Hi M8s,

With the 118.6 release, we're making some tweaks to a bunch of capital gameplay. We would love your feedback!

Carriers & Fighters
  • Long Range Heavy Fighters (Ametat, Termite, Antaeus, Gungnir) bomb ability now correctly scales with squadron size.
  • Warp Scramblers now stop Fighter MWDs and MJDs mid-cycle.
  • Networked Sensor Array bonus to Scan Resolution now has a stacking penalty with sensor boosters.
  • Networked Sensor Array bonus to Scan Resolution reduced to 500% (from 900%)
  • Networked Sensor Array no longer gives a bonus to number of locked targets.
  • Networked Sensor Array sensor strength bonuses now also apply to the Carrier's fighter squadrons.
  • Fighters now have orbit ranges more appropriate to their weapons system (you can see this in Show Info)
  • General Light Fighters (Templar, Dragonfly, Firbolg, Einherji) have had their basic attack application stats increased and their heavy rocket salvo application & damage stats decreased:
  • Basic Attack - Explosion Radius (lower is better): 160 (-80)
Basic Attack - Explosion Velocity (higher is better): 150 (+30)
Heavy Rocket Salvo - Explosion Radius (lower is better): 350 (+250)
Heavy Rocket Salvo - Explosion Velocity (higher is better): 100 (-20)
Heavy Rocket Salvo - Speed: 14 seconds (-4)
Heavy Rocket Salvo - Damage (Average): 146 (-94)
    Heavy Rocket Salvo - Charges: 12 (+4)
Heavy Rocket Salvo - Reload Time: 4 seconds (-2)
    * All stats per fighter, before skills/mods.

Force Auxiliaries
  • Triage Mode now gives ECM Immunity
  • Triage Mode's bonus to Sensor Dampener Resistance has been reduced (T1: 60%, T2: 70%)

Dreadnoughts
  • Siege Mode now gives ECM Immunity
  • Siege Module I has had its bonus to missile ROF increased to 80%
  • Siege Mode's bonus to Weapon Disruption Resistance & Sensor Dampener Resistance has been reduced (T1: 60%, T2: 70%)
  • Naglfar now has 3 turret hard-points (and an extra high slot) and has lost its role bonus of +50% damage.
  • Naglfar has an additional +60 CPU and +80,000 PG
  • XL Artillery power grid requirements have been reduced (T1: 162,500 > 125,000)

Miscellaneous
  • Void Bombs now respect Energy Warfare Resistance
  • Void Bombs and Lockbreaker Bombs now give more verbose messages about their effects in the combat log.
  • Missiles now have the correct range when fired from large ships.
  • All Capital Shield Extenders now provide 10% less shield HP.
  • Bastion Module now gives ECM Immunity
  • The missile damage formula has been simplified. Ln(drf) / Ln(5.5) has been reduced to a precalculated value. This change has no effect on game-play! More details below.

There are more changes planned. We will be looking at HAW Tracking (more info here) and Light Fighter application / alpha.

As always, we welcome your feedback!

Q&A

Q: How does the missile change work?
A: Missiles 'fly' from the center of your ship to the target. This with especially large ships (such as a Leviathan) this can cause problems. They have a range (flight time * speed) of (for example) 40km. But because the missile has to fly across the radius of the Leviathan (8km in this example) their effective range is only 32km.
Missiles now get a small bonus to their flight time based on the radius of the ship launching them. So in the above example they will hit targets 40km away.

Q: How has the missile damage formula been changed?
A: The current missile damage formula looks like this (thanks EVE Uni!).
The ln(drf) / ln(5.5) part of the formula has been reduced to a single precalculated value (stored in aoeDamageReductionFactor for 3rd party devs using our API).
This makes no change to existing gameplay.

Q: The Naglfar won't have enough Power Grid to fit 3 guns (especialy with Artillery!)!
A: The changes to the Naglfar's model and number of turret hardpoints are already on Sisi and we didn't want to leave this without any comment from CCP. However, we haven't quite finished our fitting balance tweaks to the Nag. We're probably going to hit this problem from both sides, with a reduction to the PG requirement of XL Artillery and a small increase to the Naglfar's PG.

Q: Why are you nerfing Capital Shield Extenders?
A: The balance between shield and armor is a complicated issue. Shield gets some passive regen, repairs on the start of the cycle and the ability to fit both damage and tank at the same time. While armor often has a higher buffer and greater accesability to EWar modules while fitting tank.
We believe that for capitals the balance is just a little too strong toward shields.

ECM immunity for Siege but not for Triage?

What is the reasoning behind that if I may ask? Since FAXes exist the role is now split. Meaning the one and only thing a FAX should do is rep, just like a dread should Siege. Therefor I wonder why the dreadnoughts get to shoot stuff but FAXes dont get to rep stuff Question

The original 900% NSA scanres boost made it a nightmare to keep carriers tackled with dictors, as they just instalock you and alpha the dictor off the field. If the intention was to prevent this, I don't think that the nerf to 500% meaningfully improves this situation. The carriers can still lock dictors in 3 seconds, which isn't enough time to burn out of your bubble and escape. Add to that the immense buff to cruiser application, and even HICs have a hard time keeping a carrier tackled before help arrives.

I think that this situation is negatively impacting content generation by allowing carriers to clear their tackle without assistance, leading to less fleet fights and content generated over tackled carriers.

Btw since capitals were just recently rebalanced and now the Nag is getting another pass which potentially changes the way it is fit completely, any kind of compensation for potential billions lost on rigs?

Why nerf to shield extenders?
Way to early - we didn't have any big capital battles or citadel sieges.
Cutting it by 10% will put shield capitals again below EHP achievable by armor versions, without increased signature.

3 x extender Chimera is 15.4 KM in signature
3 x pladed archon is 9.94 KM
