Are you watching the same one we are? Or maybe I'm not? The one on the front page has no voice-over. Question

This one... not the one from the front page of the new-look site (that's the Crucible one, iirc)

10/10 CCP - I barely play at all these days, though I've kept my accounts and skills running. My copy of Templar One (finally...) arrived today, and between that, and this new video I'm damned tempted to get back in the game...

This is by far the best, and most accurate description you've put together for this game in my opinion, a fine example of 'expectation management', with a focus on long-term development rather than short-term kicks.

Oh - and IB4 the 'E-Uni stealth ads are bad' folks...

I liked the old tutorial. It was pretty funny that you didn't actually complete it until you got podded.

Not the best trailer, but certainly the one that gives the best idea as to what EVE is about.

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

Good video, as others have said. I like that it mentions that you will (should) be flying small ships to start and that they contribute as well.

Only one issue...

"You should join a corp right away."

CCP really misses on the fact that the NPC starter corps (well, at least CAS) have a wealth of information that is available form the old pilots that have never left.

Someone is there that can answer any newbie question and more. Want to mine? here is how. Want to haul, here is how? (you nut job) Want to PvP? here is how. All aspects of Eve's core game play can be explained by players in starter corps. It is BETTER for a player to hang in their NPC starter corp and learn about the game from there.

When a new player starts they don't have a clue as to where they want to go, the NPC corp experience lets them develop on their own, find what they want to do and then they should go and find a corp, since they now know what they want out of the game and can find a corp that matches their goals.

You sure you want advice from people who haven't even left the starter corp?

Every corporation that has an actual community will be extremely helpful towards new players. And the ones actually doing something in an organized fashion will be able to provide advice which contains a whole lot more knowledge and insight.

If anything, every new player should get an EVE-mail about E-UNI on creation, or a similar group like Agony. Get rid of starter corps, they do next to nothing except harbor players too afraid to venture out into the universe.

The last thing you should do is take anything an npc dude (oh the irony) says seriously. While there's some helpful alts here and there's also professional-grade trolls who want to blow you up and life-long carebears who are going to spew a bunch of bullshit about how Satanism is practiced in nullsec or something.

Even a really bad high-sec corp is miles better than an NPC corp.

+1.

I agree, new players can learn a lot from the original starter NPC corp while completing the Tutorial, Career and SoE level 1 Epic Arc. After that new players would have a better idea about game mechanics and researching info, especially when looking to join a player owned corp.

What's funny is seeing a Testy and a Corp jumping WarDec evading character talk sh*t about long time members in NPC starter corps. Most Player owned corporations don't even want to talk to new players until they have at least 5 mill skill points.

While I feel that the new website delivered in some areas and missed the mark in others; the new video is great!

It actually emphasizes things that need to be emphasized without inventing a 'cool factor' that doesn't exist in the game.

Good work CCP.

That's one awesome piece of awesomeness.

Now make the UI look like in the video. I mean somebody actually designed that ui in the video right? Make him UI assistant, damnit.

so you blobbed a bunch of t1 battleships with smaller ships that could have 1v1ed those BSes easily in competent hands?

I fail to see the significance. First, that isn't even remotely an impressive kill. Second, kills are meaningless to this discussion. The primary benefit corps provide are community, friendship and advice - not KMs.
