There's no massive conflicts of that scope right now. There's skirmishes, but nullsec is pretty quiet, and wormhole space seems to be quieting down too.

There is definitely some *serious* rearming going on, however. Nullsec is on a war footing again in a way it wasn't 12 weeks ago.

I look forward to the conflict any war provides. That said, EVE has many things to do. I lean towards exploration of wormhole space myself. It's rewarding, you can go at your own pace, there's pvp, and it's always fun. For me anyways.

Different wars and offensives happen for different reasons. In a sandbox game like Eve, going to war with someone creates content for both sides and that's a good thing. Right now, for example, a newbie group called Pandemic Horde is deploying to the Fade region of null sec to invade the space of SpaceMonkeys Alliance.

Hello. My name is Tiffany. I am from Australia.

I just started playing this video game (my first one ever!) and have been finding it very hard to understand. Someone told me I should put a post on here and introduce myself so here I am lol. Introducing myself. Hopefully there are some people out there that read this and play this as well that might be able to show me a few things or explain how everything works and what I need to do to get an understanding of it all.

I didn't think it would be so hard. One person in the game just messaged me after I asked a question and said that it wasn't a girls game and to go and play the Sims instead so I kind of want to make sure I get this now.

Tiff.

Howdy, from another Australian.

There's no such thing as a "girl's game" or a "mens' game". Two of the more ruthless pirates I know in EVE are women IRL.

This game *is* generally aimed at people that are willing to do independent research into complex mechanics, and aggressively optimize to the point of bending the rules.

If you are interested in the dark side of EVE - worming your way into people's trust then inserting a knife into their backs; joining corporations to fleece members; piracy; scamming - let me know via EVEmail, and I'll put you in touch with other e-assholes like myself.

Hello :)

Not really my thing sorry. I'm no good at fibbing and I'm more of a "do unto others" kind of person :)

But thank you very much for the offer.

So I've done lots of missions and stuff now but it's getting lonely out there in space :(

How do you know what group to join? I just want one that wont be angry at me for not knowing everything and wont make me do things I don't want to do. But everyone keeps saying people stab you in the back or lie and cheat and steel and if possible I would like to minimise my chances of having that happen to me :(

It's kinda similar to how you found us. You make a post and see what happens. You join a corp that looks cool and see what happens.

For social experimentation, I would recommend posting in General Discussion, where the trolls are, to build up a bit of flame resistance.

The guide linked by J'Poll is pretty good; I recommend reading it.

Also keep in mind that player corps in this game are created and function in order to achieve some in-game activity, and it takes a bit of effort on the part of the CEO and Directors to organize daily events for the members. So quite a few of the corps will be very... action oriented:
Hi.
Hi.
How are you?
Well, today I'm not feeling very well, my cat woke me up and then...
Yeah that's nice; can you come to system X? I'm tackled by two guys and they're about to kill me, HELP!

Finally, high-security space is crowded, and pretty much all the PVE activities can be done better solo than in a player group (shared loot, extra taxes). So a lot of the high-sec corps are crappy. The dangers of being attacked in lowsec, null, or wormhole space serve to keep a corp together and its members helping each other, so "dangerous space" corps tend to be better than high-sec corps. Not always, though.

So, decide in general what you want to do, and click the Corp icon in-game, filter the list by your interests, look at the ads, and contact the recruiters for those that seem interesting. This will probably result in joining a small or medium group, who will probably readily accept you and be quite friendly.

Or, you can also apply to join one of the large alliance mass newbie recruitment programs: Pandemic Horde, KarmaFleet, etc... they're organized like schools, and you can "hide" in the crowd of other newbies who've also joined.

EVE is a social experiment without equal, and it had a single goal, and that was:

To see if people are willing to pay to work a second job, on their own time.

I would say it has been answered splendidly, but like good scientist they want to keep it going as long as possible to see the long term effects.

It's the premise of this thread, no?

No. That is just how I came to join this video game. It was their attempt to make me socialize in any manner they could achieve.

Since starting I have learnt heaps thanks mostly, well entirely really, to the people in this thread and have bought a subscription thing to keep playing it.

That basis of this thread was initially to put myself out of my comfort zone I guess which worked, but now it is more to get myself "out there" which I was kind of hoping I had now achieved.

But there are those few people that seem to be hostile or something even though I've never done anything to them. I learnt about the trolls but there are now a small number of people that can vouch for me so I don't let it get to me.

It's my first video game, I don't know much, I'm trying to learn and trying to be social.

That's all.

Experimentation is not only one of the best ways to learn it is really the only way that you can come to know something i.e. through experience.

Social experimentation and social engineering have gotten bad names by being used for manipulative and selfish reasons. But like everything social experimentation is just a tool and as such can be used for good or bad.

You can experiment with being social and grow as a person maybe even make some friends. I doubt most people would call that manipulative or bad.

You can also preform social experimentation to learn how to better manipulate people for maximum benefit for the self with complete disregard for the costs to others. Something that I think most people would likely consider bad. I tend to lump anyone involved in sales or marketing in that category and I'll admit not always rightly so.

Anyway my main point is don't be afraid to call something what it is just because typically that thing is abused. Everything has positive and negative aspects.

I just meant that for me it wasn't an experiment. It was just me trying to not be a hermit and shy all my life. that's all :(

Please Don't mistake my attitude for hostility,
I'm very amused by this thread,

If im right in my initial assesment though my hats off to you and im certain loyd sees it too.

I've learnt that no matter what you post in this thread, I don't think I will ever understand what you mean :(

Who is loyd? Why is your hat off to me?

While I have everyone as well. Someone sent me money in the game with a note that said "trololol" Why?

And what is FC? I keep reading it in other news pages

If you were a baseball player and wanted to become a better batter you would experiment with different variations on your swing.

Experimentation is simply coming up with an idea of how you think something will turn out and then trying it out and see how far off the end result is from where you initially thought it would take you. Really pure experimentation is just trying something to see what happens.

Experimentation is truly a wonderful and powerful thing. You should not be afraid of experimentation. It is how we learn nearly everything in this life. Even as very young children we experiment with all kinds of things. This is how we learn and grow.

If you shy away from experimentation you will be stifling yourself and your ability to learn and grow. One of the best ways to learn in this game is experimentation and I am constantly telling newbros to experiment with different ships and different fits to get to know this game.

As a matter of fact just today if you browse other threads here you'll find places where newbros ask for answers to questions and instead of giving them a direct answer ( often because they are looking for an objective answer to a subjective question but I digress ) I will show them how they can come to know the answer experiential through experimentation.
