Incorrect. CCP know precisely how many people are online (# of characters logged in) at any given time.

Honest question, is that players who simply logged in, or players who were actively playing the game?

Players who are currently logged in. The tally is taken once every minute.

They can't say main-alts on logged in players, can they?

My character is about 3 months old and I'm quite happy with the Skills I have. I like the character progression and watching her 'grow'. I'm happy about every 'skill training completed'-message. Wouldn't like to have the possibility to just 'buy' skillpoints.
Sometimes I think Vishanka is quicker at learning than me.
I've made the experience that even my young character can already be useful in this game, and that's what I love about EVE.

feckin spot on. i still love to hear "skill training complete" keep it up Big smile

Sure there are still capitals being lost every day but most are not lost in a fight, so much as being unlucky to get caught trying to move them. Few if any groups will form a 100 man fleet so a guy can move his nyx, 90% of the time your on your own and if you get spotted, your dead.

how are most not lost in a fight? how did they die? self destruct? nope,,,,, they where lost in a fight.
if you've got jump drive trained you've made the list of those worth shooting at. so if you move that cap alone and it gets ganked you should not be surprised even a little.

i don't understand, you've claimed through out this thread that this style of play is dead, yet now you say it's business as usually for everyone in a large group (they adapted) while anyone not in a large group has docked the caps and will never use them again. (they've not adapted?)

total and utter bullshite.

As an aside, I've found the Pheobe changes made using my Capitals (and Supercapital) much more enjoyable. Sure, the old days were better for my Dread (jump, seige, end seige, jump, seige, end seige, jump, etc as many times as needed), but for want of a better term, you feel less detached as a cap pilot now - you play the game the same way as everyone else, rather than playing a jump/cap management mini-game (down-side of owning a Revelation) while the subcaps play with gates. Granted, warp-speed mods are probably solely responsible for keeping travel speeds reasonable, and without them life would probably be horrific, but I've never found myself regretting the Pheobe changes for a minute.

Not completely, there were "fire sale" of carriers and such quite recently (including my own) in Provi, atleast (if nowhere else), that I know...

fire sale also indicates they sold which leans towards them being used anyway. if they where not selling it might indicate something.. they sold yes ?

Well I were few months ago very quick to react and gave mine to corp (so if they wanna sell they get something from "good times"), and there were still buy orders back then...

Pretty soon I saw only sell orders, though. And ships in contracts.

Tbh, yeah i donĀ“t really know what overall situation with Provi and caps is now (bet only CCP knows exactly), kinda fishing here for somebody that does still live in provi and knows...

Bull, CCP is completely capable of seeing the number of IP addresses connected to their server at any given time. How do you think they ban entire groups at the same time for Macro use or RMT even when only one or two characters are being used?

You also know they have individual hardware statistics they are now collecting through the program too... so not only can they tell how many unique IPs at any given time they can also tell you how many different computers in the same house you are logged into your various alt accounts with.

Edit: Example of this was when they accidentally banned the entire IP address for the Michigan State University Freshmen Dorm after one player was doing some naughty bowhead dunking or whatever they were doing. Took a few days for them to go through and unban the IP and block just the hardware IDs of the offenders.

CCP Quant: Of all those who logon in Eve, 1.5% do Incursions, 13.8% PVP and 19.2% run Missions while 22.4% mine.

40.7% Join a fleet. The idea that Eve is a PVP game is false, the social fabric is in Missions and Mining.

Aggressive! You need to get laid? Lol
You seemed to miss something though. They themselves admit that they can not reliably tell how many actual people are logged in/own subscriptions. Funnily enough your own example supports that it's not possible to reliably connect characters with human beings.

I can create ten accounts on one computer using the same IP and they can't tell it's all me. Not even the mail address is a reliable indicator, because I could have a shared one with others. Or differently, I could use ten seperate mail addresses on the same computer on a shared IP. It's still not reliable.

And to evade a ban all you need is fake your MAC, use a VPN, use a new mail address and sub via PLEX.

But PLEASE explain me how you would do something they are struggling with! Big smile

Of course they can. They can tell the character, where does it log in from and which computer/device is running its client. They can also link that information with a specific payment method and the name of the individual who created the account.

This is how/why they ban ALL accounts of any infractor, to the surprise of players used to other games where bans are per character or account.

Now, whether a character is a main/alt, CCP can know how long does it log in, what SP it haves and trains, and other stuff like what modules it activates and who gets the effects of those modules.

The point is, TQ MUST know that in order to work, and then CCP just need to collect the data, store it and analyze it... and they do it, up to 50 Gb of logs each day.

But alas! Frame is the essence of art, and no amount of data serves nothing if you don't make the right questions, misintepretate the answers or just can't believe them because they don't tell you what you want to know.

If what you say is true, then they cannot ban anyone other than the offending account. Every petition would have to be honored. But we know they ban everything attached to that account through Hardware/IP match. CCP would never admit to not knowing who owns accounts because of their Team Security procedures.

In my example, they banned an entire IP (which was a bad move) but later looked for the specific hardware ID and banned just the one Player and his accounts. (Later they declared it legal and lifted the ban anyways).

So you are wrong, they sure can tell individuals with multiple accounts vs multiple individuals... they just generally do not parse their data often enough to do that.

But you know darn sure that when the CFO is asked for revenue and data they parse the hardware ID along with IPs and give real subscriptions by the Human Being.

If someone is willing to fake a MAC address, or set up a fake mailing address just to cheat on a video game, they have bigger problems than we can talk about here.

Your accounts are linked to a certain rl name .So yes , i do assume CCP knows how many people are playing the game or at least can make a verry close estimation of it.

Allthough that is correct enlighten me why someone would make a lot of different accounts under different rl names and email adresses? You honestly think most people will do that?
