Well it wasn't really my choice.
You disclosed your address readily enough, but are evasive about reasons you're playing? That's a bit odd.

I didn't mean to give away my address? I was told not to give away my address? How do I take it down?

By not my choice I meant a friend of mine basically made me try it after she reminded me I promised I would. There is a running joke that I am not good with social situations. Someone had the bright idea of making me try an online video game because I am also not technical. My guess is this is the hardest game they could think of with the most social stuff involved?

You are correct on this.

However it makes no difference. It is a social game but it is a social game for non-social people. I believe that a much larger percentage of Eve players are IT types with aspergers. I mean that literally not figuratively and I include myself in those numbers. I guess that you could consider it a social hangout for anti-social types. Not that you have to be anti-social just that if you are socially awkward you will fit in fine here.

OP (OP = Original Poster) I'm not in your timezone but I do get up for work probably a couple hours before you go to bed so if you eve-mail me questions I can try to log on and chat with you if you ever need help or feel stuck in something. However this is a forum alt so if you watch list me you will almost never see me log into this character unless you send an eve mail and I know to log over and chat with you.

You did nothing wrong.

In this situation specifically if you were posting troll bait you would be a man in real life and also had been playing online games and posting on gaming forums for years. You would then come here and pretend to be a female who has never gamed before just to watch all the men fall for the trick. That would be a troll bait post.

And we would be the people falling prey to the bait by trying to help someone that we general thought needed our help when you were in actuality just a troll.

If you are actually a female and actually new to gaming then you most certainly are not a troll and just who you say you are.

To explain it more simply to be a troll you would have to be misrepresenting yourself. If you are being honest you are not a troll and no one is accusing you of being one. They are just saying that if you are not who you say you are then you would be one. We probably only say that to preemptively save face on the off chance that you are a troll in hind sight we can at least say "I knew it" so we don't feel like fools.

If it is Sol

Kudos to him. He really got us all.

But I doubt this is troll bait, though yeah, some answers did make my spideysenses go off.

And as said by Shah...

Benefit of the doubt here, it IS possible (after all EVE was my first true MMO I played).

And if not, it might benefit that true new player that comes across the thread and reads the posts.

Ok so now that I understand a bit more (thanks to Ace Lapointe who helped my on Teamspeakers last night).

I gather Sol is a person and this person is a troller? Also I have been referred to as a few different things in my life but troll bait is a new one, I still don't quite get that one if someone wants to explain it.

Don't worry. Sol is cool too, but she likes to have fun and she will degenerate a thread quickly. If you are good, don't worry about people's suspicions you might not be. We'll give you the benefit of the doubt, people are just expressing that they have doubts because this is Eve, and we've been getting lots of trolls lately in NQ&A and it's got us a bit sensitive.

Trust me, if there is one truth of the EVE forums, it is, "If you do something wrong, people will tell you in no uncertain terms." Repeatedly, and often interspersed with insults of varying relevance and imagination. So don't worry about what you "might" have offended someone or "might" have done something wrong.

If you read the other threads you'll see the regulars come down hard on someone giving out bad info or acting inappropriate for NQ&A.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

probably. lol.

Ok, to edit a post, you can go back to it, on page one, there is an "Edit" button next to the quote. Click that, then backspace through whatever you don't want to say.

As a forum courtesy, it is nice to put an "edit note" at the bottom, especially after you have already been replied to. This helps new readers who might be confused when followup posts refer to something that you said, that they didn't see in your post. This is why, usually you don't want to edit a post someone replied to. Also, editing your post doesn't edit the reply quote in someone else's post.

Example edit note:
edit - grammar and math fixes.

Anything you say online stays there forever. So someone can shift through your lifetime of posts and usually build a pretty accurate profile. Of course linking character names, and forum nicknames shouldn't be possible. But I was rudely surprised by someone I knew and hadn't spoken to in 20 years when he tracked me down to a public forum. One which I never used my name or private info.

I've read every post on this thread I do not recall you having posted your address. You did mention the town or at least get people familiar with the area a reference withing several miles of where you live but I think he was using a minor bit of artistic license in there.

I believe a more accurate statement would have been that you have no problems giving the details about the general area in which you live but you were stingy with details on why you played the game.

I don't think that you've gone too far in giving details. I just think someone here was trying to help you remain cautious and not get too much more specific.

I have to object to Iras good advice as it is futile.

It is good advice indeed as a member of a well known alliance and former EVE player had to learn. Somebody, who likely played EVE too, wrote a letter to his employer (a gaming company that is not CCP Games) with wild allegations. He was able to clear his name but quit EVE because he didn't want to risk his job. If he would have cloaked his identity, he might still enjoy playing EVE to this very day.

You can. But like was said already anyone that has quoted it will still show the original text.
Tiffany Hope wrote:

Yes this is a forum thread. Everything posted here is public. If you want a private conversation with someone you need to start a private conversation either with a direct chat in game or in a channel that only the two of you are in or via an in game mail or out of game mail or some other form of communication where it is just the two of you.
Tiffany Hope wrote:

It dose not matter who you are but if you care that much what other people think of you and you are that thinned skinned you will have a tough time with this game. Yes people have accused you of being a troll but if you are not one then why would you care? Even if you were one why would you care?

I would venture to say that in life you need to have a little more confidence in yourself than that but certainly in this game you do. There are people in this game that will extract tears just for laughs. There are people in this game that will call you names and ridicule you not because they mean it but just to get into your head and defeat you before the shooting even starts.

You seem like a nice person but this is a game for aspiring scoundrels. That does not mean that you have to be an aspiring scoundrel but you need to know that this game is rife with them.

TL;dr have a little more self confidence in yourself and learn to tell others to suck it.

Its not in me to be mean or loud or anything lol. So hopefully I just meet nice people. I can just ignore the mean ones I guess. This is the most out there, crazy and social thing I've done since I was only little.

Sorry. I'm not big and tough that's why I don't do social things lol. This is a big step for me :)

I learnt in here in the game there are lots of mean people but it only takes one nice person to tell the rest to go away and its all good again :)

I know if it gets too much I can just leave but, if I'm honest, this game is kind of fun and once I learn how to change the paint on my ship and get one that doesn't look like a giant mushroom or bug and can go and do stuff it will get better :)

They are called ship skins. I've never used them but there is a section in the market for them and I think you can preview them in ship fitting and maybe even in the show info screen.

I'm not sure as I don't use skins. I noticed you ask this question before and was hoping someone who knew more than me would chime in. If you can't figure it out let me know and I'll jump in a chat with you and help you figure it out.

Yeah I think you have a couple of options for like Gold or grey or whatever but I was going more for obnoxious pink or overly-happy lemon lol.

I've noticed that everything is quite dark in this game, almost gothic a lot of the times. I just wanted to bring some colour and brightness to it lol.

Sorry. I'm not big and tough that's why I don't do social things lol. This is a big step for me :)

You have nothing to apologize for and I am not asking you to be big our tough or mean or anything.

I simply suggested that it might benefit you to be a little more confident in yourself. Refusing to apologize when you've done nothing wrong is not mean, it's just being honest.

When you apologize when you know you've done nothing wrong that is dishonest because you are not really sorry since you have done nothing to be sorry of.

Again there's nothing wrong with anything that you have done. As best as I can tell you've not offended anyone here. I'm just saying that the honest self-loving thing to do is speak your truth and be proud of who your are regardless of who that is.

Who ever you are today, tomorrow you will be a better you and the tomorrow you can easily look back on the yesterday you and call it inferior but that would be a diservice because in every moment you are just being the best you that you can be and in every moment it's a little better than the moment before.

Well, there is no ability to chose your own colors, but you can choose predesigned skins, most ships have at least two to choose from, but it costs real money, or a lot of isk to buy the skins.

Amarr have the shiniest happiest ships. At least on the outside, the slaves I haul around never seemed that enthusiastic, maybe I need to whip them more.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you really get slaves in this game? That's really not nice :(

I would totally pay the money though if I could get the skin Ace showed me yesterday!

I did not ask you to promise me anything. However your apologizing here in this context I will take as you telling me that you won't be told to not be you which in my head I will chalk up as a win.

Have fun and fly wreckless ( that does not mean without producing wrecks but meant as a complete disregard for safety ) and once again if you have questions let me know, probably in an in game mail but I'll likely check this thread again tomorrow.

The Amarr are slave lords and the Minmatar are escaped slaves of the Amarr. As a Gallente who's faction is aligned with the Minmatar it is fitting that you are displeased with the Amarr having slaves.

Now the fitting thing for any well balanced Eve player to do with that knowledge is join faction warfare and spill the blood, in little frozen droplets, of as many of us Amarr slave lords as you can. Make us pay for our transgressions with internet space ship violence.
