When a vet backer contacted me on SC forum, he told me he could help me getting Lifetime Insurance on any ship I wanted. I wasn't expecting that much, but was still interested. It sounded simple. I gift him any ship or package, and since he's an original backer, that ship - or package - get the lifetime insurance perk, so he then gift it back to me.

Now here's the catch: would you thrust someone on the internet you never met, giving him a virtual good that has a value of 65$? (Or more?). People in EVE scam each other for a lot less than that.

Well, I did, expecting that PERHAPS I would never receive anything back.

10 min later, I received a gift, with my new liftetime insured Aurora 300i.

I would had never belived this in EVE... Now, I have the undeniable proof that the SC community is on the right path. Someone I don't know just took 20 min of his time, handle my 65$ package back to me, for my own benefit, without asking anything. I'm shocked...

Well, considering that each ship comes with a unique ID, according to the FAQ, it is easily tracked and I doubt the inane Star Citizen community would be fine with "meta-game" thefts and I think it is entirely plausible that the guy would find himself in a bottomless pond of **** that he will drown in.

The lifetime insurance isn't all that special, as they mentioned that it only covers the ship itself and none of the fancier weapons, thrusters, engines, powerplants or mods it may have, so by losing the ship, one can potentially end up losing a lot of money just the same.

It only covers the hull and it's standard load it comes with, but there's also conditions that apply. For instance If you're ship is lost outside of UEE space, insurance doesn't cover it. The same if you're loss was a result of conducting illegal activities (ie. piracy, smuggling, ect.).

Obviously Chris Roberts doesn't wants to pay royalties to CCP for using their masterful scheme in which criminals shot by the police were reimbursed of their losses. Cunning guy, he should be developing games or something. Cool

People trade their non-LTI packages for LTI packages via veteran backers - just like I did with 3 ships. After EVE it was amazing experience - to trust complete strangers with hundreds $$$ worth ships and receive them back with higher value.

Playing Eve for years and years rewires your brain to not trust complete strangers. Roll

Yup, it's a more realistic way to insure things, as insurance companies would put a lot of conditions to cover their asses......Gives you a sense that you really are on your own once outside UEE protected space or doing illegal activities, i like it.

This whole EVE vs SC "competition" highlighted obvious problem: for CCP it's easier to find new subscribers for existing content and sell PLEXes to "hardcore PvPers" rather than develop new PvE/RP/interesting content for existing players.

Why bother with actual content expansions when you can simply intensify PvP to sell more PLEXes?

I hope StarCitizen devs won't get this "celebrity complex" when existing clients aren't interesting for devs and will continue to listen to players' ideas like it happened in recent hangar patch: players asked to add hairs to protagonist - CIG delivered ("Freelancer" suit has hairs now).

Well, he part with "finding new subscribers" is a moot one. After being in the market for 10 years, likely many potential players already tested EVE, and in case they didn't liked in the last 10 years, it's not as if ti is becoming any different nor doing things appealing to newcomers. I can't see a new or potential player joining EVE because of the Hallelujah Plan as it just drafts another way to do something the players already can do in EVE -building ephemeral space empires which then crumble into nothingness.

What game are the goons not in? I have to give them props for their dedication however.

Funny thread to read too.

Isn't it hard to have a "vs" thread when one thing exists and has for years and the other doesn't and may never in any meaningful way?

It's like comparing the car I have in my driveway vs the one I dream about in my sleep.

The one in my dreams is much nicer by the way, but that's selective memory. When I'm actually in it, in my dream, I'm sure there is some crazy feature like my legs don't work and I'm not wearing any clothes. Not that that is a bad thing. But I digress.

Do people like Hornets? Apparently so, as Star Citizen has reached 25 million less than 6 days after reaching 24 million.

And the Hornet sale hasn't ended yet, as it was extended to November 4th so US public employees can take the deal once they are paid after the lockout.

It makes my head spin to think about the kind of passion and money this game is gathering compared to EVE.

Quo vadis, EVE Online?

All the more reason to be cautious to be fair, Star Citizen is pulling in ridiculous amounts of dough, but as more money pours in, expectations continues to skyrocket and in the end, those expectations will simply be impossible to appease. For now, Chris Roberts seems to think he can handle it but that can change.

To be honest, I am thinking that the LTI grey market has something to do with the soaring pledging. So far Chris Roberts already is stating that further pledging will not mean "feature creeping" because they're still within the post-launch development plans, that is, they will just make things a bit sooner and faster THX to additional funding, but only after launch.

That's a sensible answer, and if the LTI gray market is behind the pledging, that won't hurt SC before the LTI promotion ends (and never too soon, it's kind of ludicrous what's going on with it).

So far every crowd-funding game has had ridiculous expectations with a fraction of the funds to work with. If peoples expectations really skyrocket, I would expect that at this point people would want to be leaping through their monitors into the game upon release. From what I have seen however, it's more along the lines that as CIG has reached the funds needed to make the AAA quality game they are promising, and they are more likely to be capable of meeting the expectations of their audience which expects a AAA quality game.

I have a feeling people will still turn to EVE for their griefer fix. I'm happy for SC, for committing to game mechanics that make it different from EVE. I'm also pleased that by doing so and being softcore, SC will not be a direct competitor with EVE; between the two games, I think EVE has an advantage in being more... Elite. EVE has free-to-play functionality too, and while free-to-play is relatively difficult to attain compared to the default free-to-play nature of SC, EVE's player culture is such that complaining about the challenge of obtaining PLEX through gameplay is seen as an admission of failure. Conversely, achieving free-to-play proficiency in EVE will mean more than ever.

For the record, I haven't installed SC. I'm letting everyone else be excited about SC, in hopes that it will motivate improvements in EVE. I think EVE still has the potential to be more than SC, even after SC had the advantage of sizing up the competition first.

I almost hate to say this, but the private server option is something I sometimes use Sisi for, and seeing it promoted as a mainstream function of the game makes me realize that something similar in EVE would detract from the pulse of Tranquility.

While I'm on the topic, and so you know where my head is, I just want them to open the door.

I see resentment coming. with all the incentives of SC geared toward being first, I think SC will be more guilty of gerontocracy than EVE. It also strikes me as hype, considering 'earlybird factor' is most of their appeal right now. you have to admit, when you compare SC's start to EVE's, the kickstarter funding model is a causative factor in early-backer benefits that will not be available to latecomers, and if EVE's player culture is a predictor of an outcome, those advantages will be less well-received over time. It's not a big gripe right now, but it's still early and the windows for those benefits have only recently closed. Consider how strongly people feel about exclusive items in EVE. In SC's case, it's things like forever-reimbursed ships. They've made a statement to assure players there isn't a significant, practical in-game advantage of having a permanently reimbursed ship, but how players perceive it is outside their control. The better option would be leave those things open at a higher premium. "no, never" kinda sucks, and goes against the goal of raising money, and the greater theme of SC that seems to be "we're doing it better than EVE the other space MMOs."

Star Citizen really is a one of a kind, vision.

This has been more about selling one persons vision for a game they would like to play than it has been about the game its self.

It is the first game where I have ever thought, well I will need a new computer just for that, No Worries.
$500 for a HOTAS and another $500 for Pedals, sounds good.
I might want 3 bigger monitors and an TrackIR, awesome.

Will it compete with EvE, yes/no it is similar as it is a space game but it will more pull on the strings of everyone who played Wing Commander, Freelancer or even Elite.

And the graphics so far are just out of this world and make EvE look like an old VGA game by comparison.Lol

As to the ships we can buy now, they are apparently a small amount compared to what will be available at launch, especially the capitals.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!
