Reading the thread, it seems its not the warp tunnel, but the camera rotation prior and after the jump that Is causing problems.

For me, it's actually both. They just play very well upon each other. Think of it kind of like the way a roller coaster is set up that has a slow, smooth curve in it right before plummeting you down a hill. They are made that way because the two factors amplify each other.

like i said.
do something about the sudden, uncontrollable camera movement, and you fix the motion sickness issue.

without the camera movement, you have the same effect as warping though a planet. and i have never seen a thread about removing warp effects.

When the new warp effect was brought in there were many threads identical to this demanding the ability to turn it off because it caused everything from motion sickness to epileptic seizures.

And I will say this one more time (this makes eight now). You don't HAVE to see the tunnel animation of warping through a planet. If you are zoomed out to a high degree and looking from an angle that isn't behind the ship, almost all of the movement from warp cannot really be seen. You just see wispy "space wind" lines. If they want to allow complete camera control during gate jumps that would let me do this, great. However, I am sure an animation off option would be much easier.

Actually, due to the nature of how this effect is coded and linked to game mechanics, an "animation off" button is likely to be extremely difficult to code.

It's tied to fundamental game mechanics and resource handling, not a glitz effect like a turret animation or muzzle flash.

You folks really need to understand that some effects can not be made optional, they can only be changed in their entirety else they need to be completely redesigned from the ground up.

I think if they tweaked how the camera swing works a bit, perhaps slowing it down (that would take some experimentation) most people complaining would be satisfied... but I wouldn't count on it becoming optional.

The advice given to people is ********, there should be an option to turn it off for those that get sick, this sickness is caused by the brain being tricked into thinking the body is in motion in ways that it shouldn't be. That's ok for a short while but over longer periods it makes some people feel sick.

... which is caused by being so close to the screen that your peripheral vision is inhibited and cannot keep your brain "oriented" correctly.

I didn't say it would be easy. I said it would likely be easier than giving me complete camera control, or a total zoom out and look top down option. If that's not the case, it sounds like a severe lack of foresight, and they deserve the sub drop that will likely come with a definite "it's staying as is" answer.

There are aspects in every game or other piece of software that you have ever used that are hard coded, and these are usually done that way for a reason (often having to do with them being linked to resource allocation during processor or memory intensive tasks).
And no, it's highly unlikely they will see a loss in subs... just as they lost no subs the last few times threads like this cropped up for a few days after a new effect is introduced.

I luv the new animation. I always thought it was dumb that we never went INTO a gate to jump...

Everyone is always repeating the mantra "Don't Trust Anyone" ad nauseum... If I can't trust the guys I play with, why bother playing with them at all? Fly Solo...

/shrug They've already lost all of mine until it's changed, but I am one of those "annoy me, go **** yourself" kind of people. I have a feeling that a lot of the people bothered by this aren't voicing it here (I've seen several concerns in my alt's npc corp chat, for example), and new players will have much less quarrel with leaving over something like this than a multi-year veteran.

The goal was 'immersion' and the result for some was 'motion sickness' ... maybe its time to introduce a 'Windows-type' ease of access center for members with visual sensibilities which will allow them to turn off the good stuff.

I actually love the graphics as it brings in a much needed level of stress and immersion to what was becoming more of an intellectual exercise.

You think this is bad... wait til the Oculus Rift helmet is integrated into Eve Lol

If wearing a glorified beer hat were ever made mandatory for this game, it would die a very violent death. That would have to be...what?...yes, optional.

I recognize that there are aspects of any software package that are hard coded, deeply nested, and so difficult to change. And I agree that from a computer scientist's point of view this is often done for very good reasons -- reasons to do with optimizing memory use and algorithm efficiency. That's what comp-sci is good at. Still, problems can arise when a whole other dimension of design is ignored: computer scientists and engineers typically lack the training to assess human usability factors. They are not cognitive psychologists (and they should not be asked to be).

Let me give you a concrete example. About 15 years ago, "search and rescue" heads up displays were pretty good from a purely technical point of view. It was therefore hard for the engineers involved to understand why elite pilots who used them kept crashing into very large stationary objects while making seemingly routine landings. The problem was ultimately solved by recognizing that the human brain has certain limitations with regard to attention capture. The modern generation of HUDs is based on integrating an understanding of those human limitations into design from the ground up.

My suggestion for CCP is to do what the military did: factor human usability into the equation early on so we don't end up in blind alleys like this. Algorithm efficiency is important. But so are cognitive issues. Pilot nausea is not going away even if you prove to us that the algorithm you have going is mathematically impeccable or chase us from the forums.

So we face the problem: what to do? My suggestion is to address the issue.

WTB turn off this new "feature"

It's nice for 3 or so jumps, but ow it hurts after a while, actually minimising eve and using auto pilot through low sec

In the 7 years of playing EVE, this is added to the list of pointless features and waste of resources CCP are now famous for

How do you know ? Nothing in your profile indicate that you have more insight in this than anyone else outside of CCP. The only comment I have seen from CCP on the topic is that "there is no old system anymore" (which makes me wonder what happened to version control?)

I am not interested in speculation about how the code is implemented or in an discussion about development. I am just genuinely curious about where you have your insight in the implementation from ?

Yep i herd this shet before when you removed ship spinning and tried to force me to play barbie doll eve. Dat didnt happen and this isnt ether clowns!
Guess what i have never used captain quarters nor will i.
Guess what clowns i pay you so you do what i want or what the majority of us want or we will stop paying you

You will get a off button for that jump animation pronto clowns.

does this need to get ugly like captains quarters and the dev getting publicly pants again, or will you just respond positively to the reasonable requests of your players and do as they ask.

1. Scanner needs to stay off when turned off, currently it comes on after every jump believe it or not most of us dont give shet about scanning and your just annoying the hell out of us.

2. jump gate animation is nauseating even i as someone who flies drones in real life and i dont want to see that crap every time i jump its nauseating and poor animation.

3. ice mining really ? Wtf i wont even say i can begin to understand why you made these changes i am just waiting to see how it turns out.

I can fly like this RL but your jump animation is bothering me that should tell you something give me the option to turn it off or this game has become very unappealing to me to play
