There was something that completely baffled me in my previous role which was the relationship between CCP and EON magazine. For those that don’t know, the magazine is published and produced in London and shipped all over the world for an astronomical fee. Some may argue that this due to no external adverts, such as computer companies, being allowed to advertise therefore no extra income can come from that. That’s fair enough, it’s apparently what you players wanted – or so I was told.

The main thing that baffles me is that CCP have a perfectly good publishing company in Atlanta – where the EVE store is located – called White Wolf Publishing. They have the contract to produce merchandise for CCP’s other game, World of Darkness, so the relationship is already there. So why not give them the contract for EON magazine?

I can see many advantages to this.


No more astronomical postage fees as most of the subscriber base is America, after all it’s the biggest country. Don’t have to be a genius to work that one out.

In direct contact with CCP’s store (no time difference issues) for updates & content.

Communication again in terms of stock, sales etc…

More favourable exchange rate for players outside of the USA to purchase.

The price for the magazine is far too high at $14.95. Don’t get me started on the price of the posters.

Time delay for shipping greatly reduced.


If you can make the magazine cheaper, the more sales you will attract as I know the price has put off potential buyers having had many a discussion at fanfest. The more magazines you sell, the greater the chance of gamers who don’t play the game taking an interest which will lead to more subscriptions. Also, push on with digital subscription as I suspect over 75% of us either have a tablet, a laptop, a smartphone or all three.

I suppose the disadvantage may be that White Wolf Publishing may be very familiar with World of Darkness and not EVE Online but I can say that the current producers of the magazine aren’t familiar with the game at all. The editor is a miner who never logs on, the designer plays WOW and the Publishing Director doesn’t even have an account!

Last time I looked it was not. Europe > America, especially if you include russia.

Besides ordering anything from the eve store costs ALOT, its like they dip in in gold and ship it through viking raiders or something.

The magazine is even quite resonably prices compared to the shipping costs of other items. (prolly because they are based in the UK)

The reason why it's published in London is because that is where MMM Publishing is based. EON is their baby :D

and that relates to the eve player base how?, anyway with both military spending and prisoners as % of population, USA is #1

They should also sell 'Fearless". If we drop mumble about MT content in that leaked pdf, magazine itself is pretty intresting

Well for what its worth at 50+ dollars for a subscription to a gaming magazine where you only get 4 magazines a year... its hard to justify to the accountant and by accountant I mean wife. Its cool and I would love to have it buts its kind of like a lap dance... I gotta a couple of twenties with me, so its either two drinks or a 10 minute lap dance.. sometimes I can't resist and I go for it, but usually I use the money on the cocktails to get more bang for that buck.

And that has influence on the subscriber base from there and the distances involved... how?

OP: I'm sure all that will benefit the US player somewhat, but not by as much as you'd think. And as the US slice of the playerbase isn't THAT large, sorry lad.

i can see the rage on forums already: 'Now you expect us to buy a magazine just to get a ring which you cant even see on the avatar picture. this is outrageous. yadayada'
