I don't understand the deal with spicy foods. Even when I eat the spiciest of them in large amounts,there is nothing to notice afterwards.

(Also, for some uknown reason, "chorizo" is also slang word for a thieve...)

I'm having a great day, despite the fact that I have to be at work in 8 hrs.

On Thursday, 10 days ago while traveling to work in my automatic 1997 Honda Prelude with 167k miles, it starting acting weird. Before I get into that story here's a little bit of personal info.

I'm a driver who has a lead foot, meaning I view traveling around 80 to 85 mph as cruising. I also dart in and out of traffic too. Yeah, I'm one of those drivers.

Anyway, while I was traveling to my job in Torrance, CA from Riverside, CA, doing around 80 mph, all of a sudden my car shuts off like someone flipped a switch off, no check engine light, no sputtering, no nothing, just off. As it's starting to slow down, about a minute later all of a sudden it's back running again, smooth as silk. As I get closer to work, about 15 minutes later, it does it again. And again. Each time the interval between shut offs is getting shorter.

I decided to exit the Freeway in Long Beach and as I turn onto the street from the offramp, the car shuts off again, only this time it doesn't kickstart back up again due to traveling slow. Also I notice the Power Steering and Power Brakes aren't working either. So I make it to the side of the road and go to start it up, it turns over and revs up, then as I let go of the key from start to the run position, the car dies like before, as if it had a shut off switch on it. I tried it about 4 or 5 times before it stayed running and I proceeded the rest of the way to work.

After work I started driving back home and it does it multiple times again. On Friday I try it again and it does the same thing again. Only this time it does it also while sitting at a red light on city streets. So when I get back home I start researching the Internet for a clue to the problem. After a while I find out that my car had a Manufacturer Recall done on it in 2003 for an Ignition Switch problem which exhibited the same symptoms. One of the Honda forum boards said to call the main Honda Headquarters Recall hotline and see what they say.

I called and customer service said I will have to do a Diagnostic Check first which costs $130 to rule out any other issues that might be causing the problem. If the Recall item is defective again, they will fix it for free. They also said there was a second Recall item which I should check that was done in 2006 for a faulty Ignition Interlock System. Basically when you shut off the car with the transmission set in any other position other than Park, the key can be removed and car can roll causing harm to you or others.

Well I checked and sure enough it also exhibited that symptom as well. Honda Customer Service got my info since I'm the 3rd owner and updated their records on my car as well as the millage amount and told me to set up an appointment with a Honda Service center which I did on Saturday. Unfortunately they couldn't look at it til Tuesday morning. I left the car there and later Tuesday afternoon they called and verified the Recall items that were replaced years ago were once again defective.

They called me everyday to keep me informed of their progress and on Friday afternoon they said the car was fixed and ready for pickup. I went there today, Saturday morning, expecting to pay the $130 for the Diagnostic Check and to my surprise, they said I didn't owe them anything.

I took the car for a test drive from Riverside, CA to Buena Park, CA, then back to Riverside again and it drove excellent. Not a single problem at all. So yes, I'm having a great day due to getting major work done on my car for the best price of all, FREE. Now it's time for me to go to sleep for work tonight. Talk to you all later.

It's a Honda Prelude, not a Kia. 400.000 km is a good average lifespan for a Prelude, specially if they've been maintained by the book at officialy licensed shops. And anyway, if anyone was to rig the counter, would be to make the vehicle look younger... not older, IMO.

Unless I have lost my count, we're about to turn another page...
