It doesn't even look good or amazing and it certainly doesn't add to the immersion. To me the camera movement makes it weird and "unnatural" and the whole tunnel thing just feels awkward. I would really like a way to disable it.

What would also work, to me at least, is if you don't actually get the ship's perspective but instead the camera stays focussed on the gate and you see your ship zoom off. No weird camera rotation, zooming in or out. Just the gate's perspective, see your ship whiz off, switch to the new gate and see your ship arrive, and while that's all going on you have control over the camera.

CCP Sisyphus in this lengthy thread I missed your post. So I don't know if you addressed it, but

It is not just the camera pan and the warp tunnel on jumping gates (you appear begrudgingly to recognize you have a problem now). This is a very serious problem as it happens every jump and we jump around in this game very often. No one wants to feel nausea so often, especially in a recreational activity, that doesn't involve inebriation and the forgetting of the later unpleasantness likely to come.

But it is also the auto scanner graphics that happen every jump even if you told the damn scanner not to show the green and red markers in space. More irritating even to me is the 360 radar Tron auto cinematic effect every friggin jump. It actually interferes with one's ability to respond to what is on the gate of the system you just jumped into. Please FFS and everything that is holy give us a way to TURN THIS **** OFF.

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

then you can keep it. What? All the rest of us are asking for is a way to turn it off

cool i like how the camera auto turns i can see how this may bother ppl though so an option to toggle it on/off would be great but i would also like to be able to see my ship in the jump tunnel make it cloak just b4 landing in new system would be nice would be cool to control the cam during the jump too i think these are the main issues right?

i agree i to dislike the auto scan but i do like the effect dont get me wrong its nice i just don't like the fact that its auto plz give me an off switch mostly its just the sound i dislike its really bad having to hear it 150 times when i take my 3 toons 50 jumps it starts to grate on my ears it fine that anoms auto show in the scanner window but cosmic sigs should show only after probes are used to scan this was a bad change for whs that like to roll holes and ninja gank ppl running sites but if you rolled this back you will also have to make ore sites scannable via probes once again you srsly messed up the balance of things with odyssey please rethink these changes ccp

I wouldn't blame CCP for wanting to make more money, they're a company and that's what they even exist to do (as soon as they went the company route, it's about the $$$$$$$$. Sure make a game, but it's now a business).

But what I do have a problem with is the ignorance about some basic things in game design (which is like suicidal behavior for companies...hurting your cash base is not wise).

If something is physically hurting your players you fix it ASAP.

When MoP was released in WoW they had a healer spell effect that literally blinded raids (white out conditions - it slipped QA too). Within days it was fixed (I didn't even realize the effect was that evident, but before I could find out, it was fixed). Blizzard didn't wait for a month to change an animation, they got to see it, the results....fixed.

The difference here is Blizzard could go back and see it, test it and fix it within days. The foot dragging of CCP is troubling, as they can get someone they trust to check it out and deduct what's wrong, and fix it within days too. It's going on a month now.

A key part of the game is using the gates. A key part now makes a portion of their player base sick. This is a serious problem, a break down of communication; a break down of even caring about your customers. They're treating it like that text font response, that folks will just adapt and it'll go away.

An epileptic's seizures doesn't just go away.
A diabetic's need for insulin just doesn't go away.

This is a physical reaction to the game. It doesn't go away, because the underlining reasons for being sick can't be fixed by the player himself.

Astronaut Alan Shepard is a classic example of having a medical condition that caused him to lose being an astronaut for years, until he got experimental surgery to fix it. He could not fix it himself. Like an epileptic can't be cured of his seizures or that diabetic can't just grow a new pancreas.

It's stunts like this that give sandbox games such bad names. You can't have a good sandbox game because the devs treat it like it's a litterbox themselves. They crap in it too, then use it as an excuse for imperfection.

EvE isn't ready for prime time if they can't even fix an animation that makes players literally physically sick. No excuse for letting something of the magnitude to not be patched within a week.

And I'll add one of the last remarks from Gus Grissom before he died in the Apollo 1 fire (he was so frustrated with the endless basic operational problems of the Apollo program, and died doing his damnest to fix them)...

"How are we going to get to the moon if we can't talk between three buildings?"

AAA games are AAA because they take away the training wheels and excuses. They learn from their mistakes and keep on improving. Not stay stubborn to protocol and culture and die in a ball of fire...and repeat if again [Challenger] and again [Columbia].

Your primary example, WoW, is nothing but training wheels and excuses. Oh, and gated content.

Triple A games are such because of production values, nothing more.

Actually, that would support my earlier statement that it is the sudden and brief nature of the jump animation that is contributing to motion sickness.

Either that, or singing Dr. Who is an effective anti-nausea treatment...

It already has been posted, but this is just too good to not repost.

Now just picture your ship instead of the Tardis, and the jump tunnel opening around your ship and engulfing it. I wish
i had the video-fu to show.

(Dr. Who theme would be optional, and also the play time of animation loop, adjustable from 1=current length to, say, 5x) Lol

Just a thought - why am I not getting requests to turn off the warp tunnel?
It has EXACTLY the same reasoning behind it, and should we ever achieve our dream of multi node handling for a single system, it would probably serve the exact same purpose.

Yes the jump tunnel is sub-par, so we are working on improving it.

This is completely false.

1.) The warp tunnel is not oblique, you can still see the solar system around you and different graphics settings actually change the look of the warp tunnel.

2.) The warp tunnel does not spin my camera.

3.) The warp tunnel does not zoom solar system objects.

4.) The warp tunnel does not have very strong colors since you can see the solar system around it.

5.) The warp tunnel does not keep your camera at a predetermined zoom level.

6.) Many other reasons I cannot think of right now since I'm posting this late at night.

7.) Why was this "feature" implemented when there are so many other issues that need addressing right now? Is the art department that bored that they have to fix something that isn't broken? I was under the impression they were the main bottleneck in new ship designs?

P.S. As someone who buys a year sub at a time and a current one expiring very soon, it's very disturbing for multiple CCP devs to show outright disdain for a valid concern of this semi-old pilot and others. While EVE provides a unique experience in gaming right now, it does not by any means provide the only enjoyable experience. The question every EVE player needs to ask themselves is, why should I continue supporting a company that inserts a completely irrelevant game change like this which then causes problems for a not-inconsiderable portion of the player base? Yes I understand the animation looks cool for a new player on the tutorial but new players are not the people that have been paying subs for years and are not guaranteed to reach the point you have with current players. If you want "immersion" go play Arma 3 or a super realistic first person racing game. EVE is not immersive in terms of a game world, it's immersive in terms of player interaction through meta gaming and personal relationships. If EVE was immersive we would be piloting through first person views while flying with a joystick.

Ops, it was that tunnel he is referring to! Thought he meant gate tunnel .... my mistake.

And as for what you write here, I can only agree. Give me that tunnel - this I could live with. But an off option is now still clearly preferable!

EDIT: forgot - and NO cam overtake please thank you!

Ranger 1 I just think that MH might be just as tired as I am of all of your attempts in this thread to get ccp in speech, concerning a hiring!Blink

I do not understand why you constantly overwhelms this thread with your support for devs with all sorts of excuses and chitchat about why ccp can not do this or that! You know as well as I that it may well be made. The question is whether ccp want to spend time on the problem - alluding here on an off option. It can be time consuming but no more than that - period!

You must have missed the whole CRZ issue where people would switch zones and it would instantly switch from day to night, or the other way around. People prone to seizure were having trouble with that too. It took a few months to fix that.

I do hope they get rid of all the camera panning that's going on. It's incredibly jarring.

Feels like a movie, seen once, the effect is pretty cool, but after being forced into seeing it very often it's just annoying.

Told Blizzard point blank my opinion of it -- like a heck of a lot of other players irate about it and it's effect on the economy.

CRZ doesn't affect players like that as the scenery doesn't change at all -- you don't port into anywhere, nor are met with fancy effects. CRZ is fancy phasing that has been in use in WoW since WotLK (2008) and nothing to get sick over.

The only problem with CRZ function wise is the glitching caused by waiting for Battle.net to recognize the zone change. And that's no different than when getting through an EvE gate to the other side (when the textures load up).

5.4 they're going to align 10 realms at a time into a mega realm by that phasing, with the AH. Who knows, by the next expansion they may even have a virtual one Azeroth realm. They're already clustering them beyond just battlegroups. They merged all battlegrounds and LFR with all realms, and these are the last tidbits for full integration.

For an old game engine, Blizzard's WoW is really pushing tech and may even creep into EvE territory with the one server concept. Now let's see what CCP's EvE can put on the table.

Love the competition!

It did when switching servers meant switching times of the day. When CRZ first came out servers weren't all on the same time zone. There were flight paths you could hop onto that would switch you between zones constantly, causing a disco effect of going from night to day. It took them a few months to move all the servers to a universal time so it didn't happen. If you don't think it's something to get sick over, good for you. There's plenty of people not getting sick over the new gate animations too.

That still didn't change the camera angle. And what's causing the issue with this gate animation IS the forced camera angle.

1. Any flight paths in WoW are gryphon routes.
2. Players with their own flying mounts aren't on any "grid" you can free fly (and if you have a main, all the main's mounts are available to alts so gryphon rides are pointless. If you have your own mounts the only reason to use a gryphon is to travel AFK...and you won't be at the computer!).
3. Any kite mounts wasn't effected as MoP zones aren't CRZ.

When CRZ became available before MoP, I didn't notice any issues but the stuttering (or the usual Wintergrasp fall-to-your-death surprise. The other issue is the 2 player mount dismounting that still hasn't been fixed, and they're aware of it but can't for whatever reason fix it now).

I quite like the new jump animation thingy.

Of course I also remember when CCP proved their hatred and contempt for the players by dooming EVE to die within a couple of months by changing the font.

So you're excusing Blizzards failures because they didn't affect you... Blizz and CCP are no different. They toss in a new feature and say learn to love it, we'll fix the problems when we get to it. Like you said, they still haven't fixed 2 person mounts and it's been out for how long?
