Still a bit confused about the 'or private chat' thing. Yes or No if you don't respond to a private chat request within 5 seconds you will be ganked for being afk?

Also since when did James 315 start ganking that 5 seconds seems to apply to his bumping only. It's easy enough to check.

The private Convo to check if the person is AFK is not mandatory, in fact even checking in local is not mandatory, if we see you mining and your lasers are off and have been for a few minutes, you're AFK and we don't need to ask you in local to confirm that. If we see your lasers mining and we suspect you are still AFK, then we can check in local, or private convo. The convo is purely a courtesy provided by select agents by their own choice and good graces, I myself do not offer convo's.

If you don't notice my scanning alt scope out your tank or my Catalyst alt getting yelled at by faction police when he undocks, you were probably AFK and can safely be ganked.

I don't even fit points.

Just a little FYI:

Apparently, noobs in Herons are now also deemed bot aspirant by the CODE gang as they try to figure out the scanning system in the solar system map, thereby obviously missing chat/local (if any is provided), and being deemed AFK.

Several poor noobs in help channel going WTF just happened.

Additionally, a bumper sticker (one assumes in the bio) proclaiming loyalty to the code is also mandatory and lacking one a gankable offense.

Blowing up newbies trying to learn the game is actually pretty poor form.

I have fond memories of using google translate to explain to some month-old Russian in an untanked Retriever that Otela was maybe not the best place for him to hang out.

I totally agree. If you see this occur, please contact DJentropy or I in game with evidence. I do not condone the deliberate targeting of new players in any way, and as far as I know, CODE. alliance does not either. That said, code compliance is expected, and I hope the pilot involved can be directed to a safer area to complete their tutorial.

If you see players suicide ganking within tutorial systems or soe epic arc systems (targeting new players) remember to file a petition.

Why doesn't someone just find a list of people that purchased permits and start ganking them?

It would put an end to all this code and permit nonsense lol.

You could almost argue that buying a permit is in itself bot aspirant behaviour, as devoid of any higher reasoning capabilities, as flushing 10m down the drain. The Code within the Code, against the Code.

Anyone start up a corp to make it so?

A concept I've wondered about once or twice too.

If CODE actually attempted to provide some form of protection to it's permit holders, as well as immunity to CODE pilot ganks, then it would add a ton of legitimacy to the organization and give it more of a tough-love/educational vibe rather than purely a ganky one.

How about you go look at minerbumping.com for your evidence......

For a diplomat you sure are poor at getting your own politicians in line. Your glorious leader of the revolution just posted a gleeful post about agents popping a 1 month old charachter in a venture, with the agent then following the person into Star Craft 2 to grief them there some more.

As stated above, if the permit would actually mean anything, you could really grow CODE into something.

Well in real life paying off the mafia is just smart business sense. You get better protection than the police could ever provide and you gain additional services.

You can't protect yourself in high sec, and you certainty can't protect anyone else.

What would be better would be an insurance model for high sec miners and it might actually please both sides because the insuring agent could set rules(e.g. fits, behavior, systems) and their advice and suggestions would be better received by new players than a group who is out to kill them.

Ah yes, the "why doesn't someone do something" lament. Here's an idea...why don't *you*?

LOL. Yeah hard to protect yourself if you're AFK.

I've read some of the fitting advice miners give each other...it's either laughably bad, or the same advice we give the miners. Usually, miners advise each other for max yield, which makes our job easier. What's wrong with the in game insurance? Are the players going to have cheaper insurance and pay out more than the game? LOL we'll find out who is doing that, target all his customers, and bankrupt him.

Yes, please please please do this. It would do nothing but help us out.

Permits are a tiny, tiny, tiny portion of New Order income, anymore. We make the vast majority of our income off the content we generate and post to share.

So yes, please, go gank permit holders. I'm positive the stories we get out of THAT will be good for quite a few million ISK.

If you're afk, it's a violation of the agreement between the two parties, so it won't help you avoid getting ganked.

So why get one at all?

This one.....this one thinks way too much. She may become a problem.

Now, in all seriousness, you are kind of hitting the point behind a lot of New Order actions right on the head. We want people to realise they're playing a multiplayer game, with other people, who can and will influence their gameplay. If you're awake, ATK, paying attention, and doing all those "I don't wanna be ganked" things, it's kind of a moral victory for us. You're PLAYING EVE, not just running the EVE client while watching ****.

I mean, we still want that permit fee and all, but...moral victory!

So, leaving that aside, what would be the actual benefits of purchasing a mining permit? Honestly, I think it could be a great product, I'm just having a hard time understanding why people would want it.

Permits do make it much less likely for CODE agents to gank you. Most of the time we convo permit holders or alert them in local before ganks.

In the few instances where someone has been ganked while at their keyboard with a permit, I have seen the miner get reimbursed.

Because most miners are unorganized and lazy. Organized groups with a skilled body guard or two are extremely hard to gank. If the mining community was capable of banding together and organizing to stop us, then CODE. wouldn't be needed.

There was actually a group of 5 combat ships in the ice belt in our home system one night, and nothing but tanked skiffs mining. They didn't seem to understand that I considered that situation a victory, it was truly a wonderful sight to see. If they had all been permit holders it would have been perfection, but it was a really good start and exactly in the spirit of what Code is trying to encourage.

It should be noted that despite all their boasting in local they still wouldn't duel me, even when I sent a duel invite to two or three of them at the same time. Oh well.

I remember your ganking ops in Otela. You used to say in local: "I was unsubbed for like three months, do we have vigilantes in Otela now?"
On D-Scan I used to see your Catalyst funnily named as "Rock Saviour" along with your spotter&looter in that humble Imicus.

If you're still ganking there, especially at the ice belt, either purchase an exclusive, 1-year ganking permit from a local white knight (lel) or fit some ECCM (which you already do IIRC). Because Otela is known for its mostly organized ECM opposition (and other things) which might cause serious electronic failure to your Catalyst. After gankers failed, we used to say "Just forget Otela".

At least that's how Otela was before I left there. Maybe things have changed, who knows?

Be the change you want to see in Highsec.
