 10,000 goes and stays in SC, it's a chunk out of HUMANS that play EvE.

See, in the numbers game if you have 9 million and 1.7 million leave, it's "so what?".

EvE has but 500k, and many have multiple accounts. So when HUMANS leave, that's more than just one "player" gone.

Yeah, SC, has a potential to hurt a niche game hard, even if a couple thousand HUMANS leave to play it full time.

Then the whales will have even less to gank, and be much like that MuD I used to play that was just as "mean, harsh, tough" that scared away potential players and begging for folks to play now.

Communities make or break games. And forums are the public face of them. Idea

You're the one constantly telling us that people play multiple MMOs, why should it be any different for Star Citizen, I'm sure many Eve players will play it as well as Eve. I count myself among the number that will play both, CCP won't lose my current account, my alt account was unsubbed with Incarna and won't be renewed until WiS is more than 4 $10 hotel rooms.

What's with the whales? the only whale related items I can think of in Eve are both industrial ships.

So you're saying you think EVe will die if fewer people play it. That presupposes that people won't play both games and never come back to EVE. That's just not what has happened in EVE history, people are playing all sorts of games (minecraft, STO, Tanks etc etc) and coming back because EVE is unique in a way people can't even quantify.

I sense a feeling of fear in your replies and i'm telling you, it's unfounded, time and time again EVe has survived new games with even fewer players than it has today. It will most likely do so again...and again....and again.

The problem I have with you "EVE is dying" people is that you never come back and say "I was wrong, "X" game didn't kill EVE". It's like you can't be honest about the situation.

New games got one shot. If that shot is right, and has aspects that is more pleasing than "the only space sim MMO" has, yeah it can hurt EvE.

You can see by how fast and furious Blizzard incorporated the better/best features of it's rivals in WoW. To cut them at the pass.

Because who they're marketing for. The very PvPers EvE depends on. Want to be a "capsuleer" or Buck Rogers? Do you need to an explanation what sells for the average PvPer even in EvE?

And since EvE is a whales game and SC has buy in packages, guess who may go and stay...with their money?

Money doesn't grow on trees even for whales. They'll have to pick which game has what they like to play more.

And all the public mockery and such doesn't matter to try to get them to stay (or others to leave), because those with such money aren't 15 year-olds that need peer support. Blink

I was one of the naysayers when Incarna came out. Go ahead and leave I said.

Then they almost went bankrupt, admitted it, and apologized.

So it doesn't really matter what the players posting on the forums thinks, it matters what CCP has already verified.

Tha'ts not at all true. STO had a shaky start like a lot of mmos. It's still going and stronger than Ever. And why do you have "the only space sim MMO" in quotes. other space sim mmos exist, I just mentioned one lol.

How do you account for the past space sim MMOs and other similar games (like Darkfall and Perpetuum Online etc etc) that were supposed to kill EVE and didn't. EVe growth only ever slacked off when CCP screwed up, that deminstrates that EVE online is pretty historically resistant to outside influence.

Pointing out the flaws in your logic is like a full time job. I'm one of those people who would rather be Commander Adama or some other captain than Buck Rogers. Yet I don't make the mistake that people are like me. YOU may like being buck rogers more, but historically, people like EVE for lots of reasons. There is no palpable , provable reason why CCP needs to do anything drastically different other than finish World of Darkness for an addition revenue stream.

See you do it all the time. you convince yourself of something you have no proof of (ie that EVE is about "whales"), then lean on an unsupported idea to convince yourself of even more unsupported Ideas.

I know you can't make an illogical person embrace logic, but i still suggest you look for actually empircal data THEN form opinions about things. Becase as it is now, you're just always terminally wrong and that doesn't hurt anyone but you.

Will Eve die if fewer players are playing, perhaps not, but then CCP would have less money to re-invest, those who are left get angrier and angrier because less updates are happening and leave and you then have a snowball effect.

Incarna is a great example of what can happen if enough players leave / cancel there subs.. i.e a significant number of employees are laid off..

As for those who did cancel their subs, its not like we are talking 10,000's of players here, it was only a few thousand.

If Star Citizen delivers, the people who move over are those most affected by avatar gameplay. It doesn't mean EVE is bad. Just that EVE is ship-perspective and SC is person-perspective. It's just flavor.

That sounds great, until you realize you're an old, lazy fat guy with **** poor coordination and reflexes to match...

Still going to give it a try though.
