Launcher not working? - LOOK HERE

Same issue. I just get incompatible protocol when I try to launch Eve directly.

Just to add, after repair finally ran launcher still wasn't working for me but running the game from exefile.exe did.

Repair tool has yet to run properly for me. You can still get in game though by going to the "Bin" folder and clicking the Eve executable there. The actual client pops right up no problem so stopping freaking out.

Possibly they finally broke Eve with the integration of Dust. Who knows. :)

I'm mostly thinking about how many people aren't going to the forum, and know nothing about how these things work. How many are they? Will they have to fix this if they ever want to play EVE again? This doesn't seem like a good solution - Am I wrong? CCP?

Finally got the repair tool working. Logged in via the exe file in the bin. Let`s hope all goes well. To all other pilots. Hang in there and keep klicking the repair tool!

There is no easy way.

Check your task manager. I had some launcher.exe processes still running and so the repair tool wouldn't update successfully. Kill the launcher.exe(s) --> run repair tool once more.

For some that's not the end of the story, client can be started but get Incompatible (protocol), so still pretty useless, freaking out will continue ....

This isn't true for everyone. I can load Eve directly but I cannot log in because I get an error about an incompatible protocol. So, enjoy Eve while some of us try to resolve our new technical issues.

Patience is the key, thousands of users are most likely hitting the repair tool and overloading the servers. That tool wasnt designed to help everyone all at one time... just a few at a time!

I already did that and killed everything possibly related to EVE in any sense, still the same.

I've followed every piece of instruction here and NOTHING does ANYTHING about it :-/

ran the repair tool, the grey window saying the launcher is messed up still comes up, but upon launching eve everything works

I checked and this was not the case with me but I did have a Remote Desktop Connection running and as soon as I closed that, the repair tool started. Possibly that may also resolve the protocol conflict. I hope I am wrong as I often connect to my desktop from my laptop while playing Eve on my laptop.

FOLKS A LAUNCHER UPDATE HAS BEEN PUSHED!

As of 5 minutes ago CCP Launched an UPDATE!

Run normal launcher and you should recieve the patch to the patch

Agreed we shouldn't be having to find a way to fix it !!
we always have to find a work around when they mess with **** and it breaks and we lose skill time

all the other major games like wow..if something go wrong they fix it ASAP

all I want to do is click login done ....PLAY the freaking game

We are paying for the skill time we are losing right now.

I wouldn't roll your eyes. I'm sure quite a few people just gave up and went about their day.

Anyway, here is my summary of the issues I had and their resolution:

- Couldn't use launcher.
- Went directly to the executable (normally do this anyway).
- Received "incompatible protocol" error.
- Try to run repair tool.
- Repair tool appeared frozen.
- Closed "Remote Desktop Connection" on Win8 and Repair tool immediately started.
- After running repair, went directly to executable (no more errors).
- Logged in, logged out.
- Reopened "Remote Desktop Connection."
- Tried to run from launcher (still broken).
- Went directly to executable (no error).

Summary: Try to run Eve directly and if you don't get any errors, do that until the issue with the launcher is fixed. If you need to run the repair tool, some things may conflict with it; close things you don't need to be using until it starts and then try to run Eve directly until the launcher is fixed.
