The State of War

For me Eve had recently been lacking, something. I had been logging in rarely, and doing very little when I did. So I decided to do something unique and special. Something involved with the community that I could get a sense of achievement from.

So I decided to start writing a diary that would eventually become a blog. I made a list of 10 people I had a good reason to kill and added them to my watch-list. They come from various different backgrounds and call various different kinds of space home. One of them lives in WH space. I would spend a few days info gathering, and then I would pick a first target and start trying to kill them and I would document everything I do. Eve has always been about having the enthusiasm and attitude to get stuff done, and this embodied what I wanted to do. It's been three days so far.

The first day, I added all 10 to my watch list. None were online but I started info gathering to make sure they were still active. Seems like they all were. Good. I ran a locator agent on each of them and documented their locations that day. If they moved later I could then be certain they were active. I had an idea to make a desktop application that would track when they logged in and would log their average active times. As it turns out the API for watch-lists isn't that powerful. Shame. I checked killboards to get an idea of local haunts and ships they were likely to be flying and then had to log off for the day.

Next day, more of the same. No one logged on.

Today, a war dec became active on our corp. I am in a corp with people who are generally the more caring type of bears. Two of the war targets are online, so I locate them and head to their location alone. I watch them with an alt (didn't want them to know I was hunting them until they were away from the station) for an hour but they're not undocking. I open a mail to one and eventually find out they are indeed active, just not undocking. So I try a more direct approach. I sit outside the station for another hour smack talking to see if that will get them out. Apparently not. 2 vs 1, and they're not undocking. One of them just logged off. One of my 10 targets logged in today, for two minutes. Two minutes.

I think this really is a good representation of the State of War in Eve. It's fairly easy to find fights with big groups of faceless ships, but if you want to settle a vendetta... well good luck. Either way, my hunt continues.

Edit 26/10/2013:

I've realised that to catch and kill a few of my targets I am going to need to take out war decs on their alliances. Which is going to be hugely costly. I am looking for sponsors, who will eventually appear (if they wish) on my site and in my blog. Any contributions are welcome.

I know what you mean, the gold pod ganklist is awfully difficult to actually hit anybody on. Also Ramona, if you ruin my 2222 moment the deal is off.

To their credit. Three jumped me maybe an hour after I wrote this post. The third one got away. Shame really, two Caracals don't make for a shiny looking killboard but I guess 1 vs 3 isn't too bad killmails aside.

Probably not. One or two of them might have reason to suspect but the vast majority of them probably don't use the forums at all. I wouldn't be posting if I thought it was going to make my own life more difficult. Trying to catch specific players is difficult enough as it is.

I suggest you find likely minded guys and not sit in a corp full of bears. You can always make wardecs personal, one insult here, another there and we are where we want to be. Should boost your eve experience by quite a bit. Any links to blogs where one can read about your vendetta and how it continues or will you update this thread ? (i still got some popcorn and booze)

I've been in a lot of PvP corps/alliances in my time since 2009 (continuous sub). Small gangs and blobs, sov space, npc null, lowsec, highsec. Sov owners, war deccers, gate campers, cap producers, suicide gankers, hot droppers, you name it (never a WH dweller though). I have a fair amount of experience in PvP, FCed for a good few of my corps/alliances. Small gang and solo are my preferred PvP style. The current corp I am in is the exception to the rule, and I will be staying with these carebears (I have grown to like them) until I am forced to join an inactive friends' corp for purposes of war deccing some of my targets. I will probably update this thread for changes without giving much detail, and once the ordeal is largely over I will put my own website up for my blog, which will include all the nitty gritty.

You can stay tuned in this thread for small updates and hopefully once I have some kind of conclusion I will put up the web page.

This isn't about getting fights. If I wanted fights I would move out to NPC null again or jump into a FW zone as you say. This is about finding out whether it's even possible to settle personal vendettas. Personal battles as it were. Not just destroying faceless ships that mean nothing to me.
