Star Citizen v EVE

I wonder how is EVE preparing to face the might of Chris Roberts' new MMO. I am a devoted "casual" EVE player and so far I managed to convince 1 player -my cousin- to join me in EVE, but lately we are having conversations about Star Citizen, and I am afraid I am going to loose my only wingman in space.
EVE has a decade of Lore and stories that players have written. EVE can hold massive battles in one single server. EVE is brutal, unforgiving. EVE is EVE.
But because most of us are familiar with Robert's Space Industries and games (freelancer, Wing Commander) , I wonder what is CCP's plan to counteract the loss of subscriptions to an MMO that promises (and surely deliver) a more personal and immersive space flying experience? The universe size will not be as big at launch, but in time, just like CCP did when player's are handed the tools to shape the universe, it will expand massively, and probably match most of he expectations of many scy-fi players.
I thought Incarna was a cool step to attract skeptical players and make the experience more personal. Why didn't The Mittani and henchmen expressed their negative opinions at the previous fanfest , when the Incarna facts were unveiled, instead of burning Jita and leave a fair chuck of designers and Devs unemployed. I could not wait for Incarna to be online. Alas, tradition proved more resilient than change. And Incarna will never come back....unless.... Star Citizen proves that it can be done.
Now I understand the prejudice against "spacebarbie" gameplay. But just like with everything in EVE, if you don't like it, you don't have to do it. (I am against the gtfo stance of most)
I still think that Dust 514is destined to fail. It won't do any favours to EVE. There's a game called Titan Fall, that is so reminiscent of Dust. And better imo.
I am a casual player, I see EVE from outside the box. My opinions are just the way I feel at the moment, and at the moment I see EVE going for another decade but significantly less strong after SC is launched.

Eve has had it easy the past ten years with relatively little competition. Once it faces a competitor then hopefully it will give CCP a kick to get their act together.

Don't get me wrong I think CCP is on the right track now, but I also think it has become complacent somewhat due to the success it has had over the ten years. MMORPG's are fragile, and If they don't reinvest properly into the game then it could easily decline when a new competitor comes along.

I feel as though if they actually spent the money which Eve players bankroll role CCP with back onto Eve instead of all these side projects then we would be in a lot better position right now. That is just my feeling though.

Back when I played EnB it was Eve that was going to kill it Lol

Looking at the star citizins site already dont want to play that game

100 systems, whoeieeeee , dont want manualy drive my ship also and etc etc etc

Eve will be safe

Note that I didn't say the EVE was going to get Killed. That's not happening for many years if ever. ...a dwindling player base on the other hand...
And regarding delivering promises...we're talking Chris Roberts, a passionate guy with loads of backing from a big fanbase over the years that precede CCP!

I'm sure there's a couple of wingmen among the several thousand people logged in each given time. Finding one that really suits you can be some interesting game of its own.
Personally I wouldn't care about less players. For me the game was as much fun when the PCU was about 20k.
Better have a good core of players that are mentally grown up and have the fitting mindset than have masses of silly ones that think the sandbox should be changed to work in their favor.

If Star Citizen delivers, the people who move over are those most affected by avatar gameplay. Personally I've always wanted to be able to control my own ship, swoop around my enemies the way I want to instead of clicking an orbit/approach/keep at range button etc. So if SC pulls it off, I'll probably put EVE on the shelf.

It doesn't mean EVE is bad. Just that EVE is ship-perspective and SC is person-perspective. It's just flavor.

Yes but that competitor won't be Star Citizen. It's apples and oranges.

Ooooh, we finally have this fresh new thread about SC killing EvE, so we can read some totally new arguments about it.


Also, SC is as MMORPG as Minecraft.

For the love of god not another one of these threads.

Look.. SC and Eve are 2 different games, the only thing they share is that they are set in space and have space ships.

Also SC is not due out until the 1st quarter of 2015 at the absolute earliest, so its a tad early yet to start pitching the 2 against each other.

However saying all of this, yes SC will most like take some people away from Eve. Mainly those who only live in HS and enjoy PvE and Indy and hate PvP with a passion.

Now some people will say good, I hope it does make some carebears leave Eve.. well those people are idiots as every person who leaves means less money for CCP.

Anyway if you look here - http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Anticipated_release_schedule - you will see that there is a long wait until we can actually really see how the game is going to progress.

CCP should make a standard "this game will kill EVE" form that we can print out and snail mail to everyone everytime they talk about something killing EVE. It will then be easier to keep track of all the games that are supposed to kill EVE.

Still waiting for Star Trek Online and however many Star Wars MMOs there have been to kill EVE. They just didn't understand that, like a Zombie, you have to shoot EVE in the head to kill it, body shots just **** it off.

My bet is about both having a nice and growing players subs, while similar at first look they will be totally different.

I'll be testing it for sure and will not expect it to be with the size or content possibilities of Eve, one has 10 years experience and development the other is not even out yet but I predict a nice success for this new title over time.

At the beginning Eve players didn't had as many systems, as much high sec, pve content, ships, modules, starbase modules, outposts, industrial ships etc etc, everything was added overtime and so will Star Citizen.

I wish him good luck with this new game and to send me a tester beta key, I definitively want to test it out.

I see some just like to dismiss any new space game, because EVE is so "niche" and nothing can touch it. I hope that's not the same attitude CCP have towards EVE. I don't think because some of you are sure SC cannot make a dent on EVE, it will always be safe in it's niche. Or will it?

Can't see it being a direct choice between Star Citizen and EVE. If you can play EVE then I don't see the attraction of Star Citizen which just looks like an online version of WC4 with cartoony graphics and twitch dependent gameplay. EVE has a depth to it developed over a decade that will kill at birth most of the competition.

That said though, props to Chris Roberts for trying to break the mould of games design with his market funded development policy. I do feel that he, together with his background in space games, identified the market niche least populated in order to maximise his chances of success. I hope he's successful so that more developers adopt this method of taking on the EAs, Sonys and Blizzards of this world. I just don't believe that Star Citizen will affect the playerbase of EVE one iota in the long run.
