I am getting this same error after the recent patch (Retribution 1.1). I have tried rebooting, etc. to no effect. Please advise:

I was able to get the repair tool to work by shutting off virus protection for a few mins as mentioned in another workaround, client still wont open.

whenever i try to load the launcher, it says

An unexpected error occured
Please try to restart the Launcher or run the Repair Tool(repair.exe located in your eve directory)

i've tried running it repeatedly, but i keep getting the same message. it also shows something after, though i'm not really sure wha it means. i've tried pasting it here, but it says that i can't post an html.

1. Delete the Launcher folder which can be found in your EVE Online client folder.
2. Download the launcher installer from the following URL:

http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/launcherInstaller/EVEOnlineLauncher_1_32_tq.exe

3. Once downloaded can you run the .exe file and direct the launcher to your client installation when prompted.
4. Once the launcher installation is complete can you start the launcher using the 'EVE Online Launcher' link which can be found in your clients folder. You should then be able to log into the client as normal. If you notice that your account settings have been cleared, then please try closing the client and also the launcher and then restarting the client. Hopefully they will be available.

Do not disable protocol filtering.

Add exceptions for the launcher, repair tool and for the eve executable for the moment.

Disabling it completely leaves your system open for compromise.

This worked for NOD32. Well, we'll see when I quit and reboot again, but I didn't need to reinstall.

Set exceptions
Reboot
Repair
Run.

Thanks :)

In my case solution was clearing all temporary files (in windows vista/7 usually c:\users\%userprofile%\appdata\local\temp ). After this operation repair started sucessfully and I was able to patch game.
