I'd recommend setting the "Download all the resource files" flag in the launcher settings. The launcher will then download everything. Better restart the launcher after changing this setting.

The launcher is stuck on an endless loop of "Installing files" and "Downloading EVE launcher update" - those messages alternate rapidly and there is no progress.

If I close the launcher and restart it, then it downloads the update and closes itself, never to be seen again. After relaunching we're back to square one.

Same Problem here on normal launcher. (Installing steam version worked flawlessly in less then 2 min)

EDIT: Found a fix

So the fix i did was I went in to the folder location (After restarting my computer) (C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE) And started the launcher shortcut, After it just magically disappeared I then started the eve application as administrator. This fixed the problem.

Awesome thx!

Yes, I got that too and at about the same point. However this apparent freeze also happens to me with updates on Second Life which clear cache before restarting, so I knew what to do - go for a cup of coffee. After a while it got going again. Be patient!

Second Life/Firestorm I give a good twenty minutes before giving up and restarting. Second time, it nearly always succeeds.

oo, as I type cache moved, update under way.... Client is ready!

If you got a 7gb file download, then restarting the launcher is the way to go. I had this issue, because I started patching before we had published the correct patchinfo files and purged the old ones, and the issue instantly resolved for me. I realise that you're sorted, but also replying to the person you replied to (as well as anyone else experiencing the 7gb download issue)

I got an installation for Singularity and another one for Tranquillity.
Is it ok to have them both use the same cache location or will this be causing any issues?

Just wanted to make sure, though maybe this is what was being referred to as "multiple EvE installations".

Both Sisi and TQ will be using the shared cache location.

If we select the Download all the resource files setting, will the game do this in the background or will the launcher force the full download and delay launch of the game?

It would be nice if it was Diablo 3 Style, where the game will initially be playable early, but the full texture download happens in the background.

My understanding is without the setting checked, we will not download everything, only stuff in our general area, like adjacent systems and whatnot. Is that right?

Ideally, I'd like to launch the game as early as possible, but still download everything completely after enough time passes.

Yes, the EVE Launcher detected it in your EVE install and is migrating it to the shared resource cache.

As of now, if you choose to download the full set of resources, you cannot log in before everything has been downloaded. We have plans to change this.

If you are going to change this, DO NOT remove the current option, as some will still want to have all the resources downloaded before playing. If you must change it, just add a further option.

CCP Philosophy: If it works, break it. If it’s broken, leave it alone and break something else.

Ah, yes. To clarify: We want to give give you the option of starting to play while the launcher is downloading the full resource set. Rest assured, we will not remove the option to download all the resource files.

Scylla patch file: 29MB - can be copied to an USB stick to use at home "with sub-par internet"

Download all the resource files downloads another 238MB - where are those files stored?
Please tell me you are not asking me to copy 13.7GB / 68,074 files / 257 folders (shared cache folder) each time there is something added to the shared cache...

"Export patch" -> 29MB of (29+238MB) Scylla release. I don't need fast internet for those 29MB but the other 238MB.

"Export last shared cache files" ... missing?

That's exactly what I asked for in devblog comments, every answer was: "Yeah, you will be able to download the release somewhere else and copy it on an USB stick to patch your eve installation at home".

Now... where is it?

Don't forget to change the permissions (give your non administrator account "modify" access) on the SharedData location, otherwise if you run the launcher with your non administrator account it will fail to launch due to permissions errors (which are reported as file not found errors).

Unless of course you're happy to re-setup your overview etc etc and just continue to run eve as an administrator (don't do this).

The patch you export should contain the deltas that were downloaded and applied to the EVE Client binaries (those in the install location).

You can copy the shared resource cache to a portable disk, but there's no way to extract a list of recently added files, without trawling the cache and reading all the file access times. I would imagine what was meant by whatever reply was given to you, was that you can copy that shared cache and use that on other machines, as you wish, but there isn't an 'export last shared cache files' option and I don't think there will be that option, either.

The shared cache location can be seen by opening the settings dialog in the EVE Launcher and viewing the path shown on the Download tab.

As an aside, the full installer is also available for download, but I assume you don't want to copy large quantities of data around, and so 7GB of installer files isn't what you want.

In the event that this separate resource file archive doesn't exist, you could always do something like use rsync (or windows equivalent) to keep an updated copy of the SharedDate on an external drive.
There are plenty of tools around that will only copy modified files/data from a directory tree, so you could patch + download full resources at school/work/wherever, rsync C:\ProgramData\CCP to an external hard drive, then rsync it from that drive to your home computer, only actually copying the changed files.

Thx for your reply.

Pre-Scylla: I opened the launcher at work (thankfully I was allowed to do this), download the patch, went to eve directory and copied the 123456_win.patch file to an USB stick, went home, copied patch to eve directory, opened the launcher and the whole patch was applied without downloading anything (low bandwith + volume limit at home).

Post-Scylla: meh... whole shared cache or nothing. It takes quite some time with USB 2.0 to copy those 70,000 files.

Guess I'll have to find the "don't download at all even if demand" option which won't exist...

But maybe I'll test how many Socket Closed I can force with download on demand... clicking an imgurl link in chat helps a lot to create closed sockets on low bandwith - curious to find out if dod will do the same.

EDIT: Same applies to people running multiple PC/Laptop... copy/paste the whole shared cache within their network instead of just copying a single patch file and let the launcher extract it local. Plenty of room for improvements.

Hi,

I am currently getting this when I try to open my launcher.

I am running windows 8.1
