CCP - Selectable Damage Types for Amarr pretty please

Hey all,

Now maybe I am completely wrong and If I am, I am sure that the good people of Eve will correct me in a rather swift manner but as it currently stands, Amarr ships are the only race that can not select from all the available damage types.

Is this by design, some kind of Eve Lore or is it that the Dev's just forgot :)

Is there any chance at all that perhaps whilst you, CCP are in the mood to fix those little things, you can gave Amarr ship new crystals so we can deal all damage types.

Not only will this help in regards to missions but also in PvP as I suspect many people don't use Amarr ship because you are stuck with Thermal / EM damage.

Crystals with different damage types would imbalance them, imo. T1 crystals last forever, T2/Faction crystals still last longer for the investment than typical ammo, take up less cargo, and near-instant ammo switching. All that is worth the trade-off of only doing EM/Thermal damage.

Lasers are super heated (thermal) beams of light (electromagnetic) and therefor do thermal and em

kinetic implies mass - lasers have no real mass to speak of

explosive implies a chemical reaction - again not something lasers do

yeah, devs, for the curious amarr

strip them of laser bonuses and issue RAIL guns to them. Let them be EoM.

He who laughs last is Caldari.

Oh, btw, replace half of their fleet with missile boats. Because they totally want to switch damage type.

Amarr get to choose damage types exactly as much as Gallente and Caldari do. All these three races have their turrets locked into two damage types, but have other weaponry that varies damage types. Hybrids are locked into Kin/Therm, but Gallente have drones and Caldari have missiles for choosable damage types.

The Amarr have either one (depending on the ship). The Arbitrator and its T2 variants get very nice drone bonuses (arguably making the Arbitrator sometimes a better drone boat than the Vexor, which is just weird), while some ships like the Malediction, Vengeance, Heretic, Sacrilege, etc focus on short range missiles.

It's really the Minmatar ships that have the freedom to vary damages as they want on the autocannons, but even so it's "impure", usually dealing 3 damage types in weird percentages (and no primarily Kinetic damage type). Minmatar also have limited ability with missiles and drones as well, supporting the whole "flexible" archetype.

Also as was mentioned above me, it makes no sense for lasers to do anything but EM and Thermal. At all.

if u fly the sacriledge or inquistor/purifier u can use missiles to do any damage type

if you can also use drones to do any damage type.

also
hybrids are restricted to kinetic & thermal.

AND most importantly

Most ahacs fleets use zealots primarily
Most Armor tanked bs fleets are geddons and abaddons

Most shiny incursion fleets have sansha nightmares & navy geddons & even a few abaddons in them

all of which use em/thermal weapons

Everytime you buy something that says "made in china" you are helping the rising unemployment in your own country unless you are from china, Buy locally produced goods and help create more jobs.

I am going to go out on a limb and say no on this, Lasers already have the best coverage in the game this should be thier drawback.

This is by design. Damage types were originally racial (with Caldari getting to choose), but CCP backed down a bit with the release of T2 ammo.

I personally think it adds a bit of flavor to the game. I'd hate to see all races use all damage types equally well.

CCP already did that with the Khanid ships, except they are restricted to close range missiles What?

besides the obvious logic of pure holy light of the divine empire doing pesky kinetic damage (TECHNICALLY phtons DO have amss, so a concentrated beam within the visible light spectrum would have a MINISCULE kinetic hit), let me first point out your first flaw:

you suggested that lasers are not already the most divine god-moding weapon in the game, we dont even require ammo, our weapons are powered by the holy energies of our divine wrath. so NO, we do NOT need other damage types, we do just fine smiting our enemies with the purest of damage types.

I'd agree with the limitations of lasers damage type. It just makes good sense.

But, lasers should track like nobody's business. Really, they could be a small-computer controlled rotating half-ball type thing...instant hits which they do now (speed of light). I'd think they'd be way faster to track and fire then auto-cannons easily. Auto cannon have long-ish metal barrels and a belt of ammo causing some kind of movement limitation.

To the OP:

The Amarr do have the ability to do all the damage types. Its called missles and drones.

And I seem to remember somewhere that alot of the tech II ships for the amarr are missile boats, oh, the ones from Khanid Innovations. Gotta love the Khanid, huh?

Nah - they shouldn't have selectable damage types, but need a buff in overall damage to compensate for the fact they can't change it.
Doing Kinetic and Exp damage just doesn't make sense for lasers, but they need an overall damage buff in return.

On a side note, projectiles should be restricted to do only Kin/Exp. If there's any turret type that should be able to do all types, it should be missiles and hybrids - missiles use an engine to deliver a warhead, hybrids use a cap-consuming electromagnetic system to do so.

Given that even after the buff, comparable hybrid and projectile ammo take the same volume, whereas projectiles are supposed to carry the propellant whereas hybrid charges don't, projetiles ammo overall dps should be nerfed.

(Now that is all tech-talk roleplay mumbo-jumbo - projectiles just should be nerfed on multiple levels purely for gameplay and balance reasons).

Gallente weapons are Kin/ Therm exclusive

I don't have an issue with my EM/Therm but I do have issue with 98% resist Vaga and such. They are supposed to be speed tanking me and they get to do that in addition to thier redonculous resists.

Lasers should do pure EM in fact, any thermal effects are a byproduct of EM radiation impacting matter.
