Apparently you can't do the NPE on non-new accounts?

Which is pretty dumb- I just subscribed, so I miss out on the NPE?

Same thing for me, I'd like to try the new tutorial. Is there any way to activate it?

Ok, I ran through the NPE.

1. Empire descriptions sound like they were written by a Gallante. Amarr perform "acts of unspeakable for their god." No Amarr would say that. Empire descriptions should sound like they are a recruiting quote. If we are going for objective, then the Gallante need a negative in their description. Because the other races all had something negative said about them EXCEPT the Gallante. Since the Gallante are supposed to be a true democracy (not a representative democracy) then a good negative would be, "but the voices of minorities are often unheard by the overwhelming majority" or some such.

2. Intro video didn't play when I created new account to play the NPE.

3. The moving blue selection window should never cover the hud, the select target window, or any other window for that matter. Moving the view around to get the blue window out of the way was a constant source of annoyance.

4. Caldari should probably receive a shield booster not an armor booster, or Aura's comment should be modified. She says to use the module when you "take damage". But any newbie could be easily confused when they see red and hit the armor repper, and see no change since the armor rep does nothing until armor takes damage, Aura should explain the whole shields/armor/structure thing, and suggest turning on the armor rep when armor damage is taken instead. If you don't switch to a shield boost.

5. There needs to be an easy and OBVIOUS way for newbies to replay or reset a previous stage. Rookie help is full of people asking questions that were answered, very quickly, by Aura. They need a way to replay stuff if they didn't hear it all or hear it well. Remember that people are probably distracted and confused so they won't necessarily comprehend everything no matter how simple it may seem. Also, they need a way to replay stuff because the tutorial got stuck for many people. One example of the tutorial getting stuck, I helped a newbie that was stuck at "Recruit please respond." The Commander just stopped speaking and wouldn't continue. I gave a lot of the usual help advice, before making a minmatar and doing the tutorial to see that it worked fine for me. The portrait menu should be clickable so that the newbie "can respond" in an intuitive way if the playback doesn't continue. This poor dude was stuck for over an hour at a point that should have progressed automatically.

6. One very common rookie question was, "where is my injector?" They all could find the cargo hold but they couldn't find the main menu because it didn't occur to many people that the E at the top was a clickable object. Aura should not just SAY were stuff is. There should be a picture description, or at least the blue annoying box should walk the newbie through it.

7. Stupid pop-up radial menu needs to be looked at. In the process of trying to move the helpful-but-annoying-moving-except-when-it-covered-something-important blue window out of my way, I was constantly clicking in space and sometimes activating the radial menu accidentally. Anyone who spends lots of time online knows that many pop-ups are deactivated by clicking in an empty space of the window. Which is what I did. Somehow this changed my default orbit distance to 100km. Radial menu should ignore clicks outside the menu radius. I can totally see any newbie having this same problem and not having a clue how to fix it, maybe not even realizing why they can't hit anything, because they are 100k out.

8. Another point where the tutorial froze was when trying to use the blueprint. The production window would open, but the bottom of the window wouldn't populate. It took 4 attempts to get this to work.

9. After collecting the scientists and others, they were never removed from my cargo. They should been removed on arrival at station.

10. Maybe have an auto-repeat function. If someone is in the tutorial seems active, but is not progressing, automatically have aura or the commander repeat their last instruction after 5 minutes of no progress. This would also give the tutorial a chance to reset if the tutorial itself broke.

11. Most MMOs the flavor text of quests is pretty much irrelevant. Newbies are clicking through the flavor text and wondering why their ship is being blown up. Maybe use red-blinky text for this part to get newbies used to the fact that flavor text is actually important to read.

12. Why can't mission description text be increased in size yet? This game is over 10 years old. Every time monitors increase in resolution the text gets smaller. Eve is still designed for 480x680 but most of us are playing at much higher resolution. Please let people adjust the size of mission description text the same way we can increase/decrease chat text. Newbies aren't reading the fine print.

13. Why is exploration career giving out a logistics frigate in 2 of 5?

14. Rookie system belts are mined out pretty fast. Any tutorial missions should go to missions space to mine.

15. Since the tutorial has newbies fly to neighboring systems, those systems should be added to the protected list.

16. It's all very nice having people use their info panel to dock, warp, etc, but shouldn't Aura be teaching people how to do these things with the overview?

Ok, just went through it again as an Amarr. And some of the problem I had as caldari didn't happen. I had other problems.

1. This time Aura properly showed how to retrieve the redeemable items, but my Caldari did not get instructed. She didn't tell me to activate my armor rep when I took damage, unlike my caldari who was.

2. When I was trying to warp to the final encounter, the spatial rift kept sending me to the gate in the next system. Then aura set destination sent me one system over. Then I warped to the spatial rift, and repeated this 4 times before finally arriving at the hive.

3. Unknown sequence and Scientist and other survivors still in cargo.

4. The Operations Info Panel does have a reset button, it is the ?. The ? should be red and not transparent so people see it. It's no good if It's practically invisible on a light background with a lot of bloom. I only noticed it the second playthrough because I was specifically fiddling with everything as a tester who already knew the interface.

Thought I'd provide some positive feedback after my earlier list of problems with the NPE:

1) Great that newbros get taught about hacking.

2) Great that they get involved in a fleet battle and are tasked with taking out the smaller ships and tackling the big one.

3) Ship loss and pod death covered. New people need to know these events are common, and loss is permanent.

4) Loving that corvettes now come with an afterburner as well as a mining laser and weapon.

5) Pop-up tool tips are a very good thing.

6) Using the redeem feature and moving items between different inventory locations is good.

7) Seeker death animations and explosions are fantastic.

8) Introduction to manufacturing is good.

The NPE still needs a lot of work but it's far superior to any previous version.

This is good stuff. Pop ups are hella useful and the lack of walls of text make things much easier. Couple of things ive noticed so far,

- My minmatar alpha was given a tristan skin... :(
- i have my station services window on the left of my hud, when aura tells me to undock and a pop up appears pointing to the undock button, the text covers the button so that it cannot be pressed.

EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

Hey all,

I have read all of the comments in this thread so far, and more than a few seem to come from Veteran players, so I thought I would add a noob's ten cents worth...

About a year ago I bought a new high spec PC specifically for Elite: Dangerous, but that is a game I have hardly touched (different story for a different thread).

However, at about that time I had read several stories in the UK mainstream media about a game called EvE, with massive space battles involving thousands of players, which cost certain characters not insignificant amounts of money. I also discovered James315 and his cohorts (whom I find hilarious and just), the Mittani (WTF?), EvEnews24 and all sorts of other goodies that have evolved outside of the game.

Now being a bit of a contrarian, I thought "I quite fancy blowing up some big boys' toys" whilst playing a game which is set in a true sandbox.

So in 2015 (I think) I signed up for the EvE two week trial and I found the tutorials atrocious. Basically it seemed I was instructed on simple ship control, how to aim a gun, how to talk to an NPC agent and then, young pilot, you can now bugger off and annoy someone else. I had next to no idea how to pilot a ship, how to equip it (I believe "fit" is the correct term) or what to do with the bloody thing if I did manage to fly it more than a few AUs from where I started.

Maybe a day later I was recruited by Pandemic Horde, I somehow managed (like a chicken through a field of foxes) to get to their base in nullsec/lowsec/whereversec and then the base seemed to get blown up. I really have no idea what happened, one minute I was given a shed load of skill books/blueprints/ships (with absolutely no idea what to do with them) and then the next minute everything went red and I was dead.

That was the end of my first trip to New Eden.

Since then my high spec PC has spent 99% of it's time playing OOTP Baseball and the Dodgers have won the World Series four out of five attempts. Some of you will think this is righteous and some will have already marked me for DEATH in EvE!

Fast forward to a couple of days ago. I was perusing PC Gamer online because work was quiet, and there was an article on the new F2P release of EvE. So I thought I would have another crack at it, because the idea still appeals to me, and minerbumping.com still makes me laugh - sometimes out loud...

I fired up EvE again on my PC, spent half an hour messing about because the launcher had changed, and created a new character - the man who is addressing you all now.

Finally, we get to the New Player Experience, the holy grail upon which this thread was built.

I F*****G LOVED IT!

The old EvE noob experience felt like stumbling around in the dark, surrounded by primed landmines after your eyes had been gouged out with spoons and you had been kicked in the head by a wilderbeast.

The New Player Experience feels like I am stumbling around in the dark, surrounded by primed landmines (some of which actually decide to give my tired old feet a little massage, rather than blow them off), and my eyes are still in my head. The wilderbeast is now on the BBQ .

I can now make my ship go where I want it to go. Most of the time. OK, some of the time. OK, rarely, but that is an improvement.

I can now put stuff on my ship, like guns, and ammo, and go faster stripes. Still not sure what I am actually loading, ammo wise, but they usually don't run out of bullets...

I can now deal miserable death to any NPC bad guy that comes my way (as long as it is in a rubber dinghy compared to my Slasher).

I can now... Well, that's all I can probably manage at the moment, but the point is that I now have a vague idea of what I am doing, rather than no f*****g clue whatsoever.

Point is, now I am actually having fun in EvE, I feel the need to progress, I feel the need to learn, I feel the need to Blow Up Spaceships. I am taking the military tasks so I can learn how to fight, and when I can fight, I will pay my subscription, disappear to nullsec and assemble the mightiest coalition that this game HAS EVER SEEN!

Remember, you heard it hear first.

Kind regards, to future friends and foes,

Hannibal.

Hi all,

I'm having this odd problem right at the beginning of the tutorial. I've killed two seekers, but the commander said I've only one kill and Aura is asking me to fight a second seeker but noone is there. I'm completely stuck at this point, can't do anything but fly around in circles, would appreciate some advice.

The new tutorial is only available to new accounts. You can still do the career agents.

I'm working my way through the career agents right now, and I've discovered, that there are no longer any explanations to the tasks. I can remember the time, when you got a lengthy presentation popup explaning e.g. how scanning with probes works. Additionally you got a lot of skill books with these explanations.

What happend to all this good and helpful stuff? And how is a new player supposed to figure out, how exploration and hacking is working?

This was in the trial account and the old tutorial

The NPE new tutorial is only for people who created a new account AFTER the implementation of Eve: Assention.

So what you are describing still exists, but only with brand new accounts.

Hm, since this is a brand new pilot, which moved from NPE to the career agents, I don't know what you are talking about. Or do you want to point out, that the existing explanations were switched off with the introduction of the NPE?But then my question is valid: how is a new player supposed to learn complex stuff like scanning with probes?

The NPE does not explain scanning? If not then yes, this is an issue. The old "opportunities" map is still present. Perhaps that gives clearer explanations as to what to do.

There are a LOT of useful videos tabbed out under f12. Aura should point out these videos specifically in the NPE. A lot of people never notice there is another tab in f12.

That's what I am talking about. The old career agents were embedded into a tutorial with lots of information and some giveaway stuff. Why are the videos not connected likewise?

Example: before I got a civilian missile launcher via the mission briefing, and the skills and missiles via tutorial presentation. Now there is only the briefing, but no tutorial, so the player has to look for the missiles and the necessary skills for themselfes.

Another example: since I thought I knew how scanning works, I accepted the mission, warped to a planet, launched the probes and hit F10 .... only to discover, that the solar system map no longer shows the probes scan range globes and the scan results. Send in a bug report. Next day I found out, that there are videos explaining stuff, and that there is a different solar system map to be used for scanning. Modified the bug report from UI to gameplay.
This opens up two questions: why did anybody thought that using two different star system maps would be a good idea? And why are the career missions no longer linked to a tutorial of any sort?

Looking for assignment: have missiles, will travel ...

The Mini Skill Injector is tradeable, which is problematic. There seems to already be an economy of people creating new accounts just to get these items, and either sending them to their main character or selling them with a contract.

1) Use Autopilot. Really. Only in about end it is mentioned it will get you killed. briefly.

2) Resetting/restoring tutorial. People click about and cannot go back to it. Agreed to above about voice acting being machine gun quality.

3) How about real fitted frigate to show how ship should look like? Also tutorial/career agent about fitting itself (the intro section is cluttered as it is)

4) scanning/probes not explained, lots of people confused in chat.

5) unrealistic expectations about going against cruisers or FAX. If rookie would try to kill circardian seeker as he was shown in tut expect fireworks.
