Unlearn skills into skillpoints - Feature suggestion.

I would like to see a option to reclaim skillpoints by unlearning a skillbook and return the skillpoints into the unallocated pool and destroying the injected skillbook in the process.

It will open up the possibility to direct skillpoints to where they are needed and to free up skillpoints from old unused skills.

I thought about this feature and I cant really identify any downside to this feature, the cost of reclaiming is that the skillbook is destroyed. So if you want to unlearn Amarr Carrier 5, you get some skillpoints but you loose the 500 mil you payed for the skillbook and you loose all levels of the skill.
And ofcource you cant unlearn skills that you have depended skill on, so you cant unlearn amarr frigate if you have amarr cruiser or above learned etc.

Me personally I have some odd million skills in mining and production that I have no intension of using in any time soon. If I ever want to mine again I can just buy the skills and train them again or reclaim some other skills and apply unallocated skillpoints at that time.

I can see how my feature suggestion is like the sticky post linked, however looking at the posts in the sticky I feel that my idea with destroying the injected skill while returning skillpoints to the unallocated pool is new or if it has been suggested before it is very much buried in "non-constructive" posts.

it has been many many times

eve is about choice and consequence this idea goes against that

not to mention how this can be exploited to speed up training

-1 if you trained mining skills to "max" then found out it was the worst thing in the world, well unlucky, you should be punished for it by looking at them daily Cool

Calm down miner. As you pointed out, people think they can get away with stuff they would not in rl... Like for example illegal mining... - Ima Wreckyou*

Say i have int mem so i train an int mem skill

i then unlearn that and pump those points into a presep will skill this will train teh persep will skill faster than if i did not do this

or i buy a character with 250mill sp I can now taller that to exactly what i want

but the most important part is even if it could not be exploited it is not in the spirit of the game

Well currently I have no choice, but hence the feature suggestion. Its not like I haven't lived with it for many years and accepted it as part of the game, but after having a talk with some corp members on TS not a single one thought it was a bad Idea, so I wanted to put it out to the community to judge.
Of course there will be trolls but there might also be some bright people to vote this feature. Even as a vet with plenty of skillpoints and I can live with having 10-15ish mil SP in skill ill prob never use again without it hurting me. But this suggestion is also for all the newbros coming into the game and finding their way into pvp. Once they get the taste of if it would be good for them to unlearn all their mining skills and give them the chance to get into a interceptor or maybe a T1 cruiser with some decent weapon and core skills.

Everyone with 40+ mil SP will be training from a remapped skillplan they made in Evemon to get max SP/Hour so although it could work around the 1 remap per year but it would do so at the cost of skillbooks because you would constantly have to have the skillbooks around because if you want to redeem the SP the total amount of SP in the skill would be return to the unallocated pool and the skill would be "destroyed" from your pod.

With the 250mil SP char that you buy from bazaar, the only thing this would hurt would be the people that sell specialized characters (not a bad thing in my opinion).

I am still not seeing how this goes against the spirit of the game, I might just not be a bitter-vet yet.

but its all about learning, if you have 10-15mil in mining you should not be able to instantly switch that for 10-15mil in combat skills

But this is what I am confronting, if you have put in the time to accumulate the skillpoints and you put in the isk to get the skillbooks then why would I not be allowed to swap as I want? Its not like the game is not lacking isk sinks, this would be a good one in my opinion.

NO
Bad idea

I have a character that has maxed scan skills, did that back in the day when you needed maxed out scan skills to find the good stuff like the best WH and the tastiest ore anoms. Then CCP came along and made scanning so stupid easy that you do not need max skills for anything but true combat scanning.
Did they refund my now useless skill points? (tip the answer is no)
If I did not get a skill refund because of a game change that CCP made then you cannot get a skill refund simply because "I want it".

Like me you made choices on what to train and like me you have to live with the consequences of those choices.

But with my idea you could get your skill points back you might ask.
And the answer is still no, as badly as I would like those skill points back it is a decision I made and now I have to live with it
That is how it should be and that is how it needs to be and that is how it should always be.

Two things spring to mind immediately (from the muliple times this has been proposed I'm afraid).

It is pay to win and heavily favours the space rich who could afford to switch skills at any time.

You'd end up with the majority of players flying the same few FotM ships.

As far as I know there are only two characters in New Eden that meet that criteria and I doubt they are willing to sell theirs.

The skillpoint system that makes EVE so unique is also the thing that lets you stay for long times. You want more skillpoint, be there and train them like everyone else does.
19 days from now my character here will become nine years old and I know of no other world that has kept me busy for as long as EVE has.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

First there is no such thing as a useless skill and simply because you don't need it now doesn't mean you might not have need for it in the future.
Second this kind of feature heavily promotes FOTM which creates difficulties keeping things balanced properly for CCP.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

But it will help with the newbro frustration with the ever changing doctrins, so another argument is that why should the FOTM only be available to those being multiple years into the game. Most new players want to fit in and play with the big boys but with the ever changing landscape of EvE its hard for them to keep so it becomes skill queue online. So FC wants to take out a Geddon fleet, only 20 days more and you can join is what many newbros have to deal with. Next day its AFs or T3D, ahh newbro its only 20 days and you can join... it is that frustration I am trying to address.
Personally I don't care, by the end of November I am done with subcaps, all ships at 5 and support skills and 5, all specialications at 5 etc but as a mentor and guide for our newbros I can remember how EvE was skillqueue online for me for some years.

This would make it worse. new players just trying to fit in would never have SP in one skill long enough to find out what they like for them selves, and would just constantly be strung along by the higher order.

That is not FOTM, that is called a fleet doctrine and they usually have places for low SP pilots in them, for those that don't they have bad FCs.
