That right there is called FREEDOM. Like I said, it's Ironic as all hell that EVE is a game about freedom of action (with what most MMO players would called a very loose/Laissez-faire set of rules) and yet the forums resemble Soviet Siberia. Once you understand that EVE players generally don't like to be told what to do, you understand why this place is so stale and EVE related subs on Reddit are thriving.

There's another word for that too: Anarchy. Don't get me wrong, I check EVE Reddit out on a regular basis, too (even if a lot of the memes are way over my head). There's probably a place for both, and an improved official forum with a looser set of rules isn't the worst thing that could happen, either.

Players, yes, perhaps. They enjoy shiptoasting, currying favor with partisan mods, mass up/down voting items against their agenda.
Players can make any cancerous forum wherever they want.

But Devs? Thats where the problem lies. Ive seen it happen in too many other games where Devs and self-interested players get too buddy-buddy. The result is invariably a cliche and an echo-chamber.

It is admirable, in all instances, that Devs want to participate and interact with the community.
But there are real dangers there, especially in EVE which famously has the most proficient and conniving AWOXers of any game, ever.

Thats part of the reason the CSM exist, so as to create a community elected representative as first point of contact.
Thats also why this board exists, with its restrictions, so as to enable constructive feedback.

In essence, the Reddit board is (successful) an attempt to draw Devs off this board, to theirs, where the Redditors can autonomously regulate content without CCP restrictions on Dev or player (anonymous or not) participants, in their own interest.

So yeah , I start my day with a cup of coffee and check out what's new.

Save for the couple having a death match with pool toys , the comments here have been great.

Thanks, but I think it applies to the EVE specific Reddit page, as described above, adequately.

No point on which you have refuted, except by this sideline.

I hate to burst your bubble Salvos, while some of what you claim is, in all likelihood, fact, the remainder is actually supposition which by its very nature is not fact.

INB4 ISD post about a rather large clean-up of the thread with a rather large list of broken rules.

While Falcon kinda somewhat announced a new rule set for the future forums, you guys keep doing the job you were ultimately asked to do so I can't fault you on that.

Why bother Falcon? Just shut down forums and make 3rd parties do them like you did with EvE wiki.
As devs you shot your own knee caps. People don't even bother to post feedback in blue threads, similiar reddit ones have twice that much comments.

Is it bad that this is the first thing I thought as well? See you all on r/eve Smile

It's ok to kill people guys, someone else did worse before.

This thread is so derailed by now we can't even see the tracks anymore so who cares right?

Ironically it is also a part of the answer to the OP, so i wouldn't call it a complete derail. The forums are not fun, because you have some people who always derail and you can´t downvote them. At least Lucas and sol projekt are on a break. There are others who take over though, making each discussion quite painful. That is why people don´t like these forums IMO.

Besides these are the official forums, people come here to complain, it is a very negative place generally. And it is the same circle arguments over and over. That is why I prefer platform like Reddit, the negativity is in a better balance with positivie/funny posts there. I frequent GD for a couple of months every half year untill I burn out again due to the type of discussions and negativity.

I am quite surprised though that this has not been locked down or cleaned up... Perhaps this is our new lighting rod thread.... once in a while we are allowed one of those . o7 sweet prince.....

Edit... ninja cleanup while writing. GJ ISD

Alrighty then.

Ill come join you on Reddit in full force.

Lets see if your claims are true.
I doubt it.

Im sure my posts will be downvoted by vested interests, and posts/account deleted by pocket mods.

Lets see if your claim of "freedom" there pans out.

What you don't understand is that wherever you go you will get the same reception, ISD'd to oblivion here or Downvoted to the same oblivion at Reddit, because your communication skills are bad and you are off-putting.

Sorry I put you off, but thats your problem, not mine.
You might want to ask yourself as to why that is.

You claim Reddit offers freedom.
Are you now saying that only applies to those you agree with?

Does my syntax and format offend you?
Are you triggered?

This again just justifies my original statement on the nature of Reddit.
Mass opinion up/down voting of what ypu "dont like".

Where is the freedom in that?
No wonder you evacuated from here, when your person and opinions are so contrived that you need an echo-chamber to support them, rather than them standing on their own with you defending them.

Here, I am moderated by ISD and rules to which I have agreed to.
Yes, my freedom of expression is curtailed, but it is by contract and for good reason, by trained and accounted representatives.

On Reddit, however, where is my freedom of expression?
Mods are not accountable. Up/down voting is mass action against the position of an equal individual.

There is nothing wrong with my communication skills.
There is something wrong with yours, when you cannot accept and deal with differing positions.
