Hopefully they have someone look after it for the duration.

At least if it was graffiti it could be cleaned off.

Sadly the vandal chose a more permanent method. :(

Great that this is being handled by police. Why anyone feels they have the right to deface the property of others is beyond me, disgusting act of vandalism.

Start wide, expand further, and never look back

Add gate turrets around the Monument, and they will tear up anyone agress the Monument...problem solved. Lol

Lady Areola Fappington:  Solo PVP isn't dead!  You just need to make sure you have your booster, remote rep, cyno, and emergency Falcon alts logged in and ready before you do any solo PVPing.

So, there's a couple of things going to happen in this thread right now:

  • First - People are going to stop pointing fingers and blaming people. CCP will investigate and take any action against game accounts, along with any legal action that we feel necessary. This is already in progress.
  • Second - This is damage of public property in the City of Reykjavik. The police have been informed, and investigation is ongoing. This is not a laughing matter, and will be dealt with as a criminal offence. We are currently reviewing security footage from a number of surrounding buildings.
  • Third - People will stop attacking the victim of this on our forums. It's not funny, it's not clever. Take your rumor mongering and personal attacks away from our community. If you choose not to, you'll be removed from the community, permanently. It's a simple as that. We will not tolerate victimization.

What's happened is absolutely disgusting. It's an insult to the entire community and is clearly the work a person who believes that behavior in a virtual world is a valid reason to make a real life personal attack on someone, and deface public property.

We will not tolerate this.

Thankfully we've already had a number of players come forward to assist us and provide information. Including, we believe, members of the person's own alliance.

Thankfully the vast majority of the rest of the community are in the same frame of mind as CCP - disgusted at the fact that someone would do this, and we're extremely grateful for your assistance.

With that in mind, I'll make a simple one time offer, that if the person who defaced the monument wants to come forward and contact me relating to this, then they can do so by EVE mailing my Dev character. If this happens, we'll take it as a gesture of good faith after an extremely stupid act that was committed.

With this in mind, be sure to keep this thread on topic, and cut out the personal attacks and finger pointing. People who break the rules will lose their forum posting privileges. Permanently.

Thanks.

Seriously Falcon bro, cover those names up with a clear protector. We both know it'll happen again, sadly enough. If I was at fanfest I'd do it for you myself, for free!

Stealing the idea from my local graveyard maint. guys, in fact. They've started sealing text on grave markers with plexi, coz dimbulbs have been defacing headstone test for lulz.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

I don't think that I know any artpiece in a public space, which has not been modified or vandalized at some point.

I know quite a few actually.

That said, I have removed some rule breaking posts.
The Rules:
30. Abuse of CCP employees and ISD volunteers is prohibited.

CCP operate a zero tolerance policy on abuse of CCP employees and ISD volunteers. This includes but is not limited to personal attacks, trolling, “outing” of CCP employee or ISD volunteer player identities, and the use of any former player identities when referring to the aforementioned parties.
Our forums are designed to be a place where players and developers can exchange ideas in a polite and friendly manner for the betterment of EVE Online. Players who attack or abuse employees of CCP, or ISD volunteers, will be permanently banned from the EVE Online forums across all their accounts with no recourse, and may also be subject to action against their game accounts.

There must be someone who can do restoration, I doubt they are going to leave it damaged.

Anyway looks like the person who did it couldn't keep their mouth shut, and good old fashion snitching still works.

Well, that's certainly your prerogative and not something I'd consider for even a nanosecond.

The thing is, if you're not going to treat this as the red line the crossing of which means an instant and permanent ban for the person responsible, which line will you use?

I think there is a lesson in all of this horribleness.

Hate is an emotion we all have but letting it take control, clouding judgment and shutting down any remote chance of rational thinking is not ok. Despite what some will say I know a great deal about emotions and feelings. I have learned which are constructive and which are counterproductive.

Hate as an emotion can literally hijack your brain and make you do stupid things, horrible things. No matter how much you dislike somebody or their ideas you should never let that devolve into hate. This isn't just me saying this either, there is a strong scientific backing to what I am saying.

EvE Online is a Game.
There are plenty of people that I dislike in the context of the game but I would never wish violence upon them or their properties. I would certainly never desire to damage an art installation in efforts to spite them. This is the difference between rational thinking and blind hate.

Even if you don't agree with anything I stand for or have any appreciation for me as a player, remember that we all make EvE what it is. Every single one of us IS EvE.

I have a feeling he meant they wouldn't bring the police any further into all of this if the person came forward on their own. Doubt a ban can be avoided in this case.

Falcon didn't go into details about what impact this would have on the penalties (and I think we shouldn't guess here). To offer the person responsive for all this the opportunity to show some sense of guilt doesn't really make it less clear that the red line is drawn and was crossed here.

I was surprised by the lack of that

But seriously?

Anyone looked his/her name up on the monument on that or adjacent squares?
Maybe somebody has seen something (scratches already in place/scratches NOT there/someone sneaking around).
I was there on day -1 (some time after the unveiling), but did only search for names in different places...

Could have been someone who didn't even really have anything against you who just wanted to frame Gevlon.
Of course it could also have been someone who hates your guts who also wanted to frame Gevlon. Or it could have been someone who hates you and found Gevlon easy to use as a scapegoat. Or it could have been someone who didn't have anything against either of you, and just decided to act like a child.
