Up/down-voting exists on Reddit, primarily due to the lack of moderation/rules vs the overwhelming, incessant flood of shiptoasting.

The mods cant handle the volume of shiptoasting, so they outsource it to "down/up" voting instead.
Its a cheap and expedient recourse, but is NOT moderation, it is opinionated censure.

As to why Devs seem to prefer Reddit, thats up to CCP to ask their employees.

-The lack of direct CCP oversight of their behavior there.
-That Reddit moderators defend them like Guest Gods.
-The sycophantic adulation by players trying to curry favors/influence.
-Dealing with significant ingame entities whom have chosen to move their weight to Reddit.
-Reddits largely "140 character" nature, where posts are shorter, and their prominence is defined by the mob.


If you would have quoted/read the whole post I've already said why the devs are on reddit. They want to reach as many players as possible with their communications. They don't want to have to write a bunch of posts all over the place. Its very simple and no conspiracy theories needed.

I think you are projecting with your 'heuristic deductions'. I doubt CCP employees really get any kind of power trip out of talking to us players. Realistically, they will enjoy showing us the results of their work, and they will also get annoyed with us always wanting more.

Your reasoning for the up/down vote system is backward. It is not in place because of the volume of posts, it is in place specifically to allow that volume of posts. You continually say crowd moderation is not moderation, again and again, incessantly. I'm going to use your own tactics against you; up/down voting IS moderation, as explained many times.

edit: Moderation on Wikipedia a quick link that backs up what I'm saying. Moderation can be either supervisor moderation (as here now), or distrubuted moderation (as on reddit).

Underlined the important part, a big factor on why things are the way they are.

You guys can be in denial about it because you don't personally like reddit, but that doesn't change the facts of the situation. Right now you can go to R/EVe and click on the post about the probing changes.

At this point it wouldn't be any loss if they actually did that. All the info already comes from other sources, and that info comes easier than what it does here.

I never said I don't like Reddit or that I prefer the EVE Forums - I use both for different reasons. Definitely more whining here, but lots of fluff in both nonetheless. About the only venues I don't frequent are themittani.com and evenews24.com because both have become propaganda platforms.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Please, don't give them ideas. CCP already have a habit of abandoning their own things in favor of letting someone else do it, see evelopedia. EvE app developers have been far too nice to them for too long.

You're right, sadly the only option would be to report the thread and hope a mod locked it, thereby ending all discussion on the topic. I'm not doing that, because I want to see where the thread goes, but it highlights what I've been saying all along.

I can't be the only one who notices the irony here. A guy (Salvos) defending these forums (and claiming that the ONLY reason people use those other venues is because of some conspiracy) while displaying EXACTLY that which makes these forums suck Twisted

On a related note, it's easy to see why DEVs post more elsewhere. Here Developers are abused relentlessly, accused of all forms of malfeasance and incompetence, and generally subjected to bullshit. The only thing that can be done is to have ISD/community team guys 'clean up' the worst of the abuse.

At sites like Reddit , the community itself does this, any assholery against a developer who has taken the time to comment and interact with the community is downvoted into oblivion almost instantly, no need to wait for a moderator. Here we have no such power, all we can do is make a report and wait.

No, it refutes what you've been saying all along.

Its up to individual persons what content they provide.
Rules only peripherally delineate those.

Its your own responsibility if you post good or crap content.

However, on Reddit, that doesnt apply, because if enough people "dont like" it, its gone.
If enough people "like" it, its suddenly at the top.

Content there is subject to popular/mass opinion, not its validity.

For example:
-If I had posted the crap above on Reddir, they would love it, cos they want more people on Reddit.
-They love posts that lick their buttholes and support their own interests, and up-vote them accordingly.
-If Ì posted on reddit, "reddit is best" vs "reddit is crap", which do you think will get more support?
