I believe the irritation and dangers presented to a cloaky in nullsec gravely out weighs the irritation of other players of their presence... Take down the warp bubbles and the drones you leave everywhere (namely region gates) and you might see the afkers leave...

Otherwise expect the afk cloakies are there to keep tabs on the system and operations... I see nothing wrong with steak outs going afk and having players pop on and off the check things

2 new null bear thread today, update please.

This one
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=221581&find=unread

says his problem is not having some hostile is in the system (noooo of course is not) but to know what he's doing in his real life (if he is at his desktop or gone to eat a sandwitch or to pee).

this other seems mor original:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=221542&find=unread

I like the idea of this thread, nicely done.

I would like to add a few things in terms of the remove local crowd, there is one part of me that seriously agrees with you, in that it would make space big and unknown again, but you have to remove all the other data that gets shown in Eve for a 0.0 system, such as kills, cyno's, NPC kills, jumps, etc.

So when people talk about the perfect intel tool called local, what about the other perfect intel tools that enable you to find activity?

When you mindlessly bleat remove local to an AFK cloaky whine thread, please think it through to the end point, because if you just remove local and leave all those nice shiny reports on activity you have just make it really easy for the easy fix brigade to get kills and Eve is not supposed to be an easy game is it?

When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

I'm sorry, but this is a false equivalency, by comparing local to different out of game and in game intel.

The other methods are basically statistical, not live but delayed. They serve to effectively create a reputation for different pilots and systems based on past activity.

They are just fine, thank you very much, and for two major reasons.

Effort: They require more effort than simply watching a list from a chat channel. You want to know what happened in the past with system X, or pilot X? Great. That doesn't tell you what they are doing now, but feel free to guess.
The possibility of them duplicating past efforts will never be certain.

Not instant: Knowing they can fly a cloaked ship doesn't mean they are doing so at any given moment. You may even know they are online, but that hardly tells you enough about most players to be certain of anything beyond that they are online.

That is in game information, and the effort required is clicking systems in Dotlan or looking at blobs for NPC kills on the Eve star map, wow that was hard, no need to actually enter a system and look for some one using D-scan, its there, ratter operating in system and all you have to hope is that he does not have scouts watching the gates or that he can D-scan the gate where you come in with your Rapier. With that free intel without local it becomes so easy, its like taking candy from a baby!

Gank bears want it easy, its sad...

When the term free intel is batted around, the context is often 'free from effort' entirely.

A history report, even one updated recently, won't warn you about impending events. Just that an area has a reputation or not for them.

Add to that the effort required to click anything, be it d-scan or a map for history, etc.
