How can I use the same settings that I use on my main on all of my characters without taking the time (a lot of time) to set them each up individually."

How It's Done:

1.) Find your settings folder (the following is for windows XP32BIT - Easy to locate if you have something else though)

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME_GOES_HERE\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings

2.) Make backup!! Move backup to desktop or place of preference.

3.) Once backup is made you'll want to remove all the files in the folder except for the following 4: These are the main clients cache and graphics file. If you delete all 4 your client will read as opening for the first time. Delete to start from scratch.
  • prefs - Configuration File
  • core_public__.yaml
  • core_char__
  • core_user__

  • I cant do find these files anywhere on my computer. is it done differently for Windows 7?

By default they're hidden in W7 indeed, for people who don't know how to make hidden files visible, check this site: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/394-hidden-files-folders-show-hide.html - Note that the Protected Operating System Files don't have to be visible.

Also, the Application Data directory is different in W7, as stated here: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/access-windows-7-local-settings-folder/ - So instead of going to
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME_GOES_HERE\Local Settings\Application Data \CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings\

    you go to
    C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings\
    instead when using W7.

    1. It's either "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\" (WinXP, but also largely applicable for Vista/Win7) or just "%LocalAppData%" (Vista and higher)

    3. It's "prefs.ini" also "core_char__.dat" and "core_user__.dat"

    4. Once you logged into game (with relevant character, of course), log out and you'll have the two files you want in the settings folder. Nice and quick, and not involving hopping though the loops.

    x. You can use hardlinks to ensure consistency of your settings throughout your gameplay, but only for character-specific settings and only for characters on the same account.

    1. C:\Users\Az Tek\AppData\Local - %LocalAppData% - any will work. All just different ways of reaching the same folder destination.

    3. Listed those 3 - prefs - Configuration File, core_char__, core_user__ just no extensions.

    4. This ONLY applies if you delete all the files from the settings folder and start from scratch. Assuming there is NO files in the folder and you've NEVER logged into eve with that client before you can in fact do this. But some people like my self can have more than 20 to 30 sets of files in the settings folder for varies toons. In a case such as that you do not want to delete them all and log each in to find the value.

    Will it work? Most likely.
Will it unambiguously point to a specific location? Go guess.

No, you didn't. You listed some random files, that not even present in the directory.

You just told in a previous step to delete all the files except core ones.

    prefs - Configuration File
    core_public__.yaml
    core_char__
    core_user__

These are in the directory. As Linked in the original post. I'm not going to argue with you. lol. If I made a mistake somewhere I made a mistake lol. But I don't see one. Just free guides to help people. But there will always be a troll =D

Also lets stop bumping this with uselessness. Unless you have something helpful for me or the people reading this. Thanks

    There's no file called "prefs" - there's "prefs.ini".
    There's no files called "core_char__" or "core_user__". There's "core_char__.dat" and "core_user__,dat"

As I stated above I did not include the extensions. Not until later in the guide.

UPDATE: Odyssey has brought some new ways to 'file reference'. You can now 'force' the client to read from the same two core_user and core_char files for every character you are running rather than keep updating and copying over. you can also 'host' the file elsewhere but still point to it.

Would you mind describing how exactly this can be done? I didn't find anything about this.
