Removal of the scratches by any means is always going to show past evidence through discoloration, distortion of texture, etc.

Can you not figure this out with your own brain ?

Have you yet tried to remove weather-prove stickers? The acids and solutions for that are nasty. Blink And if this aluminum is so easily scratched, it wouldn't look well after such a treatment either.

Something else? Roll

There is no metal in existence that cannot be scratched by something..................

But there are metals in existence and which are not all that expensive that cannot be scratched that easily and profoundly. I would have expected that CCP pays at least enough money to ensure at least this much for a monument.

But then again it also shows how weak the community in fact is. Blink

A sticker is easily scraped off with a credit card and the residue is easily removed with acetone or lighter fluid

Scratching it with an x-acto knife or whatever is not "almost permanent" just "permanent"

CCP Falcon posted about this on Page 2 confirming

Please don't put words in my mouth, I didn't confirm that it was him.

What I can confirm is that the monument has indeed been vandalized, and we're looking into what action we can take, once we confirm who is responsible.

Smile

Is it something that can be / will be repaired?

Yeah, but we'll have to replace the plate that the name is on, most likely.

We're looking into it at present, more details when I have them Smile

I posted this in another thread about this issue but since this one has more discussion here goes :

Gevlon doesn't have a twitter account. He has historically only ever posted on his Blog, and avoided twitter and tweetfleet altogether. An account was setup TODAY to post this image. There is no evidence that this was done by Gevlon, nor is there likely to be anything that ties him to this crime (even if CCP manage to get IPs or whatever out of Twitter I doubt they will be able to be tied to a specific phone, as the contract details will reside with foreign corporations who will likely not give a **** about some statue getting scratched up in Iceland).

The odds of this being someone trying to get Gevlon into trouble are astronomically higher than the man himself doing the deed. And this from one of the GRR goonies that he so loves to hate.

It must have been Gevlon Goblin. After all, the tweeter's new account name is the "The_Real_Gevlon". There's no way this was a setup Roll.

Go Troll somewhere else in some other thread. You impress nobody.

ed: Apparently the sticker came off no problem, yet the scratch will cost an entire replacement section.

Geez, you are so right about that sticker being just as bad Roll

Hmm, to be honest, I'm not quite sure what to make of this given the name that was defaced in this instance.

Like most, my reaction is disappointment that something built by CCP has been defaced by what most of us would see as an immature and irresponsible act.

On the other hand, when it's Xenuria's name, that adds a layer of complexity to the situation that doesn't make it as simple as "the guy who did this is an [whatever expletive you like]".

If I had been the victim of one of the worst forms of an abhorrent crime in real life, I'm not sure how I would feel having my name (even a gaming name), on anything, alongside someone who has a reputation in the community for connection with those things (rightly or wrongly).

I don't personally know Xenuria from anyone else and have had no dealings with him one way or the other. However, knowing the reputation attached to that name, I can potentially be sympathetic to the person who did this, depending on the actual reason why.

It's a terrible outcome either way. As a large gaming community, not everyone in it is going to be an upstanding, ethical and honorable person irl. For the most part, we don't have any knowledge of other players outside the game, so have no reason to suspect anything in relation to anyone. Not as simple here though.

When the fatbee sticker went up it was well known beforehand that it would probably be a matter of hours before it was removed with no indication of it ever having been there. The person who put it up did it all in good fun.

Word is they had to clean the monument before the reveal because some local with a can of spray paint had tagged it. That's just the reality of it being located in Reykjavic, graffiti capital of the world.

This is just despicable.

It's rather unlikely they'll find out who did it, and even if they do they're probably beyond the reach of Icelandic law. Nobody's going to extradite for minor vandalism. The best it seems that can be done is to repair the monument and reiterate that such behavior is unacceptable.

Between Iceland and the European Union there is an agreement on legal and administrative cooperation. So if the IP or whatever can be identified from that account belongs to a European then I am positive that vandalism is a crime in all european countries as well.

No see I can't get behind this sort of attitude at all. For one, if the guy was/is a pedophile its not for you and I to punish him for it. Had he actually committed any crimes he would have been arrested and tried for those crimes and been given an actual criminal punishment for them. As is all you have right now are some silly rumors floating around on the internet.

Now don't get me wrong, the guy is a TOTAL sleazeball and I want nothing at all to do with him. But **** this attitude of "oh hey someone on the internet said hes a pedo that must be true".

Also "rightly or wrongly"? So even being accused of a crime now means you are tarred with that brush forever in your eyes? Nice to know.

Frankly, on a personal note, I find this absolutely disgusting and completely detrimental to the EVE Community's close knit spirit.

We'll have more information tomorrow afternoon/evening regarding this.

Really sorry that this has happened guys Sad

It is sad that some members of the eve community would sink as low as to vandalise this monument because of some petty reason.

I would support a ban and also possibly criminal charges if that is possible as vandalism is a lowly and pathetic act which deserves punishment.
