Hi, I am savagely annoyed. I get the following error when I start up the launcher "No connection could be made to the content server. Please make sure that your Internet connection is up and restart the Launcher." However I do have an internet connection... obviously. I have had this problem since I started playing EVE but i thought nothing of it because I could play the game none regardless, but now When I try to login the server status gives the following error "incompatible (Protocol)". Now, according to some other forums I read the protocol problem is caused by a need to update the client, which I can't do because of the launcher issue. I must say that for a game in which you pay a subscription the support is shocking, I have played free to play games where people seem to actually care that you can play.

I had forgotten that my Norton 360 had displayed an odd error message this morning.

A quick restart & installation with manual files and everything seems to be good.

They f*cked up the only thing that can fix the Problem... The Launcher. Great deal. Gotta download and reinstall the whole Thing instead of just patching it, or wait for some CCP Grunt to release a manual Download/Fix for the Patch.

Thanks, CCP. Without you i really don't have a f*cking clue what to do with my spare time.

I think I found a workaround. I executed the eve.exe directly from the game folder and not the launcher and it started the new patch update.
If it works please reply.

im not sure if this work around has been stickied .... here goes ...

if your launcher does not update client properly .... or it says client is updated ... but eve does not run ...

1) clear bulkdata
2) off antivirus (some may have to off firewall)
3) off any other internet service (not sure abt this 1)
4) run repair
5) run evefile.eve direct (take note the error) ... not the launcher.exe
6) repeat process 4-5. until evefile does not return a error report and actually runs.

7) return back your other programs to service (ie --> antivirus, torrenters, etc etc)

cheers

Found this fix to my launcher issue in a different thread:

Neok Skywalker wrote:

Got an answer via petition and it works fine now:

1. Delete the Launcher folder which can be found in your EVE Online client folder.
2. Download the launcher installer from the following URL:

http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/launcherInstaller/EVEOnlineLauncher_1_32_tq.exe

3. Once downloaded can you run the .exe file and direct the launcher to your client installation when prompted.
4. Once the launcher installation is complete can you start the launcher using the 'EVE Online Launcher' link which can be found in your clients folder. You should then be able to log into the client as normal. If you notice that your account settings have been cleared, then please try closing the client and also the launcher and then restarting the client. Hopefully they will be available.

I couldn't lauch Eve, everytime I press on PLAY it would launch EveFile.exe and it would show up in the taskbar for a few seconds, then it would close automatically.

By looking at the Administrative events, I noticed that the TeamSpeak plugin TS Overlay was crashing, so I disabled it in Teamspeak and everything was working fine.

Here's the event details:

Faulting application name: ExeFile.exe, version: 2013.2.48.3842, time stamp: 0x511b6a0c

Launcher closes itself soon as I open it. Tried several things, deleting bulkdata allowed the launcher to stay open. Client still wouldnt open though, clicking on the launcher play button just opens more processes. Tried deleting launcher cache and reinstalling, repair tool, still nothing.

The EVE launcher permanently breaks whenever my internet connection drops mid-game. I believe it has something to do with how my campus' network is set up.

http://pastebin.com/XzYyKKrv

My campus network requires a log in once you connect to it. After a while you may be dropped from the network and have to log in again. I was dropped while in-game once and that seems to break the launcher. Even once I reconnect to the internet, the launcher still gives this error. The repair tool has not helped.
I can start the game through exefile.exe but there doesn't seem to be a way to fix the launcher other than completely reinstalling the game.

Edit: Deleting the launcher/cache folder and launching it again seems to fix this problem. Still, this bug should be fixed.

Had problems trying to start the launcher. No matter what I do I can't get the game working. I keep noticing this line pop up.

"TypeError: String indices must be in integers, not str."

Anyone know what this means?

Why is the launcher opening web pages directly into the launcher - again? It was fixed for some time to open web pages to browser, but now it is broken again.

I have also seen this problem. When it occurred I was getting a really useless error message before the launcher started. The message contained this nonsense,

TypeError: string indices must be integers, not str
Locals by frame, innermost last:
Frame "module" in launcher.py at line 56:
NoInternetError = "class 'lib.exceptions.NoInternetError'"
ServerUnreachableException = "class 'lib.exceptions.ServerUnreachableException'"

which makes it sound like there is a problem with my Internet connectivity. I spent an hour fiddling with my firewall settings (even though the Eve client had worked fine the day before with my firewall) but nothing worked. In the end I found the above quoted post, deleted the launcher cache and it started working.

Just one additional note, the launcher cache is located under /Program File (x86)/CCP/Eve/launcher and not where the rest of the cache files are for the Eve client. Just another gift of confusion from CCP.

I hate dealing with software that is this sloppy.
