The new launcher updates correctly and restarts without any problem.

But:

  • I didn't get any dialog box, didn't get any option, nothing...
  • The download is very fast at start and get slower and slower as the time past...
  • The percents are totally out of sync with the downloaded files' size...
  • The download stops again at around 60%...
  • The launcher doesn't freeze again when the download stops, but...
  • ...it freezes when I try to interact with it.

So, I still can't log on SiSi anymore...

Edit
Note that if I restart the launcher, download starts again (and has kept already downloaded files as the total download size has been reduced) but freezes stops almost immediatly...

This still hasn't been fixed and so I still (again and again) can't log on Sisi anymore...
I'm on Windows 8.1...

Tested again today and it finally worked. Don't know if you changed something between this quoted post and today but if not, I absolutely don't understand what has "fixed" it (if it is really and just not a random problem).

There was an update to the launcher yesterday.

The new launcher worked without issue for me. The only problem I had was when it was extracting resources - this took a VERY long time (over an hour) and slowed my computer up significantly, to the point where I just went for a nice long walk with my dog, 'cause trying to do anything else on my computer was just too painful :)

It didn't clear out my old install when it migrated to the new location so I have two installs for sisi. Could be the way mines set up though but here's the log.

This is a log from 2012, so doesn't help so much! Could you look for a newer one?

The log lists the following:

Which means it can't find any assets in your client to migrate, so it appears to have cleaned up after itself at some point.

Yet they are all still there. i'm still showing the resources folder where that log came from as 22 gigs and I can see that it's all still there. I can remove them manually of course, but something is not right if I still have a 22gig install and the new 13 gig install.

Can you show me a listing of the files under /Applications/Eve Sisi/Test EVE Online sis.app/EVE.app/Contents/Resources/EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/CCP/EVE/ ?

Well thank you actually. After going through the file path you asked for I found that the 22 gigs are actually in the cache folder, not the program files.

People will want to use already installed game files. If I understand it correctly there is no way to do this with out causing additional dev time. A line in the launcher options window even if its already in the first time pop ups would clarify this issue.

Even a note in the patch notes would be an improvement.

The tool you where going to add to the launcher its not in the current launcher or patch notes did it get cut?

Unfortunately, I had not free time to test the DoD this week, so forgive me if this is already implemented.

In my humble opinion the first action after player update to the new DoD launcher, the first thing is a big unsuppressed windows. Before everything.

1 – The windows MUST ask if the player want to unpack the already existent stuff files. Also, it MUST say clear that if the player choose “NO” he will have to download the hole 12+GB of files (be with DoD or direct download).

2 – If the player choose “YES” another windows must ask where the player want to put the cache folder. It MUST ask the player to choose it, so that way the player do not get tricked by the default “C:” option.

I think those two step was not very clear in the older version of the launcher, and if not stated very clear will cause too much pain in the player base because of bad choices.

That is my feedback. Thanks.

That's how it is in the build on Singularity currently; if the EVE Launcher detects that there are game assets in the EVE installation that it's running from, it will show a dialog informing the user how much data there is and will move them. The selective choice about moving them was removed since it was causing too much confusion.

I'm at home currently, and can't show you the dialogs that the EVE Launcher will show you, but it should find either any stuff files in the EVE Client root, or any audio or video files under the res\ path in the EVE installation, and then move them to the shared resource cache.

Thanks for the info. Final version of those windows in an easy to find format would be nice so that bloggers who need them before the patch goes live for posts have them. The fact that you are pushing the post right after FanFest hurts you.

Any thing about that tool you where going to add?

A option to move all assets from default to a new location would be nice.

CCP:

Now that this is about to hit TQ, can you finally answer some queries that I posted earlier and were ignored:

I currently have two separate installs of the EVE client on my PC, so that when a patch fails and corrupts the install so badly repair won't work (happened more than once), I can just copy the entire EVE directory from the uncorrupted version. I just download large patches once and import into the 2nd client. I don’t use links for this reason.

From other posts, the SISI client apparently gives the option of a save location for the Stuff files. Am I able to specify a different location for each client, so that in effect I will still have 2 separate installs ?

If so, will the repair function still function separately on both installs ?

Can I also keep the SISI install separate ?

I use exefile.exe to play the game, and only use the launcher to patch, which I intend to set to download everything before starting. Currently, when a patch is required, the client opened with the exefile notifies me with an “Incompatible version” message. Will this still happen or will something weird go on ?

CCP Philosophy: If it works, break it. If it’s broken, leave it alone and break something else.

No. The path to the shared resource cache is stored in the Windows registry, since potentially many EVE Clients and EVE Launchers need to know about it.

Worrff wrote:

The EVE Repair Tool will still repair the files within an install, but those files are only the binary/executable content and not the audio, video and other art/game assets that we're moving to the shared resource cache.

Worrff wrote:

The install will be separate in that it will be located in a different folder, and have different binaries and executable, but the art/game assets and such will live side by side in the shared cache, with those from Tranquility.

The EVE Client will still show you that message if your binaries are unpatched. However the game assets in the shared cache will be downloaded as required if you've not patched them.

Why don't you like using the EVE Launcher?

Thanks for the reply.

So, as the repair function only runs against the binaries and executables, are you saying that no client corruption ever occurs in the art/content folders ?

If you are not saying that, how would client issues within these folders be repaired ?

I don't use the launcher as the login is noticeably slower on both my PC's and a laptop. It doesn't really provide anything over the standard login screen, other than access to the Nex store which I never use.

CCP Philosophy: If it works, break it. If it’s broken, leave it alone and break something else.

Before you posted this, have you ever looked at Sisi client root and on rescache.exe tool in particular? I guess not.
REscache tool can verify cache consistency, delete corrupt files, download missing|corrupt resources and clean whole cache.

So if you don't like launcher - just use repair and rescache tools.
