Update (23:11 GMT): One of the first responses to this news from the game development community comes from Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson, who stated on Twitter that "We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out."

You know this deal is probably a bad thing when developers back away...

Yeap because they go "Full blown Micro$oft" on the indie guys with putting too many restrictions on the deveopment side.

I pray to the wormhole gods that Gaben gets off his mighty throne and takes Valve VR to market.

In other news, EVE Valkyrie is now dead in the water given the majority of EVE's playerbase probably doesn't want to use facebook, as we've seen with EVE gate.

He's already planning that. Its going to happen right after the release of Half Life 3 Sad

Goddamit. If the rift/valkyrie recquires a facebook log in or has intrusive adverts in my VR, they aren't getting a cent from me.

Oh well, guess there's still hope for the valve VR thing.

Id be willing to bet that's EXACTLY how it will go. The best we can hope for is a spammed out launcher we have to sign in thru to play a game on the Oculus.

I'll play the PS4 version and wrap my head with monitors. Done

Screw you Facebook.

I just seen this myself. Makes me wonder if you're going to have to use Facebook to access it, and how much advertising spam you will have to endure to use Oculus.

youll be required to login with your facebook account, and allow facebook to use your accountt o post about the game at their discretion.

also, all your characters will have a CharName@Your_Name_Here account style similar to STO, but it will use your real name.

And then Valkyrie will fail because everyone would rather play VR farmville because theyve been indoctrinated into the facebook cult.

Perhaps CCP knew this was coming and that's what the 20 million dollar asset write off was, seeing as they're Zuckerberg's B**** now.

Seriously though, Valkyrie still has a fighting chance if Facebook integration is optional, because if there's anything that makes me hate a product more than being bombarded with adverts for it, it's having to spam my friends with said adverts myself.

no facebook integration at all. anywhere.

then again, if facebook is written anywhere on the rift itself, i dont think anyone would be able to take it seriously enough to play on in the first place.

For me the Oculus Rift has gone from "Buy it the second its released" to "See how Sony's one is going along"

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

Sony always seems to win not by being better but by avoiding shi**ing all over themselves like their competition.

Sony is the zen master, always standing still and watching as there enemies destroy themselves.

You really think someone would do that? Just log into EvE and tell lies?

I no longer plan to purchase one.

I wouldn't really want my information being sold to whomever offers Zuckerburg the most cash for it. Especially now that it could scan my eyes (biometric data), my face, and who knows what else?

It's also sad to see Valkyrie basically die in the womb thanks to this.

I don't have a Facebook account, so I don't have any personal experience aside from what I have read in the media.

Unfortunately for me though, what I've read in the media is enough to make me pause on buying the Oculus when it's released.

I'm not going to write it off and assume that the sky will fall in because the company is owned by Facebook, but I think I'll wait and see for a while.

They've recently admitted (after being caught) that they sell both personal identity and account information.

The only reason I even have mine anymore is because my wife's relatives would get butthurt if I deleted it, thinking it a slight.
