I'm sure CCP will maybe possibly give some thought to how to compete with Star Citizen when SC is more than vaporware that sells $1200 ships to players.

Hi. You do realize that Chris Roberts has a much better overall track record at delivering promises than CCP, right? I mean, CCP has got their **** together lately, but no WiS after 5 years (or more)?

SC is going to steal a lot of subs, mine included, unless CCP fixes A LOT of broken stuff and delivers content outside of the cockpit.

When star trek came out eveyone fretted over the decimation of the eve population as all us "trekkies" would fly to the new game leaving the last 4 players on eve.

Reality....

A few folks went and tried it.
They returned.
Announced "ST sucks, stick with eve."
The rest of us never missed a step.

If Star Trek can't pull us from EVE as it has the largest worldwide commercial name then i think EVE Online is perfectly safe. Hell, eve star wars didn't make a dent in this puppy. If anything what is occuring is that eve players try the other games and tell them if they want to play a real space game to come try eve.

There is your reality check.

The fact that such a thing is even possible speaks volumes to the excitement surrounding the game and confidence in SC and Roberts.

For it start it's been stated many times Star Citizen isn't an MMO by Chris Roberts.

So i dont really know how you can compare?

Well, that is why EvE has 500k players. Idea

Blizzard is out there studying the competition, and before they're even released their games, developed counters.

So if CCP isn't already in SC studying it for counters, well, the early bird gets the worm.

It's a very competitive market.

So it is true that space games are uncommon and if that was all Eve offered I think I'd be worried. What no other game has that Eve offers is an environment devoted to making folks misbehave. No other game offers the opportunity (offer, heck, begs you to!) for players to mess with other players at almost ever level. Griefing and scamming on massive levels, meta gaming in massive ways, Eve is the place to shoot strangers in their face, to kick over their sand castles just for the fun of it and to release your inner sociopath. This has been part of Eve's DNA from the beginning. I'm not even sure this could have been possible to the degree in Eve without the guidance of a team with viking warrior sensibilities.

No other company has bet the bank on dark and evil ass hattery like CCP has with Eve. I don't think any other company ever would. That bet probably means Eve will never grow much bigger than it has, and since a lot of folks in Eve are driven away in time by that darkness could even shrink Eve should other space games get to market. But I expect there are always going to be about this subscription level numbers of players that stay because of that nurturing the worst behavior in us all.

Ooooh, we finally have this fresh new thread about SC killing EvE, so we can read some totally new arguments about it.

Also, SC is as MMORPG as Minecraft.

CCP should make a standard "this game will kill EVE" form that we can print out and snail mail to everyone everytime they talk about something killing EVE. It will then be easier to keep track of all the games that are supposed to kill EVE.

Still waiting for Star Trek Online and however many Star Wars MMOs there have been to kill EVE. They just didn't understand that, like a Zombie, you have to shoot EVE in the head to kill it, body shots just **** it off.

And always, always double tap.

CCP is great, amazing, spectacular at delivering speeches, video's telling everybody how great things are going to be yet the end product is a let down.

Once again, when was the last truly innovative and mind blowing expansion CCP released?

Ship rebalancing and mechanic tweets should be a constant, not limited to expansion packs.

After 2 years we are still waiting for the abomination that is Sov Warfare, something which 10000's of players have complained about time and time again to be looked into and so far zilch,. nothing, nada.

Pos..after god knows how many years have people been complaining about them and still nothing.

Drone mechanics, again years have gone by and nothing.

As for Dust, well CCP have done an amazing job of promising an unique console FPS game which will tie into the Eve universe and what do we have...

A **** poor FPS with a awful control system, terrible graphics, no player market, huge mismatches in weaponry and virtual no interaction with Eve

Even though its a space simulator, i dont have much with spaceships at all. If i read that the concept of missions in SC is allready so boxed in that you cant really deal or recieve losses the whole concept of ownership becomes irrelevant to me.

Correct me if im wrong but 'yay another game that lets you respawn when you die and not take losses'. Maybe a different pilot name if your pilot dies, but thats all the concequences i've seen.

I have removed some rule breaking posts and the ones quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The rules:
2. Be respectful toward others at all times.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

3. Ranting is prohibited.

A rant is a post that is often filled with angry and counterproductive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and is helpful in development of the game and community. Rants are disruptive, and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise and clear manner while avoiding going off on rambling tangents.

4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

7. Use of profanity is prohibited.

The use of profanity is prohibited on the EVE Online forums. This includes the partial masking of letters using numbers or alternate symbols, and any attempts at bypassing the profanity filter.

22. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.

Doesn't matter. If 10,000 goes and stays in SC, it's a chunk out of HUMANS that play EvE.

See, in the numbers game if you have 9 million and 1.7 million leave, it's "so what?".

EvE has but 500k, and many have multiple accounts. So when HUMANS leave, that's more than just one "player" gone.

Yeah, SC, has a potential to hurt a niche game hard, even if a couple thousand HUMANS leave to play it full time.

Then the whales will have even less to gank, and be much like that MuD I used to play that was just as "mean, harsh, tough" that scared away potential players and begging for folks to play now.

Communities make or break games. And forums are the public face of them. Idea

You're the one constantly telling us that people play multiple MMOs, why should it be any different for Star Citizen, I'm sure many Eve players will play it as well as Eve. I count myself among the number that will play both, CCP won't lose my current account, my alt account was unsubbed with Incarna and won't be renewed until WiS is more than 4 $10 hotel rooms.

What's with the whales? the only whale related items I can think of in Eve are both industrial ships.

Motel rooms. Not hotel rooms. Hotels have room service and motels do not. We don't get room serveice. Hence, motels.

Motels is an Americanism, we rarely use the term "motel" in the UK, room service or not it's generally called a hotel here.
