You just think, therefore it must be so, despite the numbers and evidence that has been put out by CCP over the last 2 years. Multiple pieces of evidence.

Well as per my earlier post, just because we think something doesn't make it so. CCP have tried to verify the belief that ganking is detrimental, both to new player retention and longer term. In both cases they have failed and they have said so.

What one survey on a very specific sample, get away with you. Nope its not a case of thinking, its a case of having experience in doing this sort of analysis in RL. And CCP do not ask if the players were ganked and if that is why they de-subbed, so they have to look at that data to select a sample that had been ganked and make comparisons, which is why his statement was so vague. Now if you are unable to work that out, that is your issue not mine.

Except you well know there has been more than one study.

None of them match your view, so you just dismiss them. That's pretty idiotic.

He can't touch you when AFK, so he's not getting content either. Can't shoot anyone or make ISK while cloaked, the last time I checked.

That same stupid line yet again, I want to kill the blighter, can't get him to expose himself to risk if he is sleeping or at work and that is all I care about. So you would not be against an AFK flag then.

But can't you just warp around and make bookmarks and according to you, the bookmarks will be made is exactly the same place as the cloaker?

Didn't you say that just a couple of weeks ago?

Like I said you are trying too hard, players who know the game understand exactly what I was talking about, those that don't try to come over as smug superior and fail, they also say things that I did not say, for example I never said I landed on the same place as the cloaker and decloaked him, but certain people decided that is what I said, like you just did.

As per my earlier post, go back to Fanfest 2014 and 2015 and Eve Vegas 2014.

There have been several presentations and posts on player retention, as well as on new player experience. There have been multiple posts in the forum, reddit, tweetfleet slack and twitter by several devs.

It's all been talked to death here in the forums and no matter what side you sit on, the one consistent conclusion that is supported by everything CCP has not found a problem with ganking affecting player numbers.

But player retnetion and new player experience is not the same as a specifc look at the affect of ganking on a small and imo irrelevant group in terms of ganking that is taklen wildly out of context by gankers to say look we benefit the game, so as I said its not relevant.

Who is more likely to quite after a gank. An older/longer term player or a new player? Intuitively I'll go with the latter. If such players are not inclined to leave the game after being ganked....at the very least ganking has little to no impact on player retention.

Here is an idea...maybe if the data we do have suggests it has no impact we should heavily discount gankers who say, "We benefit the game," and point to that evidence. At the same time, people who say ganking causes people to leave should also be summarily dismissed.

Actually its not the newbie, its the one who just got himself into a Exhumer and sees it blown up, having stretched to get into it, I came across a few of them that lost almost all their net worth and the progress put back to almost zero, it was especially important when mining ships had no tanks, so they were angry at CCP for buffing destroyer damage and not adjusting mining ships tanks. It is all a question of timing. I am not so sure of the impact on freighters, though I did find a couple who were very angry at CCP because they were bumped for hours and raged over their crap mechanics. Its really a question of whether they felt CCP had the right balance.

Do you not know what the rolling eyes icon means? Seriously? Here, I'll be pedantic: sarcasm is when one uses irony to show contempt for an idea. Eye rolling is often a display of contempt. I was being contemptuous of what I wrote--i.e. I was being sarcastic.

And my post, while clearly sarcastic was along the same vein as your non-sarcastic post. Which is just as stupid. Deamnding to be able to kill people who are AFK and cloaked is about just as dumb as demanding shooting people who are AFK In station. Both present little danger and neither add nor detract from the game experience.

Oh, and an AFK flag? Yeah, negative on that one too. Free intel is bad mkay?

How about if that is an observatory, its not free if someone can blow it up is it?

Also I am talking about wasting my time playing against someone who is not at his keyboard, I thought that was obvious, setting baits, pretending to be an easy kill etc., all wasted effort because he is not even at his keyboard. I am playing against someone not even playing.

Ah I see Drac has pulled the "you're trying too hard" gambit out of his relatively empty bag of tricks; going by past experience that generally means that somebody has pulled him up on the difference between how he thinks things work and how they actually work.

I see he's still bleating on about "scam" courier contracts too, IIRC as far as he's concerned over collateralised contracts are a scam but he has yet to explain how they're a scam.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Player retention is better when the PVP earlier.

Getting ganked and cleaned out in that process is not PVP. Yes it's PVP for the people who can't handle nullsec and come to highsec to gank targets that can't shoot back, but from the perspective of the victim, it was not PVP.

(que the gaslighting and acting all coy about it from gankers, part of the meta jollies)

I have for years suggested that if you want the PVP route to be some means of retaining players, then someone who actually cares about the game must be the one who gets to define what that PVP is. That of course would have to be someone in development but at the least we get to elect CSM in hope they are not of that sort of player who likes to farm kills in hope they will high-five themselves when EO is too long a niche game and finally goes into "end of life" stage.

You know where this would be going.

But where else do we see everybody thinking their narrow view is the total and absolute truth and any different view is automatically wrong and evil and bad? I expect nothing less from solipsistic and deeply narcissistic post-moderns.

No matter what's said in this thread, someone in CCP is working on player retention and the tears of everybody who already gets it wrong are going to taste the same.

This entire thread is a whine thread BTW.

Maybe it's time to stop whining and offer up solutions?

If PVP is how players are retained, then it's time to get the noobs into is ASAP. Were it up to me I would have NPC corps wardeccing each other.

Sometimes you talk sense and some times you are an arrogant idiot.

If I am bad why did I continue to rat and make ISK when I had people actively hunting me in system, if I am bad why do have I so many kills on cloaky campers, including having a Badger on a Tengu kill, if I am bad why have I never lost a carrier ratting when I used it an awful lot at periods including when I had cloaky campers in system. The you are bad throw away line is used by losers who have no idea in the main, you of course being Executive Outcomes neutral freighters on the no gank list, I guess that makes you less bad, but you no longer have any space, does taht make you bad, does your low participation in Imperium activities makes you bad, does your inability to form a competent alliance fleet make you bad? There are so many throw away bad comments you know.

He may be AFK, or his buddies may be AFK, or he may decide that there are too many around and he won't risk it.

Suppose I use a new toon and inject him, how easy is that to work out? Of course I use corp changes, kill boards and the stuff and their actions around DT being the most important, state the obvious. But you see I don't AFK cloaky camp, though I have done so in the past, and in any case people can quite easily work out my times by my killboard and corp changes and posting times on the forums, its not difficult on actual used characters is it.

I think you like others are trying too hard....

New player experience and player retention are not about how ganking affects players, you really are one hell of a idiot. The only specific comment on ganking was the CCP Rise comment on 15 day old accounts. You will not see anything else specifically on ganking.

If you can try to keep up, the most destructive period on players leaving in terms of ganking was when CCP buffed destroyers damage and left the mining ships tanks at the level of a wet paper bag. There was an explosion of ganking and the players could do very little about it, they of course blamed CCP for their terrible balancing and they were right to do so and many left the game.

I went on the forums and told CCP they were mad and needed to adjust the tank above wet paper bag level, something made them do just that, but after a long period. Some analysis perhaps, at this point ganking does not really affect miners like that because they have a choice on whether to fit a tank or not, CCP have given those players options, so its not CCP's bad design so does ganking push miners out of the game at this moment, not in my opinion.

Now to the bumping issue, a player looks at that naff mechanic and blames CCP for it in terms of incompetent game design, see the common theme here, CCP have now moved to make bumping have a little more consequence, aka a suicide pointing ibis, the also adjusted the EHP with the DCU changes, but that I think was due to other reasons. Will that work in terms of making people lose their anger at CCP's bad game design, maybe, you see the key aspect of this is poor design and poor balancing.

What is the chances of you even getting any of that, zero I would think.

When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

Hi, I have you marked as all talk, you don't blow up stuff in a game all about blowing up stuff, what do I care about you and what you think. What are you going to do, put the price up 1 ISK in anger...
