So the popup looks like this (on OSX) https://i.imgur.com/27VLLp2.png If you've got a suggestion on what text would make it clearer, then I'm all ears.

Basically if you don't migrate your install, you must download it. In your particular cases, if you didn't migrate your install the assets have probably been removed since they were considered unnecessary.

O.k. thanks. The confusion is that if you already have the client installed you really shouldn’t even get this option. It should just migrate it automatically. It seems counter intuitive to ask if you want to download a new client if you have one installed already and when non-programing people get confused the default is to click “no”

I would add something along the lines of “Not migrating current assets will re-download the entire client” or something.

Also it is currently downloading the new assets to the new location, yet when I show info on my sisi application (the old location) it is still showing it as being 20 gigs. (and if I show package contents on that and then show info on the EVE application in that it shows it as being 22 gigs?) So it looks like I’m going to end up with 32gigs of stuff just for sisi.

It should clear up after itself, once it's finished downloading. If it doesn't let me know and if you could, it would be great to get your log file, which you can find under EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/cache

Its like you need a resetable first down load info pop up that is easy for us testers to use. Does the command line reset work now it did not last time I tryed it.

Some of what will be put out in the dev blog needs to be added to this pop up.

Things like "EVE Online uses a down load on demand system to update the client. This allows for faster load up of the game and smaller patches. If you are a new player please select the location you want the cache to be located and where you want the game to run from.

if you already have a client installed please identfy the location of that installation and where you want the master cache to be located.

For those with slow internet it is advised to down load the full cache by clicking here.

I liked the example that was made up by some one earlier in the thread.

If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

Trying it now, but the download is freezing a lot. I have a rather fast connection, but the download is really slow and occasionally just freezes and I have to force quite and start the launcher again.

There's ~60,000 files it has to request, if it's not migrating from an existing installation, and it spreads that across several threads. Either way it's a lot of requests to make.

Well I'm having the same problems here.It tries to download the whole client , I followed all the instructions as per the blog info and I see the Shared Cache file in the master p-drive folder.
I have Singularity on its own client etc.How do I stop it from downloading all that data or is there no way?
As for the download it freezes on me as well , its got nothing to do with size it just doesn't download the data.

It needs that data one way or another. If you don't have any stuff files (ie: they've been deleted already) then you have no choice but to download them again.

Ok well thats a shame.
But either way it stalls and no traffic downloads at all from the launcher when it attempts to patch.
Here is my current launcher Log File

Thanks for the log, however it only shows you using the TQ build (2.2.859950) against TQ, so doesn't really shine any light on your downloading issues Smile

Here's mine if it helps. It's just stuck with 4.45 gigs to go.

Just by sitting outside the main testing station and looking at the ships that undock, I've managed to make the client freeze for several seconds many times. It really is imperative that downloading resources in space should never lock up the client like this.

To clarify this is with the "look at" command. I haven't been able to produce the same problem with manual camera zooming. This is still very troubling though because "look at" is frequently used in pvp.

Hrm, could you try running with the following command line arguments in addition to whatever you normally use: /log:debug /uniquelog

That will increase the verbosity of the log files, and save them to a unique file each time it's run.

Oops sorry, I'm new to all this log stuff.

Here's the launcher log

Also I'm not using any command lines to launch. I'm just using the good old click on my sisi launcher.

I see this in your log file: User chose to skip extracting existing assets

So it looks like you're choosing not to extract/migrate anything which will increase the amount you download. As for why it's slow, I can't see anything in particular; try doing as I told Virgil McMacset, and add the listed arguments to your command

It's not just "slow" according to the activity monitor I'm getting 1kb (literally 1) every 7 seconds or so.

And I'm not using any command lines to launch. I'm just clicking on my sisi client. As I try to make clear I'm just an "average" computer user so I don't even know what the command lines to launch this thing would be :).

While there is a command line in the launcher advanced settings the other way to do it is to go into your sisi link and add the commands into the command line that say "target" and its the same way you can direct the sisi client to use either "Singularity" or a server ID number to run the client.

Once thee res cache is working correctly the Test servers will be moved into the launcher so you have only one launcher and then can choose to load "sisi" or TQ.

Not sure how far of that is though.

O.k. I understand just enough of that to probably screw the whole thing up.

I'm using what's probably the outdated way to do this which is I have a TQ client and launcher and a separate and full sisi client and launcher( that also asks if I want to connect to duality) that was explained long ago in the mac section. I'm guessing I could now use one launcher to connect to both sisi and TQ? But I would need the explain it like i'm five instructions for that.

Like I said, I'm CCP's test case for "can an average idiot do this" :)

Either way I still think it's something else causing the really slow download.
