Not everyone who plays consoles is a "console kiddie." There is a HUGE market of full grown men with real lives and jobs etc who spend LOTS of money on this stuff.

I have a bunch of friends who have a mortage, wife, kids, career and play MW and BF and every one of them I show the DUST trailers and tell them about it get REALLY excited about the fact that it is persistant and the battles matter.

I even tell them when I try to "sell" them the game that, "the gameplay probably won't be mold breaking or anything but the fact that you are interacting with all the politics of EVE if a BIG deal"

They read online gaming publications and know all the drama in EVE politcs. Blending that with an FPS? OMG this is going to rock the game world.

This is exactly right. And with the PS3 I find this to be even more the case than with the Xbox; I own both and find far more "console kiddies" on Xbox Live than on PSN. I know, a generalization, but that's been my experience. So in my opinion, although CCP would have liked Dust to be on both consoles, I think they were limited by MSFT's lameness to the better machine/network anyhow.

Hey folks bear with me with the bad english.

What I am consern about is that it will come out to late, if you do a search on google you will now find that they are talking about release late in 2012 mybe 2013.

What I am concerned about is CCP wanting to put this on a hardware platform that in 2013 will be 7 yrs old.
(released November 11, 2006). Really guys? Could Dust not be better served on the PC (with better hardware) and reach a MUCH broader audience?

I would risk saying that most people these days who have a ps3 own a computer. So the few players they would get from a ps3 only release interested in the EVE "phenomenon" is a mute point just to alienate the PC users.

I would also hazard a guess that the PC crowd would bring a little more to the table. Yes yes console players rule ect. I stand by what I just said.

I am also going to guess that CCP's thinking is they don't want to take players away from EVE playing PC users away from playing EVE. Well... you can't play a PS3 and EVE on PC at the same time either.

If DUST was PC... They would have my $ for Dust as well.

However, it is not. So they do not.

Having played PC, PS3 and 360 online gaming I can say without a doubt that the same type of players exist on all platforms, good and bad.

Seriously, I've heard both fleet commanders in EVE and guys playing Halo raging over lag and how much it's not their fault that they got owned... they sound exactly the same. Conversely I've also had some really fun gaming sessions with random strangers on all platforms, with good teamwork and a good laugh.

It's the same with the original CoD and the new MW series, same with BF 1942 and BF 3 etc... always the same types of players across multiple platforms. I guess if anything it's more noticeable on consoles because they usually ship with a headset and unlike PC multiplayer games, that's the only way to communicate. No keyboard and chat box, even though it could easily be supported.

No, and no. Graphics, contrary to PC gamers' beliefs, are !> all. And check FPS sales on each platform to clear up the other misconception.
(Dust would be better served on PC due to FPSes playing better on PC, but curiously you didn't bring that up)

Again, compare multiplatform game sales. There is a difference between owning a PC and being a PC gamer.

I would hazard a guess that the PC crowd are idiots. Let's all stop hazarding guesses before it gets out of hand.

As DUST will have regular updates, and downloading a PS 4 version is business as usual, I really don't see your point.

Also the PS Network opens a new audience of over 50million subscribers. That'll have to do for a start. Smile
Just remember two things:

1: CCP knows that many EVE players already own a Playstation, or will own their handheld (Vita).

2: While many EVE players will become involved in DUST because of it's close ties with EVE, the main thrust of the product is not aimed at them. It is aimed at an entirely different (and huge) demographic.

If you have a passing interest in DUST, but aren't into consoles, you can still have fun with it simply by playing the EVE side of the equation. Interact with DUST mercs, hire them, recruit them, order them around, sell to them, buy from them, provide transportation for them, support them, nuke them from orbit... pretty much everything short of shooting them in the head.

If you find that all of that is enjoyable but simply not enough for you, consider getting that PS3... as now there is finally a game out for it that you might enjoy.

Who knows, perhaps eventually, but that opens up a rather large can of worms.

Edit: I don't think you are going to find that many people on the EVE Online forums that are console fanboi's. Blink

However, you will probably find plenty of people that play both PC and Console games.

I'm starting to wonder that myself. I'm waiting until the DUST release draws near to decide. If I just need to wait a couple of months for the PS4 that's probably what I'll do. The word on the street is that Sony is waiting as long as it can to announce the PS4 release date so people keep buying PS3s. ...but the word on the street isn't always worth a lot, so who knows.

Hmm...

From this...
Quote:
Although formidable, the Heavy and Assault suits represent only one aspect of the battlefield eco-system. Sheer firepower will only get you so far. A smart squad will utilize the force multiplying support of the Logistics suit; the recon and electronic warfare specialties of the Scout; and all the modules and equipment they have at their disposal to become an unstoppable force. After all, one should never underestimate the value of a well-placed EMP grenade.

So... FPS combat is like EvE combat?

The game's initial cost will be $20 which also gives you $20 worth of the in-game currency (ISK?).

That's it.

Dust isn't a game you go buy a cd for. You simply download it from the PS network.

We've really reached the stage where the non-nintendo console companies aren't interested in creating a system from the ground up . Meaning that realistically the PS3 and Xbox franchise really now just run on cut down version of PC operating systems. The whole console model now is just releasing a newer more powerful box running on about the same OS as the previous (a few tweaks and upgrades). You're just buying the upgraded specs.

Realistically there would be zero point in waiting to release dust. Its done in the unreal engine if i remember correctly, tuning it for a more powerful system is definitely a possibility, and would require about the same amount of effort it does to have graphics settings on the eve menu.

There's no point for them to wait unless they're going to fully scrap the whole project and try to license a new engine that they feel the PS4 would take better advantage of.

buy a PS3 (they are seriously cheap, much cheaper than a xbox, you might even be able to get a partial trade in)

The ps4 isn't happening its wishful thinking on the part of the "future is better" mob.

The word from sony (and Microsoft sorta) in 2010 was 5 years of life left. So its 2015 at the earliest for the PS4/xbox Nu-name-here.

If anyone wants a news console go buy a new Wii.

CCP are smart guys, they would't release a title for an obsolete system. If there was any chance the PS4 was coming out, they would delay and migrate or convert to another (PC) format.

I'd guess xmas 2014 at the earliest, probably more like Spring 2015.

And I'd say the PS3 has a great deal of life left in it.

Whenever the PS4 arrives, it's not like *poof* every PS3 suddenly disappears off the face of the planet, is it? Or even, that every PS3 magically transforms into a new PS4.

Of course, if this was an Apple product then all PS3's would be replaced immediately on the day of release of the PS4, in an egotistical emorage of owning something 'obsolete'.

Maybe 2020 it'll die out, but certainly not on the day of the PS4's release.
