since CCP, for obvious reasons, didn't linked any forum for this devblog, here's one.

said dev blog: Changes to the EVE Naming Policy

personally, i think this is just ********.....

most "interesting" part:

In-game names may not:

  • Impersonate or parody any employee or representative of EVE Online, CCP, Customer Support personnel or volunteers.
  • Impersonate or parody an NPC type from the EVE game world (i.e. CONCORD or other official NPC corporation or organization members) for the purpose of misleading other players.
  • Reflect, glorify or emulate any real-world group or organization, terrorist society, criminal elements, discriminating organizations or their leaders and figureheads. This includes the use of names of real-world military, political or religious groups.
  • Be obscene, vulgar, sexually explicit, offensive, hurtful, harmful, promote drugs, profane, anti-gay, and ethnically, racially or sexually offensive or impart any real-world hostility toward a specific nationality, race or religion.
  • In-game names include, but are not limited to: Character names, corporation names, alliance names and any other player-nameable item or entity within the game world.

  • why not just remove us the possibility to name our ships then?

this is not eve online anymore this is hello kitty online.

i imagine well the petition about
    Quote:
WTF a guy in hurricane named Sansha Lord killed me, i had NO WAY AT ALL to distinguish him from NPC.....
    that bring this up..... pathetic....

Why? Is it the end of your pathetic scamming alts?

i don't scamm, and i don't like this, i would cut them in half, but there are dozens of pvp situation where you want to name your ship so a perrsonne who deosn't look carefully it's dscan could confuse you with something else, for example.

after this, you would not be allowed to name your ship "rifter" even if it IS a rifter, because:

Its on the launcher, smack right in front of you when you log in. It's also on the news if you just use ExeFiledotExe.

They didn't need to link it since people it actually affects can 1) read, 2) read, or 3) read dev blogs.

    Thats fair enough.

But havent you noticed before that no names are legal in any MMO?

    No living people

    No dead people

    No Fictional People

    No Devs

    Not your name

    etc

Its just a mechanism which allows them to boot you legally without comeback

Mine's fine though. Im not impersonating anyone in that RL MMO people talk about.

This is one of those changes that reminds me of politicians with nothing better to do than think up new ways to make everyone's lives more miserable with ridiculous gotchas that no one expects.

Oh! You were speeding with a pair of slippers in the trunk? Well, that's an extra $50 fine.

Political correctness is an abomination to clear speech with precise meaning and should be taken behind the woodshed and put down like Old Yeller.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

well, since you cannot name your ship with any name based on ingame items.... you would not be allowed to name a rifter "rifter", or cargo container, or stargate(X) etc....

i understand that you are not allowed certain world, if offensive / racist etc... but this go too far

indeed i "just noticed" cause it was brought only a few HOURS ago, this was not there before, go read the devblog:

    Quote:
Also, we have added section 2.c. which states:

“c. No player may use the character name of another player to impersonate or falsely represent his or her identity. Player created corporation and alliance names also fall under this policy, as does any other in-game entity named by players”

Actually I'm waiting for the petition storm that will follow someone noticing all the "Gay" station names in nullsec.

    No. No no no

You arent allowed to IMPERSONATE ingame items

A Rifter is not impersonating a Rifter

But naming your Rifter CCP Mintchip's Rifter would be in violation

Not tha they would enforce it unless you REALLY pissed them off
