Correct. Shouldn't play a game which charge $200/year without providing new content for years: the only changes in my gameplay during last 2 years were OGB nerf + drone-eating AI. I'm sure with PvP-focused "expansions" situation won't change in 2014 (and maybe in 2015) so switch to other 5 upcoming sandbox games isn't really a question.

Just it's a bit frustrating to abandon "investments" I've made into EVE while there were no other alternatives + to see how CCP is wasting huge potential while they still have money for actual expansions instead of PvP content which failed to attract more subscribers during last 4 years.

That is hardly evil to EVE players. It is a absurdly good deal that just gets more and more ridiculous depending on long you have been playing EVE (in my case, ten years) and you get that for only $60. However, it is an absolutely abhorrent thing to do to any one who has already pledged to Star Citizen.

That would be a 1st anniversary offer, obviously. And if you think of it, there are not that many players who've been playing EVE for 10 years.

I can't agree with you more. I refuse to spend a dime on any game pre-release these days. Sure Star Citizen looks "cool" but no one actually knows how the end product will feel/play. As for all the limited edition ships and other nonsense im sure if you really want to fly one that badly just start you own private server and dev hack them into your hanger.

Got nothing to do with it. It is still trampling on a lot of people.

What makes me glad though is that I know this to be a fake offer but what makes me even happier is that Chris Roberts isn't as stupid to make this kind of offer to anyone.

I like the PVP/PVE "slider" SC will have ! Smile

So funny to see some people (obvious Eve players) on SC forums crying about it!

EVE players would know buttons-switches-sliders won't save from gankers even in hi-sec. I'm sure this thing is there just to pacify PvE players - who are the majority of gamers (and backers).

my prediction will be that star citicen will deliver on all levels and this will but hurt EVE very badly. specialy the cockpit view with full occulus support. Your buddys helping you in your ship manning the turrrets. The way how pvp is setup seemlesly intregrated and no fecking blob warfare.. This game is doing things right..

It's gonna be like MWO in the sense that it's an MMO

We already know the game is instanced, so EVE already has the game beat on scale.

I also personally feel EVE is much more stylish.

All in all, we've seen this time and time before. Devs who make grand promises and squabble on delivering them and blame "time" and "misinterpretations of what they really promised".

Honestly, when the game comes out and it's not even a quarter of what it promised to be, don't act like you were ******* jipped. Because anyone who's familiar with the game industry should come to recognize these things.

EVE has instances (grids) as well. Also tidi on top of that. Surely people may join instances in EVE in droves (actual limit is around 250 pilots per system before tidi) - but it will be the same for Star Citizen couple years later when the code will be optimized and servers will be much more powerful than today.

Lots of praise there, for a game that is not even a game yet. And do be careful, praising the name of some developer can end in disappointment.

SC is playable 1.5 years prior to release: present ships are permanent.

I had a look at SC, this evening.

EVE is going to ROFLstomp that game. It's not even going to compare.

Doubtful SC will do anything to EVE or vice versa, especially BECAUSE they do not compare... I just hope EVE will survive the mass Goon-situs, looking at how the forums over there are already crawling with them. Blink

After seeing SC promo vids, I could say a few things:
EVE ships are way better looking than SC's. Even if SC's are visually customisable. Which is a dream. But the cockpit view looks better in Valkyrie. More futuristic and exotic.
SC won't be able to hold huge online battles like EVE. Not that I ever participated in one, but meh. And they're too laggy.
EVE's mythology is tremendously rich, only compared to Star Wars. SC's is about to be written.

If this is Robert's retirement plan, I think he is going to do the best he can to keep this baby alive for many years to come, and for generations to enjoy.

That's what we all hope for... then again, Elite and the Wing Commander series have been the first games that really introduced me to PC gaming back in the day, and if Roberts can make anything remotely as revolutionary as WC3 was then, the game will not even need to convert any players from other MMOs to become a huge success.

Also, SC is a completely different game: It's centered around the personal adventure... highly detailed, immersive ships and environments, and a (already) pretty rich story and lore, that are actually presented IN GAME.

The biggest battle ever in EVE was attended by a peak of 13% of the server population during the hours it went on. That's even less percentage than the people who voted the current CSM.

No mater how epic they are, most of EVE is very literally NOT about the giant battles even when they happen once in a blue moon.

EVE's tremendously rich lore is mostly irrelevant to gameplay and to the nigh null immersion. Roll

Just recently, beta-veteran Svetlana Scarlet wrote an article on how NPCs and lore are being removed from relevance and how that is a losing deal to some players. You can read it here: http://themittani.com/features/i-dont-want-be-demigod

Yup, I can subscribe to that view... what's especially jarring there: CCP continues to remove the lore relevance from the game (destroying COs in high sec without CONCORD persecution!?) on one hand, and keeps promoting it on the other... I mean, who needs OTHER games, and even a TV show about EVE lore when, it has almost nothing to with the actual game? I don't need to play (and pay) the game for that. Same goes, and I'll try to now digress too much, for WIS... I don't need a separate game for that (like CCP Seagull mused).

Sacrificing everything that makes the game interesting presentation wise on the altar of "the sandbox"... I certainly never asked for that... my characters never have been almighty genocidal psychopaths. Roll

...but yea ...maybe the "future EVE" just isn't for me anymore. When looking at SC and Elite Dangerous, however, I can see many things I wished CCP would have done years ago.
