Just use EVEMON. There's no need to waste money and effort on something when there's a free resource that does it better.

Same could have been said for ISIS I suppose....

I guess I really don't want to have to download third-party software when this great feature could be implemented in the game. It's been out for over a decade now and they've only recently implemented ISIS. So why stop there?

Exactly. Third-party stuff will always be outdated.



On the contrary; I think developing an ISIS-like version would overcome those problems (scale, relation to one another, etc.)

Ya just use the out of game 3rd party app guys. No reason to try an make EVE itself a little more polished!.

They should add a skill tree.
They should add an in game Killboard
They should add an in game fitting simulator.

Because there is no reason that these things can be available outside of the game from 3rd parties, and not inside the game, and there is no reason that they should be the only options available.

Perhaps an ISIS-like feature limited to each career path (exploration, salvaging, etc) could prove useful?

I think they could add a kind of dust like skill tree (if you have not played dust, the skill path is set in a way so you can see what skills build off eachother, and what you need to train to get to the next thing. That might be a nifty thing in eve.

Actually you should use EFT. Right click, change affecting skill level, its pretty good. ISIS mastery levels are very simplistic and gloss over the differences between ships and completely ignore the current fitting meta.



Agreed, aside from the one very good (and previously mentioned) reason of not duplicating effort and wasting dev time. It would really be great if all that functionality was in game, but it isn't, and I'd personally much rather see an industry UI facelift than fix something that is very well handled by those apps.

Right and there is 5 tiers of skills. L1 > L5. Some skills require support skills from other skill trees, but so do Pirate Faction ships (included in ISIS). Heck I can't fly a Zealot just because I trained Amarr Crusier to 5 I still need 2-3 additional sub skills in order to fly it...same with HICs, Recons, and T3's.

The idea behind ISIS and I suppose this is to put all the data in a presentable manner so you can easily navigate and determine what skills you need to train. Having say Mechanic divided from skill L1 > Skill L5 (kinda like Frigate > BS for ISIS Comparison) with inherent mechanic skills (Jury Rigging, Hull Upgrades, Capital Armor Reps, Ship construction etc) into groups allows people to quickly find and identify skills. Which is the whole point.

And some skills like Salvaging need Mechanics and a Secondary Skill and this can be easily displayed in the Salvaging Skill book display in "ISIS" which would be under Mechanic L3 and finding it would be like this.

Click [NAME] > Click Mechanic Heading, Scroll to L3 Skills> Locate Salvaging < Check Requirements..

Compared to checking a Zealot.

Click ISIS > Select Amarr, Scroll to Cruisers > Locate HAC < Check Requirements

It is very easily applied to Skills and Items as well. It just requires a bit of effort from CCP.

I suppose it could work for individual skills, but doesn't the overarching perspective get a bit lost then? If the idea is to provide an idea of where that skill fits into the whole puzzle that is the EVE skill system, I think you need more than that.

It sounds a bit like you're describing a standard directory-tree like structure, but tbh, that's already kind of how the market works. It seems a bit redundant to do that in the ISIS as well. I got the impression that the OP wants more what the skill explorer and prereq trees in EVEMon have to offer, which requires something a bit more complicated.
