Well they intended to release it an Xbox as well.

If i understood properly what happened, it seems that microsoft was reluctant to change some mechanism in the way online game are played. Especially with the system of silver/gold account.
And there were also some technical issues on the fact that most of the online architecture will be hosted by CCP.

Anyway, it was more microsoft choice than CCP's. Their loss...

Anyone willing to add or correct something is welcome :)

Microsoft only lets games be hosted on Xbox Live, so CCP couldn't run Dust 514 off Tranquility as its designed.

Microsoft charges for all downloaded content, and requires fees on everything. CCP would not have been allowed to give away free expansions, Microsoft would have made them sell it to us.

CCP made the right move. They stuck to their plans for the game, even if all the console manufacturers didn't get on board.

CCP,
any idea as to when beta keys will go out???
Even a, "in the next few weeks, or a few days" will do for an answer! The silence from you about this is very frustrating.

i second that ^^
And precisions on the NDA so we can have an idea of how much information we would be able to see come out (or use to write articles in my case) when it's launched. Smile
Would you accept the release of articles first presented to you for validation ? I recall it has been done on previous beta testing and would be pretty good i believe to create an active community around the game. Blink

What do you mean i take this too seriously lol ?

This is just a continuation of CCPs long tradition of poor communications.

My feeling is that they are waiting until the discussions with Sony over microtransactions have concluded before starting the beta.

Here's my suspicion. One of the things that recently occured was the recent hiring of a new Chief Marketing Officer, David Reid. His job is to basically oversee the Dust 514 launch from here on out.

As a marketer, he's going to be fiercely picky about CCP's public image, how they communicate, what order things are rolled out in, and what announcements are made to which media outlets, etc.

You're right, the Dust 514 rollout is definitely one of the communication low points since we were spoiled by Crucible. I imagine though that if the new boss is settling it, he's put a temporary halt in plans till he can review them and put his own expertise to work at tweaking the strategy before signing off and moving ahead.

It's in his best interest to try to fire this up as soon as possible - especially now that its his fault if we get too pissed off in the mean time Twisted I imagine he'll want to make Hellmar happy and get this circus underway.

But yeah. WHERE ARE OUR BETA KEYS, CCP???

It will be interesting to see what sort of marketing campaign David comes up with. I quite liked the 'you're not in Azeroth anymore' approach he took to Rift's launch. I wonder if we'll see a similar tactic, where the marketing campaign directly confronts and dimisses the competition. Perhaps we will see some trailer with a non-dust player talking about how l33t he is due to the large collection of hats he has amassed.

I agree that it's disapointing that we seem to be returning to the communication problems that we are used to (hopefully this is not the case, and it's more due to having to bring the new guy up to speed).

This is why I'm pretty optimistic about Dust 514 - the fact that it will be more hardcore than the other traditional shooters. Even the "hardcore" titles like Call of Duty will look like child's play in comparison. Dust 514 will gain a reputation for being where the real l337 gamers go and become popular for that reason.

I hope this is a joke cause i just puked a little.
Plain and simple : There's no hardcore FPS on PS3 atm. And if there were to be, it wouldnt be COD.

Any game offering assisted aiming online doesn't deserve to be considered as an FPS imo. Hello, the game is mostly about aiming so what's the point if you're helped on that ?

But yeah, like you i feel Dust could feel a gap. Last gameplay vid had a huge MAG feeling, if CCP was to be influenced, there's no better choice.

Hilmar has been making some interesting posts on twitter. Recently he said D514S153 in response to a question on when the Beta starts. Some have interpreted it to mean that the beta will begin on the 15th of March

Sad that it's not being released on PC. Makes me wonder why not?
Not sure to what degree DUST is tying in with EVE but the interaction between macro and micro scales in the same universe are interesting indeed.
EVE is a long term game that has lived for nearly 9 years? Assume it will live for at least 9 more. What will have become of DUST by then? What will have happened with the PS3? Surely the PS4 must have been released by then?
Would be sad to lose this interaction just because DUST wasn't released to the PC where it would've the chance to grow alongside EVE.

Theyve said multiple times in interviews that when/if PS4 was released they would simply code a dust client for PS4 that links to the same servers and carry on as normal.

Oh :o
Should've done some research before I posted maybe ><
My prophecy of doom seems less ominous now :(
Still, sad to see it for PS3 only as I have no plans on getting one :(

Well, stay in your space ship, watch, and if the game is a success you can get a PS4 in a couple of years ^^

Hey did You just call COD a HARDCORE fps? You are joking, right? It's a kiddie shooting game aimed at a MASS population.
Definitively not a hardcore.

There is virtually no hardcore gamers on a consoles. Ppl that call themselves that, usually spend great deal of money, time and
are passionate about gaming to a point they will learn their hardware and software so they can improve experience even by a little bit.

Buying lazy boy and hooking up HDMI to a big TV with basic 1920x1080 resolution is a bare minimum.

Word on the street is that you should check back tomorrow.

Edit: Best guess is that the page will indeed confirm that you have registered for the trial as promised on January 10.
Doesn't mean you are in the Beta though.
