Itself.

It looks like the real victim here is Gevlon.

Again, I dislike Gevlon more than I should dislike a nerd playing a video game. But this is taking things too far, and using someone as a scapegoat is pathetic.

When someone makes me mad with their words, I frequently go and damage an unrelated 3rd party's property to get back at them. Because I am what is known as a child.

I will be sad to see Gevlon get banned (if he did this).

Who will take his place as the laughing stock of EVE?

It should be a bannable offense. Also, can't the relevant authorities use his Twitter to track him down and charge for vandalism? That said, I'm not sure how much damage this actually amounts to.

Gevoln did not do it. He's hardly even a fan of Eve, I certainly can't imagine him going to fanfest. The twitter account was made just to publish the picture and smear Gevlon with it. All quite childish.

I literally can't separate myself from the game. I even have the pod ports installed.

Surprisingly, you'll find that courts have ruled that IP addressees are not evidence, at least in the US. They're too easily faked.

They're not admissible evidence in court largely because most court rulings with regards to electronic information as evidence were made precedent well before they were properly understood, by people whose parents were old enough to remember the Civil War.

They are, however, usable to obtain a warrant for a computer and phone search.

Not to mention that they are easily enough for CCP to wildly swing the banhammer.

Funny how this one has players baying for blood and the banhammer eh? The last major public banning was done at CCPs discretion, and tbh a lot of us shrugged. Same with this, but now its an insult to the wider playerbase. Hypocrisy + irony overload.

Turns out that once you have established that witch hunting is ok and gets results, it happens more often.

Besides, this one actually is a crime.

Frankly, on a personal note, I find this absolutely disgusting and completely detrimental to the EVE Community's close knit spirit.

We'll have more information tomorrow afternoon/evening regarding this.

Really sorry that this has happened guys Sad

While I agree with dealing with it - "close knit spirit" is a very positive way of terming a community that holds true to the saying "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." We're close knit in that you have to be close to people to steal from them Blink

What can I say, I find that someone vandalising an actual work of art related for and paid for by the developers of this game is more a reason to ban someone that someone asking someone to sing some songs (and since it's an actual real world crime, doe in fact violate the EULA/TOS). If you want to call that hypocrisy, that's your prerogative.

Yeah, wanting someone to be held accountable for an actual crime is definitely hypocrisy.

Sad

So the perp was not entirely clueless or maybe just lucky.

I'm fairly sure that's because Imgur automatically resizes and stuff... It doesn't just make a copy but saves its own version of the image.

Also, what's with people claiming this is just spaceship shenanigans? If i come over and blow up your kitchen because of a difference we have in EVE, does that mean i go free 'because it's just because of a game'?

Actually damaging something in RL, whether it's just a scratch or dropping a nuke on it, is a crime in any country.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Defacing property is so much more serious than attempting to end someone's life in the world of goons? You do know that Mittens would have been looking at jail time if CCP or what's his name had pressed charges, right?

Because CCP threw wide the gates to this sort of thing not coming down like a tone of bricks on mittens. After all, if doing power points to manipulate someone into taking their own life isn't a serious crime, vandalism is hardly worth talking about.
