Now that I think about it, I believe that SC best resumes itself to this combination in relation to EVE:

Take EVE + Dust 514 + Valkyrie( using all types of ships for the latter), add landings and takeoffs and atmospheric flight (Tech demo using a malediction shown in EVE in 2004), add realistic physics and boarding capabilities with fights inside large ships, and graphics pushed to the limit = Star citizen.

Early work on the Pegasus class escort carrier, which is currently listed as 700 meters in length and can deploy 30 fighters, and can be purchased by players but requires a crew of a few hundred at least:

Nope, sorry. SC is instanced, EVE isn't, it really is that simple. EVE is still unique in that regard, not to mention not being twitch-based (more strategy based if anything).

And?......I mean have you see what a large fleet battle is like in eve?, and you happen to be flying a ship class that is designated as primary?.....3 things happen:

1: The FPS performance is utter **** while in that big group and waiting for the fight to start, never mind after it's started.
2: The fun factor ended for you right after you got locked up by hostiles, as you were vaporized in under a second afterwards.
3: It is very much a twitch game on big fleet fights, and someone telling you what to do and when to do it.

Instancing I don't mind so much if it keeps the overall numbers in a fight, for both hostiles and ships in your own group, between 50 and 100 ships, as tactics like focused fire don't work as well( not enough ships on either side), and both sides can't afford too many losses and still expect to be effective, so tactics come into play to get a victory and minimizing losses, since ships can't be easily replaced even if they're insured.

There is no 'versus' at this point for one basic reason:

Eve - product launched and in use

SC - product not even in Alpha

Actually, the alpha was released 2 days ago.....Well, AC 1.0 anyhow....P

Where s the SC alpha? All I see is a space Barbie game, and a dogfight game. Nither of which appear to really be connected in any way. The AC on its own is prolly a lot of fun. the rest of it... we will see, I mean what with the servers disconnecting every 60 min or so,

The full alpha with all the modules released, and the full 50 mission single player campaign, and the 64 bit conversion, will be done in the next 12 months, but even if they pull all this off in time, I already know what you're going to say by this time next year:

" But where is the finalized game, isn't it still in beta?....P

Oh and if you're wondering, that disconnect issue was solved with the network team staying late into Saturday, and even missing the company Christmas party, so hats off for their dedication.

I seem to remember you last year stating that dog fight would be out before pax.. then before e3... then before something else. so I doubt 12 months

It has been for the last several months, but only a few ships were available....Now all the single seat ship are in, about 20 in total if we include the variants, and a lobby match system is in place.

It's gradually getting done no matter how much you want it to fail in the most spectacular way possible...That's been your thing ever since it was announced on kickstarter 2+ years ago, and I took the risk and backed since then and have yet to regret it.

Now there's 300+ people from 6 studios working on each module( each studio is specializing on a given module), so it's developing at a very fast pace...Much faster than it has been in the past 2 years.

CCP must be kicking themselves to see that they could have set up the NEX store to sell items without even going to the trouble of putting the items into the game first.

The most interesting part of Star Citizen to me is the multiplayer multi-crewed ships. I'm really hoping they can make that part of the game work decently.

I was pretty hardcore into multi-crewed vehicles (armored vehicles and helicopters) in the Arma series and enjoyed it very much. Once you get your crew running like a well oiled machine its very satisfying and fun.

Did you read the article on energy and shield management? It loosk like a potentially awesome system...

...as far as the average incoming fire takes a good while to take down a shield.

"I need extra power for my section!"
(2 seconds later)
"Aye, redirecting power to your section"
(1 second later)
"There you go, stand fast!"
"Nevemind, we're effin' dead..."

But then, if eating through the shields of a multicrew ships is a non trivial task, requiring focused fire and a management of DPS... that could be a good game.

Frankly I haven't played Arena Commander so i don't know how fast do ships die (whether they're EVE Online-tough, Zero-tough or Thunderbolt-tough), but I hope SC gets it right among all the other endless things they must get right to succeed as a game.

Literally the entire business model of Star Citizen is making wild claims about 'potentially awesome' features to tempt in gullible nerds and pocket their cash without having to worry too much about the means of actually implementing them.

I'm an SC backer, and the primary draw for me is immersion. I want to feel like I'm in command of a 'living/breathing' ship. In EvE, you don't get that.

EvE really only has one advantage: Scale

And that advantage will disintegrate quickly as SC ramps up.

There are some things in SC that I raise my eyebrow at, like the 'PvP/PvE slider', but at the end of the day... I'm not sure it really matters whether you run into a PC or an NPC if the end result is the same.

From the looks of it they really should ditch the PvE aspects to just a one multiplayer campaign and make it a 'carrier class' dog fighting game where you and your buddies form up a crew in fighter pilots/command staff/ what ever and then duke it out war birds style.

I've never bothered about mining in EVE and only did so in the tutorials and odd mission that required it.
But, after seeing the first mining ship for SC i think i might just give it a try when it gets there.
The ship looks impressive, reminds me of the Noctise, but with a staggering amount of more detail on it:
