I don't think the newbie Q&A is an appropriate venue for trolling, Beckie.

Kai, there are multiple resources out there (blogs, wikis, guides, forums, etc) that can help you move on and up in Eve. With Eve having no well-defined "path" you should follow, the answers probably vary a lot. Some that I would recommend are:

There are tons and tons of others, and it's probably quite unmanageable. What I recommend far above any of those is find a newbie-friendly corp to join (that does what you'd like to do, of course). That way, you have people you can ask questions of live instead of just walls of text. Plus, Eve is a social game, and having people to play with is always good.

but the SoE arc gives you a good amount of starter isk which I doub the OP has.. and also just helps you get more familiar with the game and traveling to different regions etc. I did it as a noob because everyone recommened it and it was fine. I started solo exploration after that, just high sec is so damn sparse with good sites you have to travel so much. Still though, it was fun and lead me to wormholes and all that has to offer. What race ships do you fly?

For highsec exploration most of the sites are "gated" (combat sites anyway, where the most isk to be made is.) IE: A 3/10 site only allows frigates, destroyers, and cruiers to enter. Most high sec sites are 4/10 or lower. So I would stick with a cruiser and a frigate for all your exploration (assuming your in high sec.)

As an explorer there are 3 types of signatures that when you scan down you want to run.

Magnemetric sites: require an "Analyzer" and or "Salvager" (modules, t1 are fine.) These are archaeological sites where you are analyzing or salvaging remnants of old ships. These are probably the least money makers of the sites.

Radar sites: require a "codebreaker" (again, t1 is fine.) These sites require you to "hack" certain canisters and then you can loot what is inside.

Combat sites/DED Sites: These are strictly combat sites, sometimes with multiple "rooms" tied together by acceleration gates. Basically you clear the enemies, and look for the faction spawn or "boss" if you will. They have a chance of dropping deadspace or faction modules which can be worth a lot.

So basically its a good idea to have a salvager, analyzer, and codebreaker in your cargo. Then after you scan and bookmark the sites you go refit for whatever site you are running. I would use a scan frigate (ie Heron,) to scan and boomark the sites. Then go back with your combat/explo ship and clear them. Be quick though, high sec sites are competetive. I would open the map, and look for systems with low amount of players in it.

The hardest thing in eve to learn, is how to fit ships.


There are so many ships and modules, it takes time and experience, mostly from tiral-and-error to figure it out. You will lose many **** fits along the way, and maybe even get trollololololed at..

The only way to figure out what you need to fit, is to understand what you are doing, and how each module is going to assist you in doing what ever it is you are doing.

Basically it just means the higher the number the more difficult it is..Since all the sites have rats, yu will need two ships. One to scan the sites down (imicus) and another to actually run them.. . So a cruiser of any sort with as good as tank/gank you can fit is fine. any t1 cruiser can handle anything 3/10 and lower with a decent tank. (or you can use an all-in-one as seen below)

I myself used an "all-in-one" Gila.. If you have a hard time scanning stuff down use your Imicus for scanning only, bookmark, then come back with your Vexor. Since the Vexor is a drone boat your high slots are not needed for DPS, just utilities. 1 gun to get aggro, then throw your drones out. Hope this helps.
