In other news, please update the OP so I can read whatever happened in this thread. Like **** am I reading 16 pages of internet arguments.

No specific details have been given yet, the OP contains all relevant info to date....The other 16 pages are random arguments, etc as people waste time waiting for an actual update...

  • When you are half AFK.
  • You have lots of friends to chat with.
  • You are in the middle of a sweet episode of teen mom. (Janel is particularly hilari-bad @ life for example)
  • You have a 30 pack that aint gonna drink itself.
  • You have a blueprint that requires A LOT of specific minerals RIGHT NOW (and you dont wanna spend isk to get them) and will result in you making gobs and gobs of money.

  • Or if you are a multi-boxer, you can clear a belt in 30 minutes with 4 hulks and an orca.
Even in high-sec, you are doing about 100m if you know where to do it, and in a quiet system.

That is only 20m per account per half hour - and that is under IDEAL conditions, and after sinking a solid 1.2 billion isk into ships up front.....You won't even break even until you've done it for 12 hours, and you'll have to continue an additional 2 hours to pay for every time someone ganks a hulk, plus an additional 10 hours per month to pay for your subs....

I'm not saying its not doable, and if you enjoy it go for it....but its not exactly the peak of efficiency there.....

edit: numbers based on your claim that you make 100m per belt, and clear said belt in half an hour - I have my doubts but I've never done it so I'm taking your word for it on that.

Also, one would think you would rather rapidly run out of quiet belts to farm with this method....at least if you are aiming to make any money rather than just breaking even...

A few comments on multi-box mining.

    1) 5 accounts is not a lot

    2) Covetors cost a lot less than hulks and mine almost as much

    3) If you find a quiet system or mine mission space - and pay attention - you are less likely to EVER lose a ship

    4) Once you've paid for your ships you're done with that investment.

    5) Subscription fees matter if the cost of your accounts amounts to a lot of money for you - otherwise it doesn't.

    6) And of course ... last but by far the most important - every second spent mining is a second not running missions.

Now ... as for being an industrialist ... as I said some where else recently ... possibly in this thread ... for people who've got their business up and running ... it may be a better use of their playing time to spend it running their business rather than out there producing raw ore. Some of those people got to where they are by mining and have large fleets, either of their own characters or from the corporation they are in. Some of these people elect to sell their ships as they no longer use them. Others mine part time, partially for the fun of it and others still mine a lot.

As an industrialist - all those accounts come in handy for running more planets, more research agents and submitting more jobs all while exploiting the market in more locations across EVE.

Trying to compare what one player makes as opposed to another is a difficult and largely worthless activity. What matters is - how much money you make yourself - and what you can do given your play style and goals - to increase the success of your efforts. When you try to come up with some kind of ISK/hr. comparison between two players - there are to many variables to make the comparisons worth while. Each has different playing conditions, different skills, different goals, different definitions of ... such as the term ISK/hr - and - what they did once may or may not approximate what they do all the time. Every day is a different day.

As said though - what really matters is that you are having fun. Different people have fun different ways.

If someone else wants to go out and jump through some NPC's hoops ... "Fetch Salve for my Sister!", "Kill those people who didn't show proper respect for my research project", "kill those environmental terrorists", "kill that blasphemer", "kill these pirates", "kill those pirates", "kill these other pirates too" ... fine. Most MMO's are made up of quests where some NPC runs your life for you and you jump at their beck and call. These orders from your NPC boss are called "missions" here in EVE but you're still doing the same thing as if you were off in some other game running quests - you're just blowing up space ships with futuristic weapons instead of using swords and sorcery - but you're still some NPC's lackey.

If you find that fun - then go for it.

The thing I resent is that while mission runners do have a choice about not mining - I don't have a choice about running missions. If I want to raise my standings with some NPC entity - I'm stuck with running missions ... often the same missions ... over and over and over and over again ...

It's not that bad. If it was I'd go play another game (I came from Planetside) but I can endure running missions so I"m still here building my business.

As for making money - the best way to make money - is Trading. I have one character that is my trader alt - and that one character makes the vast majority of the money I have coming in. If I liked trading - I could make much, much more than I'm making now - but I don't like doing that either. Again ... I don't really mind all that much ... but I'm doing about all the trading I want to do - so I'll never be one of the big money men in EVE - but since I'm having fun doing what I'm doing - then that doesn't matter. For me ... personally ... what I get out of a game like EVE - is understanding how the game works. So I like to do a lot of different things - just for the sake of understanding how they work. Other people are going to have a much different approach. I don't care if I make a lot of money. I make enough to do the things I want to do - and that's all that really matters.

If someone else wants to play the game differently than I do - what the hell do I care? I don't give a **** what they do.

If someone thinks I'm stupid for playing the game differently than they do - what the hell do I care about their opinion anyway?

The only thing that keeps me from playing the game more like I'd like to than like I do - is RL interference in my gaming ... but since RL > EVE ... nothing I can do about that ... so I'm not going to worry about it. Worrying about things you can do nothing about is - a big waste of mental effort ... better to be thinking about the things I can be doing and having fun doing that.

So I wondered what it really was like during Hulkisissydom, so I took my battleship into progressively lower security space to see what would happen, took me days of running low security mining mission before somebody actually took me on, and then it was taking so long for him to kill me that I just logged off and came back a few hours later to find my pod still there, had to fly back on auto pilot through at least 8 low sec systems before somebody killed me. One Billion ISK well spent, most pilots that came into my mining mission locations turned tail and ran when they found my battleship mining. My conclusion is that most participants of Hulkisissydom are cowards who run from a little bit of resistance. I laugh out loud and feel quite safe now.

What on earth does any of that have to do with hulkageddon participants?

Those guys are the big tough "real 1337 PvPers" of low-sec space...not the "cowardly high sec 'PvPers'" who gank hulks....

Also, to be fair to the denizens of low sec, your mining BS probably DID seem an awful lot like hot-drop bait....which I imagine is why most of them ran away instead of engaging....
