How to get more people to Vote for CSM

This seems obvious, so perhaps I just couldn't find the thread that suggests this:

Add a screen at login where you can vote for your choice for CSM (and have a link to more info about them). Include a button to skip voting (but the screen comes back at the next login) and a button to abstain from voting (so the screen doesn't come back until next year).

Perhaps it's too late to code such a screen for this election, but making it easier to vote and harder to forget about when you need to vote are the low hanging fruit for improving voter turnout. After that we can work on getting better candidates :)

The abstain button needs to also ask why.

As I've stated elsewhere, voter apathy may be the result of either disinterest (because of relevance) OR because many think the system itself is flawed.

Voting itself is a no-brainer.

The selection process however is epic-fail and I'm astonished that people call it "democracy".

If a character on the account logs on during the time period when election is active the account must vote or abstain. If not the character with highest SP's on the account is biomassed after the election.

I'm happy to accept gifts, especially when they don't melt after a week, but I doubt that type of incentive would improve the elections. Giving away a micro-plex or some worthless aurum might work, though.

I am all for semi-forcing the vote... just simple query box on login:

"you have not voted yet, would you like to get more info about csm, candidates and vote now?"
"Yes, not now (ask me again), not at all" (x days remaining for poll to close)

The CSM is fine at what it was created as. A token gesture by CCP to placate the forum community.

It shouldn't matter if anyone votes or not because CCP should be paying them lip service and ignoring them.

The problem is, though, is that CCP got lazy and actually started implementing some of the stupid ideas this bunch of entitled children were spewing constantly.

I blame CCP for all the problems with the CSM. Please, guys, just go back to ignoring them like you should be and all will be well again.

Please keep posts vaguely on topic instead of just spewing vitriol against CSM and CCP. If you want to complain about them or how much your back hurts because you've been bending at the waist or whatever else bothers you please do so somewhere else.

if you can forget or don't want to bother to visit special sites maybe you aren't needed to be asked anyway?

Following that line of reasoning we should make it as difficult as possible to vote, so only the dedicated few can navigate the labyrinth of captchas, hidden links, and web pages that only respond for one minute out of every day.

Or we could decide that the CSM should represent as much of the active player base as feasible, even those who are lazy or forgetful or think the CSM sucks.

I'm going with the latter for now, but if you want to advocate the former, be my guest.

Care to elaborate how to achieve this ? By being even more lazy, forgetful or sucking in general, as CSM member ?

Those elected represent the ideas they espouse, and the voters choose which candidate most closely agrees with their own ideas, and in that way the elected represents the voter (albeit imperfectly).

The elected does not represent anyone simply by taking on the physical, mental, or social traits of the voters they represent (you don't need a broken back to represent someone with one, and you don't need to be lazy to represent lazy people). This idea can be confusing because people very often choose to be represented by those who look and talk like themselves, but it's certainly not a requirement.

I don't think you should have something like CSM for a game period, the devs should be taking their time and listening to all players and simply observing what goes on in the game or playing it themselves so they know what we're on about if we say somethings broken here or it's being exploited like hell here.

That's what every game developer used to bloody do and I don't know why people are doing things differently now, stop being so damn lazy!

I support this as long as there is a "None ofthe Above" option!

The only end-game content in EVE Online is the crap that makes you rage quit.

reason is simple: if such a easy and fast procedure as press 1(!!!) link on Eve client startup screen, read some amount of text and press 1(!!!) button is too complex/long/boring for some person how can we wait from that person reasonable choose? Let's say you give him 1click procedure with pictures. I'm 99% sure he will randomly press some button and forget about his choice next second. And his choice will affect MY game. What?

CSM is supposed to help the game to become better. It needs to see problems, possible solutions, new desirable features.... This is important for us all. And i personally don't want some random people in CSM.

In RL we have some limits for people who can vote. And i think current situation gives this minimal amount of work needed to ensure we will have reasonable votes.

I will only vote for the CSM if there is an option to vote for the removal of the CSM and if greater than 50% of people choose this option then there is no more CSM.

Every democracy that has ever existed has suffered this problem. If you want to have serious input you have to learn the mechanics and then use them to your advantage.

Yes, I really do want the vote more thinly spread and people you would consider morons elected. You have a strong enough voting block to choose the CSM chair no matter what, there's no reason to keep making people jump through hoops to vote just so Goons can control multiple seats and drown out every dissent.

I think Mittens has pushed through a lot of positive changes, but if this Null-Sec only CSM that speaks with one voice continues CCP might as well disband the rest of the CSM and hire Alexander as a consultant.
