The imicus is getting a couple of good buffs to improve combat capabilities in December including a 3/4/3 layout and the ability to field 4 light drones with some spares in the drone bay. All of the other exploration frigates are getting drone bay expansions as well. Drones 5 isn't difficult to train, and unlocks Drone Interfacing which significantly increases drone damage. At least in highsec, guardian rats on mag and radar sites are fairly weak.

Personally, I use a Vexor for scanning in highsec because I've found combat sites a more consistent income than radar sites. (I found 5 radars over the weekend, after a two-week dry spell.) And I've only encountered a handful of mag, grav, and ladar sites that I couldn't pin down in an otherwise combat-fit destroyer or cruiser.

The lower-ranked DED sites have a maximum ship size:
1/10: Frigate
2/10: Destroyer
3/10: Cruiser
4/10: Battlecruiser
5/10: Battleship.

Thanks for the info, how do I know the rank of a site? I don't remember that showing up in the scan results.

What does DED mean?

Actually, I can't believe nobody linked this yet, but... have a good "What To Do?" reference:

There are, of course, more things than that to do, but it gives you some idea (plus links to basic info pages on each thing).

And most important. Ask questions, they might sound stupid to you, but a question needs to be answered. Even if it has been answered 1000 times already. We all were noobs once, so why invent the wheel over and over again when you can ask for advice. There are no stupid questions, besides the ones that you didn't answer.

Also, as said, player corporations (specially the ones that are new player friendly and teach new players) are a great source of information. My knowledge of EVE would be way smaller without the corps I have been in, unknowing you learn stuff (or educate others).

What does DED mean?

In game backstory/lore, Directive Enforcement Department (of CONCORD.)

As a feature of exploration, DED sites are combat-oriented locations that you can identify with scanner probes. Usually they contain dozens of pirates or drones of varying difficulty and bounty value. The rated sites will tell you the difficulty level with a pop-up on warp-in. Rated sites also frequently drop tokens ("Overseer's Personal Effects") that can be sold for ISK, and/or faction modules. Well-geared players can blitz the sites to pick up the high-value loot. Unrated sites have lower rewards, but still may be worth clearing for the bounties. Both appear in the "unknown" category when you're scanning them down.

Once I have the name of a combat site, I usually search evelopedia using the in-game browser to figure out what I can expect. So for example Serpentis Live Cargo Distribution Facilities is a rated site, while Serpentis Watch is an unrated site.

Thank you so much for this explanation, makes sense now! Too bad they don't have the rating integrated right in!
