I offered just now.

My approach would be vastly different and far more immersive.

I'm not yet convincede you read whole posts. ^_^

I, in fact, do.

Your approach could be useful I agree.

Just sometimes there isn't a definitive answer one way or another, the statement seems closed ended, or the answer is along the lines of 'if you want.'

To answer each of your points,

Yes, that is alot. I used almost all the characters lol.

I do try to do things, but it's..... not always quite so easy.

You can if you would like. Would be appreciated, but I myself will be busy here soon with things. I'm pretty much only still awake right now because of Eve time clocks.

It's not a bad approach, and if you would like to try it this weekend is a good weekend to, being a Steam free weekend and all.

Once again Logi and ECM dunked a GF and caused me to agree the game play in Eve just isn't engaging, it's dull and predictable.

Your pessimism about that fight is probably matched by the positivity of your opponents that bought in the logi and ecm. They probably think Eve is awesome.

All balanced.

A bit more step by step direction for starter missions would be a great idea. I certainly remember trying to figure out what to do next. Don't think in terms of just gaining new young players. I started at 49.

Another area is public behavior. You often see it right here on this forum. I remember reading through various discussions trying to learn about the game and thinking what a bunch of jerks and jackwagons. Thankfully I joined a nice starter organization and met some really fun people. I've also found much of the community in game to be friendly folk who want good game content.

You just have to take into account the following:

Normal person + audience + anonymity = total jackwagon

In E-Uni I've run across a number of newbros who were just about to quit prior to joining. It's very easy to go down a path in this game that leads to dissatisfaction, i.e. some newbro friends get together, start a corp in hi-sec, get war hammered, then get frustrated and quit. Changing the game is not the answer. Providing a little more direction and understanding of various consequences would be helpful.

Nothing wrong with ganking or being a pirate. Myself and corp mates would be happy to help someone get started down that path if that's where they want to go.

well, no offense, but judging from your reaction it does not look like you predicted it to happen.....

This is a great topic and lots of good points were made!

I try to research the brought up points and some possible solutions for that.

Yesterday checked out that system of CAS and tried to reach some new players.
Its a feeling like all of them are alts..

To be honest. Thats a problem. Its a problem for those wo want to help new players. Its a problem for the recruitment of new corp members. You can easily get trolled or get a spy or ******* into your corp.

I will come to that point later.

Now I will do some missions to get a closer look. Its been a while since I did them.

Now I want to summarize the major points that were brought up here:

1. New Eden is fully explored, there are no unknown systems/regions to discover on the map

2. Wormholes should be more dynamic/less predictible

3. EVE has no story/EVE has no story that could teach new players the game mechanics

4. People are not told what the sandbox in eve means entirely

5. Missions are often generic and boring, the same about the interaction with agents

6. Escalations should be in the same systems

7. Apart from corporations, there is not enough cooperation between players

8. NPC Corps are a bad place for newbies

9. PVE is generic as hell, therefor equally boring as simple missions

10. Some newb corps get wardeced to death

11. Some PVP players do not respect PVE players, even harassing them because of that intentionally

12. Ganking

13. Gate camping

14. There is no secure place for newbies

15. No social places for just hanging up for players

16. "EVE aint able to recruit younger players. And thats what EVE needs... Young players... most of EVE players is old farts With a bad divorce..."

I'm already spamming WoW with information about the new f2p system. The new xpac spawned giant spaceships allover the place filled with demons so they should feel right at home with you people here.

Has no one considered that, the community at large is to blame?

HTFU, go back to WoW, can I have your stuff? Ring any bells? I mean seriously, I know of no other game that has an entire organization where it's sole purpose is to prey on the games most vulnerable. And besides protecting oneself, there's not much you can do about it. Scammers are rampant, and that is basically targeted towards new players.

I understand that all these things are part of EVE's appeal, but they are also a detriment. EVE weeds out the dumb, the gullible, the non-committed, and those that don't have much free time. The problem is after all those people are gone, there aren't that many left.

In the end, I think EVE is it's own worst enemy. Internet space ships is serious business, and sometimes, far too serious to be fun.

I haven't the slightest idea of how to fix the player retention problem, far smarter minds than mine have tried. I hope they are successful, as I do love this game, while also hating it.

THe premise of this post is wrong.
It matters little getting people ingame if you can't keep them here.

What you need is to analyze graphs of which schools new players are most likely to join and provide them with a friendly community that makes them want to stay in the game.
From there they can go wherever they like they just need a reason to stay is all.
An up to date information repository for new players not just about game mechanics and videos by CCP mimic but something like an Eve wiki for people to look up stuff about ingame would be a useful something. (the only useful one i found was in german....it even had all the drone unrated sites and escalations documented! O_o)

I agree the player community has added to the problem but the main root goes back to CCP.

CCP has encouraged that type of behavior for a long time, both here in the forums and in the game. Hell, most of the game changes they've done in the past few years has been a major contributor to declining log in numbers. CCP let things get way out of control and now they're reaping what they've sowed.

I agree that CCP promoted behavior that they thought would draw new players to the game due to its harsh nature but I think many in the community have taken it to new levels for many reasons other than wanting to essentially grief other players.

The Kill Mail and resulting Kill Boards promotes shooting anything that isn't a declared friend.

Hi Sec has become essentially the most dangerous space to live in, where these new players are trying to grasp the game for far longer than the free trial period.

The nature of Corp theft has resulted in very stringent recruitment policies that can throw the uninitiated way off.

The so called "hard core" Pvpers hate of anything they can call a Carebear certainly doesn't throw down the welcome mat fore those who only have a few hrs a week to enjoy the game, especially if they are new.

So, I blame CCP for allowing the Hard Core players to drive many away from the game by their over-the-top Pvp bravado.

This thread, especially the last couple pages, is the perfect example of what's wrong with the game. It's that people don't know what a game is.

look at all these posts talking about how unfriendly people are, about how the community chases people off etc. That's the same thinking CCP has displayed for the last 5 years. And it's wrong.

Just like no one wants to see a movie where everyone gets along, a game that tries to ease people in and protect them when they get in is doomed to fail.. Like movies, Games are about conflict and then being able to take pride and enjoyment out of defeating those conflicts.

The most conflicting thing in EVE is people. When EVE had fewer restrictions on the folks who screw with people, the game grew, and that was no coincidence.

CCP has killed a lot of conflict in the game. They've made it easier for people to get comfortable. They've come down hard on the people (you can call them ass-hats if you like) who made the game interesting to play, because you weren't just playing against npcs, you were avoiding ass-hats while playing against people. it made getting the loot MEAN SOMETHING, now it's just handed to you, just like in real life.

A game is entertainment, we are all here to be entertained. You don't entertain people by being nice to them, you entertain them by kicking their butts and generating emotion, in this case the emotion of "ouch, now Im gonna kick your butt back" Just like well meaning parents who shield their kids from conflict as they grow up (then wonder why those kids have zero real world coping skills as adults and thus never leave home), CCP and too many well meaning folks have tired to wrap new players in wool.

It doesn't work, if you want to help a new player, don't coddle him, don't protect him, kick his ass. You won't just be having fun, you will be helping him stay in the game and helping keep EVE alive.

Wow, everything in this post is just wrong.
Along with CCP's narrow-minded vision of HTFU, Wrecking Machine, Killing Is Just A Means, Keep Clicking hubris pertaining to the game, the type of mindset portrayed here is definitely a contributing factor to why Eve has an exponential decline of player numbers over the past few years.
