What numbers?

As for the Sandbox, it was never a sandbox. Even look at CCP social media. They don't showcase building in EVE. They showcase lie, cheat, steal, backstab and destroy.

The most recent being a 600 billion ISK corp theft that was '6 months in the making'. Ignore the years and players it took to build it.

The most attention getting part about playing in a sand box has never been about who is building the fanciest sand castle. It's always been about who is busy kicking them over. That is why stories like that are showcased in the media.

An EVE corp earning 600 billion ISK isn't remotely newsworthy, and never will be. Getting it stolen is.

For those professing that EVE can't be a sand box because it has rules limiting what you can do and when you can do it in some cases... you are missing something important in your analogies.

All sand boxes have certain minimal boundaries. Primarily because a sandbox completely without boundaries is actually nothing more than a barren desert... with no notable features or points of interest.

Teg has been banging that drum for years. Originally on his blog he tried to campaign for the removal of 'reavers' because apparently the monstrous sociopaths are scaring away the cuddly potentials. Still sounds like bollocks to me. Isachunk isn't the least bit cuddly. Now he just seems to be bitter towards CCP over pretty much everything.

Having said that, the graphs that people keep creating are interesting. Sometimes they are annotated with major events (B-R/This is EvE trailer etc). I've yet to see one matched to major nullsec campaigns, or perhaps more importantly, an attempt to correlate dips to the implosion of large alliances/coalitions. Such a shame the QENs stopped being produced - there's masses of info in there that can be used to track ingame activity.

The r/eve metrics show a steady increase in people subscribed (the Total Subscribers graph). To put that in perspective, here is the r/gameofthrones stats. Considering how talked about GoT is on social media, EvE having 10% of their subs on reddit doesn't seem too shabby. One thing that is noticeable even when PCU numbers dip people are still rambling on about EvE on various social media sites (I wonder if the rambling intensifies to correspond with the PCU). Even when people aren't actively logged into the client, or subbed for that matter, they seem pretty engaged with the wider community. That doesn't fit all that well into these Armageddon narratives, and neither does the level of engagement apparent on reddit from devs.

Agree. That one is able to interact with anothers sand castle is distinguishing feature of Eve Online.

Did you ever stop and think the reason Eve Metrics shows the reddit base for Eve growing inverse to the Player average online numbers might be that you can't post on the Eve-O forums when you cancel your sub...

Maybe it is a bad thing for CCP that there is a forum for the game that people can use and post and they don't even have to be active subscribers to use it.

Also, I will try and find it, there was a graph with player online averages by the week and it had milestone nullsec fights on it. Notably when a fight of epic damage and loss happened the player numbers went sharply up the next week... but then tanked below their previous average about a month later.

Over on Reddit it appears someone parsed the killboard data and determined that we are down only 14% in kills year to date, with 8% less unique antagonists. Compare that to the 30% drop in player averages and they surmised that PVE/Carebear types have left the game in far greater numbers or that alts are not being subbed any longer. The only weird thing about that though is kills in High Sec are on the rise and kills in null are down far more than before. I don't know exactly what that all means yet and I would rather like to look at the hard data.

CCP Quant: Of all those who logon in Eve, 1.5% do Incursions, 13.8% PVP and 19.2% run Missions while 22.4% mine.

40.7% Join a fleet. The idea that Eve is a PVP game is false, the social fabric is in Missions and Mining.

I generally like your posts...
I started on 12/31/2008. There are less players on the server today than then. I have to spend as much time running level 4's in a Marauder to earn a PLEX now as I had to spend mining in a burst then. **** that. WoW is literally more fun these days.

You can build a good case that its not going to die any time soon, but if you say it inst crippled I feel you are being intellectually dishonest.

Feel as you like, it's not crippled, you are simply confusing your own feelings towards the game with the games general situation. You are not alone, lots of people do that, and in doing so they imagine crisis where none really exists. I love EVE, I have no interest in seeing it die or CCP go out of business, If i thought that was happening I'd be concerned...

But I've lived through too many years of "EVE is Dying" to respond to that particular wolf cry anymore.

You also have to notice that some of the same people pointing at pcu numbers and screaming "EVE is dying" are the same people who said the same things when the PCU numbers were going up. In addition to Doomsday anxiety, there is this feeling among the 'perpetually marginalized' player who never like core aspects of EVE and wanted 'change' that now is the time to seize on the fact of lower pcu numbers to manipulate CCP to develop in a direction they want and have always wanted. Raw opportunism at it's finest.

It not nearly as bad in game as forum people say. If a person never played EVE came to this forum he'd think no one is playing EVE at all. I jsut returned to null sec and i've had to turn Jabber off, all the pinging about fights and stuff is annoying.

Try living on your salary from 6 years ago then I guess. Its not impossible, but its not fun and its not sustainable.

The "entitled bell-ends" are leaving and making a heck of a racket as they go.

People are returning, but with 'their mains' only. Alts were always a luxury.

Really so those of us who have been around for years should just leave - Because your happy with a few changes that a far greater number dislike.

I never played WOW but it does seem it would suit you much better than Eve - See Eve was built by players and what they did, where you seem to think WOW with its constant trash updates is ok for Eve.
Please don't let the door smack you in the back of the head as you leave. (It might damage the door)

Oh just just to be clear - This thread is players voicing concern - Only a few who don't actually partcipate in the thread see it as an "Eve is dying" thread.
But they too aren't wrong - Everything dies eventually, it may take a year it may take 10 but it will happen.

My opinions are mine.

  If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - - Just don't bother Hating - I don't care

It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.

Alts were a necessary luxury for certain activities - I for one don't miss subbing 3 cyno accounts but do miss using my capitals.

Ranger - Your half right, there are older players returning. They came back with the announcement of the new sov hoping it would bring valid game play with it.
Most will stay subbed now until the July deadline passes, at least - Then and only then will we see whether the changes meet expectations.
When Eve had proper releases and not this 6 week rolling mess of half finished projects, there was always a spike of old players returning to see what was on offer.

Will the nerf to fleets and Fozzielogic sov (best griefers win) be enough to keep them? I doubt it but time will tell.

No, don't leave because she is happy. Leave if you are unhappy (that's what she originally suggested).

Why continue to play a game that you appear to hate so much and see no redemption in it? Doesn't on the face of it seem to be a great way to be entertained.

It was never meant to be solely about Fozzie's attempt at doing something valid for nulsec dwellers.
The thread is essentially about the ability of players to play whatever game style they prefer (sandbox). For me (and many others) the ability of using capital ships I spent years training for and buying, has all but been removed from the game. I don't want to belong to some mega group, so using my capitals is far less an option than before.

There are many examples of play styles being eroded or removed by changes being introduced due to perceived problems that have far wider reaching affects and some of them just don't address the problem so much as appear to have done something.

You have presumably (by the amount of posts) read a good deal of the thread and once again only picked a certain line of a post to respond to.

And yeah I suppose "they took my toys away" is part of it for me but then again, there are a lot of others feel the same way so it could be a valid topic.
What I did about it, was stopped subbing all the accounts I no longer need. My unsubbed cyno accounts don't add up to much on their own - but how many others have also let subs die on accounts they no longer need?

I do login, every day and do, what some might call "play the game".

That doesn't change the fact devs are releasing a biased unbalanced sov system, it also doesn't change the fact I don't like it, I like the sov game but dislike griefing.

If everyone just sits back and lets bad change happen, it does and we the players get stuck with crappy game play for another 5 or 6 years.
You yourself said - You have experienced the boredom of Dominion, how long will it take for you to get bored with having to protect your sov for 4 hours every day so griefers don't make it unusable, how long will you keep running around chasing invisible attackers off-lining station services - Or will you leave the defending to others and just do your own thing?

Fozziesov is going to suit some groups perfectly but at the expense of anyone who doesn't "fit in" to the griefing play style.
As bad a Dominion is, it discouraged griefing because it was just too time consuming to grief someones sov if you didn't have plans for it - Fozziesov is the exact opposite - Griefing others sov is more valid than holding it.

My opinions are mine.

Actually, lots of reasons. For one, People don't like to walk away from things they've 'invested' in. I find it ironic that the thing that keeps people playing MMOs they don't like is also something that makes people susceptible to scams in real life:
Quote:
r, let’s say you buy tickets to a concert. On the day of the event, you catch a cold. Even though you are sick, you decide to go to the concert because otherwise “you would have wasted your money”.

Boom! You just fell for the sunk cost fallacy.

Sure, you spent the money already. But you can’t get it back. If you aren’t going to have a good time at the concert, you only make your life worse by going.

People do this all day every day in EVE, and they want CCP to fix it for them. They are basically saying "I don't have fun in EVE anymore, but I've been playing for years so I might as well stick around, agitate for change on the forums and hope for the best".

For myself, when EVE stops being fun the little "E" icon on my desktop stops getting clicked on. I ran some anoms last night, got a 10/10 from one, went to do that, got scanned down, saw the neutrals coming on close d-scan so i rushed to kill the overseer. Scooped the loot just as the 1st bad guy landed in the room I was in, warped off before he got within 60 klicks of me, butt cheeks clinched the entire time. Safed up and cloaked up, made my way home an hour latter, kept my cargo hold open so I could look at the loot I had won not only from the angel cartel, but from real life players who wanted to gank me but went home empty handed..

If the above doesn't do it for you, that's ok. And it's ok to have 'concerns', i surely do, but at the end of the day this is a freaking video game, it won't kill you to uninstall it and do something else if it makes you unhappy.

It also doesn't change the fact that you are powerless to stop it. In fact, complaining about it too much has the opposite effect of what you intend. Developers are human and humans tend to double down when repeatedly told they are stupid for doing something.

You're wasting your time. The only thing you will gain from this 'forum effort' is access to an "I told you so" card in a few years if (when) Fozziesov doesn't work. I don't care for the concept either (it seems wrong for sov null, the kinds of people who do low sec/FW pvp ("warrior types) aren't the same kinds of people who live in Sov null (soldier types) and fozzie sov resembles FW to me, and did on duality). in fact I think it may end up being worse than our Dominion experience, but I've had my say and gained my "I told you so" card for later already.

Heck, I already got my dig in, it's on the front page of this thread. I have little else to weigh in on for Fozzie sov, they will go on with their plan regardless of my input, and that's really the end of it. Now I just sit back with a bucket of popcorn. There really is no need for a threadnaught.
